  1. I also use the future underlayment idea depending on the decals. First time was under the decals on a Monogram A-37. That was in the days when the glue on those was milky white and would dry that way. Just be sure to dap surrounding area as you go. Future dries quickly leaving a ramp where its not removed. Also don't mix it with other setting solutions as I've found it clouds it up. As always, apply a smooth glossy finish before you start. The future trick won't always prevent silvering on a rough surface. Nice Nieuport 17. Thanks for sharing. Chris
  2. It was in Burbank CA two weeks ago offering rides. Just too short on cash to do it but sure would like to.
  3. I second the tutorial request on how you make the rust areas in particular. A snapshoot of one of the many project cars that will never see a fresh coat of paint again! Sad but true.
  4. I love Tamiyas work on this kit. Built one a few years back and what a pleasant experience it was! really nice job all round including the base. Thanks for sharing. Chris
  5. Now that looks more like my bench! Its a wonder anything good comes from it but it does. Check out my Ferrari 458 on the reviews. I do lose parts from time to time. Model on!
  6. Good heavens man, that work area is so clean! Wheres all the paint bottles and glues spots. I wish mine was that neat. I wonder how anything nice comes out of my workbench. Looks like a fun build so far.
  7. Tamiya makes a primer in white and grey. I've had no trouble with any kind of paint over it. It is however hit and miss as far as availability. Something to do with labeling issues. Same thing happened with thier putty. Anyway, its a great primer if you find it. Chris
  8. Nice work all around. Thanks for posting. Chris
  9. I put it both under and over. Under to give a smooth level surface and over to seal them in and level the decal with the paint. You can just overcoat as most car finishes are glossy and just fine for decals. If you want to see a sample of the under/over clear coat look up my Kurtis Kraft racer in the review section of this website. The clear coat I used was from testors. Hope that helps.
  10. This weekend I put in an hour on the Ferrari 458 from Fujimi. That build is just about to hit the review page. The other is the 1/48 P-39 from Eduard. Thats the one I try to chip away at between reviews which tend to consume most of my building time these days. Its all good! Oh wait, that was on Sunday, does that count here?
  11. Wow more great work. Aircraft and cars. Thanks for sharing. Chris
  12. Nice work. Both are well done but I especially like the Macthbox kit. You needn't go any further to prove your modeling skills than a result like that. Chris
  13. Wow! I wish I could paint figures like that. Truly amazing work. Thanks for posting them.
  14. Really nice work. I love those AM Mustangs. Your mixed colors look very good. Congrats on your graduation too. Hopefully you find a job that supports your hobby in terms of time and money. Enjoy!
  15. Thats nice. Can't wait to see it all together.
  16. Really nice job. I like your seat. I also use Tamiyas TS-8 on my Ferrari projects. Those paints go on so smooth. I haven't found anything that comes close! Chris

Always a fun build, especially from this manufacturer. I've built several and each time I'm impressed with the beauty of the lines of this aircraft. In skilled hands it was a dangerous foe right to the bitter end. I too really like the war weary look you've achieved on this one. Thanks for posting it. Chris
  18. We go to the trouble of including the hidden detail because WE know its there! I don't any other reason is needed.
  19. I've used the same process and it works quite well. The key is the black undercoat or the chrome won't pop out. Yes masking it is a hassle but well worth the effort. Chris
  20. My goal is to finish something in my own stash, if I can every stop asking for review models! Something about free stuff..is that bad? Chris
  21. Now this is some really cool work. To build something from scratch, thats modeling in its highest form. I work around a lot of tunneling machines and have often walked up on job sites thinking 'what a great diorama this would make." Then the reality of actually building it sets in and, well I've never done it yet. I agree with the others on the weathering. really great stuff. Chris
  22. I used some to make a replica of the Alamo for a table display. It cuts and carves easily but is very gritty. I did not seal it and the enamel paints I sprayed on it had no effect. It made such a mess I haven't used it since.
  23. I have to go with Spitfire. Almost to pretty to be a war machine. Looks more like what it came from a racing airplane. Perfection.
  24. I never get tired of the Mustangs lines (as evidenced by my member name.) Very nice work.
  25. Beautiful! But than how can a Ferrari be anything else. great job.
