  1. A few years ago I built a Porsche GT1 for my father-in-law as a Christmas present. Everything was going great. The paint had come out well and now it was time to decal. The GT1 I built was one of the 1998 Le Mans cars and it had graphics wrapped around the whole body. I put on the first decal and applied a similar product I think its called solvuset. I just about had a heart attack! The decal wrinkled up and I thought my project was done for. Once dry, it laid out and conformed into every crease. Turned out to be one of the best decal jobs I`ve ever done. Its hit and miss though as I have not had consistant result with it. It does fog Future. I learned that one while decaling the Revell Merlin HC1 kit. Really depends on the decals. Some are not affected by it at all.
  2. The only thing with SNJ is the care in handling once its applied and masking over it is not something I would recommend. It does look great I must admit. The Tamiya paint trick that works for me is two light coats and a heavier third. I just finished a Ferrari formula race car over polished plastic and it looks like glass, even over lots of curves. Like everything else practice, pratice, practice. What are you finishing in bare metal?
  3. Thanks for the tips. I think I can cover all that. Most all thanks for the reality check. Modeling is supposed to be a "fun" hobby after all. I`ll do my best and see what happens.
  4. I`ve built this kit twice. I love Mustangs and couldn`t wait for the AM kits. Your shading work is excellant. I saw one of these at the last Edwards AFB open house I went to. Unfortunately, I did not stay long enought to see it fly. You can see video and photos on Airshowbuzz.com. Keep up the good work!
  5. Hi everyone, I live in the southern California area and recently rejoined IPMS after having let my membership lapse. I`ve been building models since I was 12 years old and came back to it a few years ago after many years off. I`m looking forward to attending an event in Orange County in October and have decided to enter some of my work for the first time. The subject is a 1/48 scale Fairley Firefly Mk1. its the special edition kit put out a few year ago by Eagle Strike. Im building it straight out of the box since the kit came with everything in it. Question is what are the kind of things I should take into concideration as I build it if I really want to compete?
  6. Very well done. I saw the team perform at Pt Mugu NAS in thier "scooters." Its very differant now that they have the big iron F-18s. Ear plugs are essential when you go to thier shows now. Especially during the sneek attack pass from behind!
  7. Wellcome to a great hobby! I started when I was 8 years old and returned after a fifteen year break to find the kits were simply amazing. If I could give you advice in a word its patience! The difference between good and great is a little extra time. Enjoy, and I hope you have many happy building years ahead.

  9. I`ve used this product a couple of times and in my experience its alters the tone of the finish coat in a way I don`t care for. For metal finishes I polish the bare plastic and shoot right on it. I never tried the future undercoat before. The fellow using the Tamiya spray is right, they are great, quick drying and leave a perfect smooth shiny finish. Just dont shoot them over enamel unless you want a krinkle finish! Not that I know anything about how that could happen.
