I go through the same process when I shoot review models. I have a Nikon D70 so bad pictures are almost always caused by the photographer. It is interesting how the background can alter the subject. For this reason, I enjoy building the model and writing the review but hate photographing it. By the way, bare metal finishes really pop against a blue background.

This looks awesome. I really like the shot taken on the sectional map. I may have to borrow that for a review. The Mig 15 really looks like a fighter to me. All business without the frills. Typically Russian. Thanks for sharing. Chris

I'm with you on difficulty level of the LTD kits. I bought their IAR 80 kit at Nationals many years ago and it was a tough build as well. In the end it was a satisfying result just like this. Very nice results on a tough kit. Chris

Looks good. I've always liked that SEA camo. makes any subject look ready for combat. This sure looks like a big step up from old revell kit I built when I was a kid. Nice work. Thanks for posting it. Chris

How do you blend the colors into each other? Thats where I lose it on figures.

Very impressive. This looks like one of those grind your way through it kits but you feels great when your done because you know what it took to get there. Really enjoying the updates. On another topic what kind of camera are you using? Its my least favorite part of doing reviews. Chris

What kind of paint are you using on the face? Is the base different from the shading? Chris

Looking good thus far. I finished the Firefly kit they produced a while back and I was impressed by the quality of the resin cockpit parts. I've wanted to built this kit as well and now have a good excuse to find one. Keep the posts coming. Chris

Very well done. The weathering is spot on. I'm with the others on the extensive stenciling, proof that taking your time makes all the differance. You've done a classic fighter justice. Thanks for posting it. Chris

I can go both ways on PE parts. For things like screens, seat belts and seats they offer a part you just can't mold in plastic. If it can be molded in plastic, provided its done right, I will us the plastic part almost always. The depth you can get in plastic just cant be matched by PE. Case in point, the Ferrari F-1 race car I built (just posted on the home page under Chris Smith,) came with a beautiful sheet of PE parts. In the end, I used about half of what was in the sheet. The quality of the plastic molds is so good these days, that with the exception of very small scales, PE is seldom needed or noticed when used. Now resin sets on the other hand......

For those of us not able go to NATS, how about a picture of this project?

I say go with what motivates you. I mainly build aircraft too but lately find myself motivated toward F-1 racing cars. I've really got to be into the project to finish it. As for selling your other kits, I'd say wait. Doing something outside the norm is just what you need to push through a rough spot on your normal projects.

Not bad for the money. Looks like a Hornet when it done and best of all in the scale thats easy on aging eyes. Decals gave some silvering issues gloss coat real good. Thought the landing gear was the best part of the model.

Nice job on a really cool aircraft. I like the camo did you hand paint it? Did one of these a few years back, it was a two seater in Polish markings. The camo pattern is so tight its almost imposible to mask and airbrush. Looks like the canopy could have used a coat of future to clear it up. I just started using it for that and it really does work. Great job. Thanks for sharing it. Chris

Very nice build. I've had a similar experience with this company. I built the Macci 2002 and at first thought it was toy like with the working parts and the like. But it turned out real nice and I also found the decals to be excellant quality. The only thing I did have an issue with was getting the parts to stick together. What type of glue did you use? I did not use the screw plugs either. Filled the holes with a lot of putty! Again great job. Chris

That is awesome looking! I wish I could see it in person but Southern California is a long way from Nats. Maybe we'll meet next year in AZ. Thanks for all the updates. It a real clinic for a novice car builder like me. Chris

I'd have to send my wife to the hobby shop to buy that color! It really pops. Nice job, thanks for sharing it. Chris

Very nice. Funny car and dragster kits are harder to come by these days, at least where I live, also looked at your photo bucket page. Thanks for sharing. Chris

Sneak peek at upcoming review project
Dreamsof51 replied to Dreamsof51's topic in Cars, Trucks, & Motorcycles
Trust me, this kit is right up your alley. I just built it from the box (except harness.) The plumbing you see is in the box. After a wire and plumbing job from you, I could get in and fire the thing up! I'm going back to airplanes for while after this one. -
Hi Mike, Here is the Mig 17 kit I was talking about. as you can see it requires some surgery to fit the resin parts. The marked sections have to be removed.

This is the Fujimi 1/20 F1 Ferrari 64 1/2 driven by Prost in the 1990 Grand Prix season. It ready for decals at this point and I'm glad to get this far. I will save the details for the review but I can say this kit is awesome.

Brian, Like so many others I love airplanes and history and I just like to make things. In my former life I was a carpenter. Its also my refuge in a sometimes too crazy world. Its the one place I have some control left. Until recently, it really didn't matter if any one saw my work. Now I'm on the review team and have to put it out there for all to see. Bottom line is, it fills a creative void that I can't satisfy any other way. We're very lucky to be alive right now as the quality and variety of kits is awesome. Be on the lookout for my MIL 24D Hind and Ferrari F-1 car of Alain Prost in the 1990 season on the reviews section of this website. Oh and Welcome. Chris Smith

I love this kit. Its all there, full cockpit, folding wings and dropped flaps. Of course you've got to have the skills to turn it into the beauty that you have. Great job thanks for sharing it. Chris
