Really like the exhaust staining on the hot parts. Nothing says fighter like a Phantom. Thanks for posting it.

If you google mig 15 cockpit photo you get a link to USAF museum which has a great cockpit photo of the real thing. The picture is consistant with the color called out in the Tamiya 1/48 kit I built a while back. Its a blue/grey color but I can't recall what Tamiya called it. Hope that helps. Happy modeling! Really nice work. I built the FRS1 in Falklands markings a few years back. When I see a Harrier I think of the success they had in the Falklands War. My last airfix project was the 1/72 Marauder and 1/48 BaE Hawk. Always fun stuff. Great job keep posting.

I think the toned down look was from the work I had to do to the black undercoat. There is no overcoat. I like the metallizer finish but I don't like not being able to mask it for other colors and the handling it is tricky when you decal. I do use it from time to time for smaller parts and exhaust stains etc.. Each product has it place in our modeling toolboxes. Thanks for the post.

Is that the spray can type or airbrushed from a bottle.

Looking good so far. What scale is this? The drawings are really cool. Keep us posted.

Since I've talked about it so much I thought I should post this. Hobby Boss 1/48 scale Mirage IIIC. I started this one one-handed as I broke my wrist snowboarding and had some time to model. This is a great kit! The decals were a worry at first but went on OK. Very brittle once they dry so be careful! I was on a Mirage roll. Built this at the same time as the one above. This is the Italeri 1/48 scale Mirage 2000. Very quick build as not a lot of parts. The pilot is the only addition to this one. The good old 1/48 Monogram F105 Thunderchief. Out of the box except open gun bay. 1/72 Italeri Puma. 1/72 Merlin HC1 from Revell 1/48 Tamiya A6M5 Zero

Thanks Keith. I saw they reissued the Cessna and I could not resist since I built two or three of them when I was a kid. It was nice change of pace since I built mostly fighter planes. I wish the markings on the box top came with the kit. The late 1950s and early 60s Cessna paint jobs were really cool. When I saw the decals, I decided to do my thing. I knocked down all the rivets and closed the doors by gluing, removing the hinges and scribing the outlines and handles. On the inside I added a instrument panel decal and throttle/ mixture controls with wire and superglue knobs. This one motivated me so much, I went and bought the new Revell Piper Super Cub. The Mustang and Spitfire are both right out of the box including markings. Glad you enjoyed looking at them.

I got this kit from my father in law who works overseas. Every other trip home he brings me a kit or two that hes found in the local hobby shop in Saudi Arabia. This is a great kit when you consider how long its been around. It shows its age with raised panel lines but the detail level is just fine. As I remember it fit together very well. I'm a bit different then most in that I like to put pilots in the cockpit if they come with the kit. I gave these guys a bit more life by heating them up and turning their heads so they look they are getting waived out. I could not resist loading it up with all the ordinance provided in the kit. The decals are the usual Monogram milky glue type. I coated the paint with future and laid the decals on a bed of wet future to keep them from silvering. A lesson I learned the hard way! I think you would enjoy building it. Thanks for the comments.

I used the Alclad II system including the black undercoat. I shot this one and a Mig 19 with the black and had to sand both smooth as the base coat did not lay down. I've posted elsewhere about my Alclad woes. I've since either sprayed the finish on polished bare plastic or Tamiya spray can black. The decals are from the kit. They reminded me of the Hobby Boss decals in the Mirage IIIC kit I recently finished. They react to solvaset very well. at $25 this kit was a great buy. The only thing I would do different is mask the clear parts instead of free handing them. Thanks for the kind works.

Heres the Monogram Cessna 180 reissue. One of my P-51s This is the 1/48 scale Magister from FM models. This one took a while (if you ever done one of these kits you'll know why!) A 1/48 scale Tamiya Spitfire Monograms 1/48 A37 Dragonfly

This is the 1/48 scale F 84F from Kinetic Models. I built this one right out of the box. A really nice kit overall, good fit and great overall details.

Looking good so far. Did the same thing a while ago (building both kits at the same time,) I agree the Tamiya kit is better. I could not believe the gear door fit. More like a watch then a plastic model. The only thing I did not like was the decals. I also really liked the dropped flaps. Can`t wait to see the finished bird. As my name implies, Mustangs rule!

Recently finished the 1/48 Hobby Boss Mirage III kit. Highly recommended! I was very impressed by the whole package. The detail, fit and decals all made this one of the more enjoyable kits I`ve built in a while. The instrument panel decal is a bit comic but the rest was so good I could overlook it. I have not done any of the 1/72 scale kits. Also finished 1/32 20th Century Toys (Walmart)kits of the Macci 2002. Chunky detail and plastic that did not like glue. These are basically the kits you buy finished elsewhere, but they make you do the work. I filled alll the gaps and screw holes and with a paint job they look OK. The decals were really good. Theres some good quality kits coming out of China these days. Hard to beat the value for the money.

Thanks for the information. I would very much like to see a scan of the article. The pictures on the box are colored more to show the features of the model than the actual colors. The instructions say the body was a blended green to blue. any photo of the real car would be more than I have now.

Excellent work. I mostly do aircraft but this weekend I pulled a kit off the stack which is the MPM? Ohio George Montgomery "Multi Maverick drag racer. I was all over the internet looking for references and I`m not sure this car ever existed. Even George Montgomerys website does not mention it. Its looks like you have an interest in these type of cars. Any ideas?

I wish. I have a four year old who cant resist my latest half built kit so I'm out in the garage. I've got a home built bench and spray booth but the temperature variations really determine when I can be out there. I've modeled in the house but I don't like the fumes inside. I do most of my decal work indoors. Someday when one of my kids moves out, I''l have my own room and more time to be in there. If only we had basements in Southern California.........

I think it looks great. I so know what you mean about starting with the best of intentions and somewhere in the process you realize its not going to match the vision you had in your mind when you started. I used to hurry up and finish but now when I sense that motivation drop I put that project aside and work on something else till I get it back. if that does not happen and I start to feel the project is not worth the time to make it right, I'll dump it and move on. My modeling time is so limited, I want to enjoy what little I get. Then I go buy another FM models product and torture myself somemore! Go figure! Your model reminds me of my Air Force days in Alexandria LA with the 23rd TAC (A-10s). As part of our quarterly unit readyness exercises our base was "attacked," by aircraft from other bases. During these mock attacks we had to don chem suits and take cover. I of course could not resist staying out in the open to see who/what the attackers were. A group of A-7s did a particurilly good job of bombing us. They were so low I could see the pilots faces. Pretty exciting stuff for an airplane lover. Thanks for the memories Gil

Wow! If this is the same kit (Trumpeter 1/700 scale) I`m just finishing it up. Your cranes and cats are amazing. I drilled out the kit parts for some detail but they look nothing like those. Very cool. Like to see it when its done.
-
Wow! that looks really cool. These kits are kind of fun. I avoided biplanes for years because of the top wing install and the rigging. The Flyboys Neuport 17 fixed that. It helped to have a great movie for inspration. Even my son wanted to built a DR1 (he always likes the bad guys,) as a result of that movie.

I am in the process of painting the Monogram version of this beast. I had to hang it from the ceiling to paint it. A friend of mine gave me the kit short one bomb door nad the rear glazing because his son got it for Christmas but was overwhelmed by the size. I intend to give it back when its done mainly because I have no room for it! You`ve gone a lot farther with yours than I did. Nice work so far.

I second that. I went to there on a business trip a few years ago and made sure I had a free afternoon to see the museum. It was awesome! I was there in the summer and it was hot! That did not stop me from covering the entire place which is very large. I saw planes there I`ve never seen berfore like the B-58 Hustler and the North American F-107A. Photos of the latter came in real handy when the new kit came out a while back. The icing on the cake is the consant roar of USAF F-16s climbing out over your head from the base next door.

I`ve had that issue with both. Perhaps I`m not letting it dry long enough. As for the name the P-51 Mustang is my favorite WWII fighter and flying in one would be a dream come true for me.

Need Help...masking Residue Removal

Another trick that sometimes works is to use another piece of the same tape and try to pull up the adhesive with it. The adhesive sticks together and pulls it off. -
