WOW!!!! Both of those are stunning, well done!
-
Sorry about that, should be fixed now. (Same guy in charge of quality control in the sanding dept. is the IT guy!)

Finally got around to building this. Used some of the Lone Star Models resin and Flightline Engineering 3D stuff. Couldn't find a vac canopy set so the kit canopy it is. I know it's not accurate but I really didn't want to scratch built the Vought float....YES, I'm lazy. Besides, I have a new review kit to build so this has to get out of the way! I have to add the small recognition lights on the underside but that will have to wait. (Actually, I need to do more research as they were ordered in 42, so I'm not 100% sure this one would have them) Looking closer now, I really need to get better lighting. The bottom of the float looks bad. The sanding dept. will need a new quality control chief for sure!

WOW!!! Very nice! The only other one of these I ever saw built was by my brother back in 197?.
-
Looks great!

Same here! I put a small weight in the bomb on this one. Gonna pay the cat back for jumping on me every morning! 😁
-
Was a fun kit when I built it as a kid. canopies open & close, landing gear retracts, wings fold, prop turns and the bomb bay dooors open and let the bomb drop......JUST LIKE THE REAL THING! Kit decals were not so good so to the spares box we go.

Great job on a fun kit.

Very nice!

Thanks Ron. I understand about the shape issues but am really more concerned with the size. I can handle sanding a bit to fit but really don't want to have to grind a lot just to get it to fit. Was just wondering if there was a big size difference or even if one has really thick plastic which could pose an issue also.

What Material Do I Use To Seperate Colors On My Plane ?
VMF211 replied to schooner's topic in General Modeling
Ray, it depends on what paints your using and what kind of scheme you painting. (soft edge, hard edge etc..etc). Parafilm M works well on glossy surfaces. I use some different things. Low tack masking tape (I use drafting tape), silly putty, liquid frisket or free hand depending on what I'm doing. It all depends on whet you're comfortable with. -
I have been using Alclad Matte or flat depending on what I'm working on. Takes a little longer to dry but the results are nice.
-
Are you going to touch on painting? Masking the model & canopies for painting. How about cleaning seam lines? My own personal problem (it's mental now) How not to screw up the decals!

Nick, YES IT DID!! I think all Hawk kits did but am not 100% sure.
-
LOL! Nick, I built a few of those also and still a great kit to practice on. (My daughters first glue kit was this)
-
Ray, Get yourself an old, cheap beater kit that you can practice on. Try whatever paint you want and thin it to whatever works best for you. I can't speak for anyone but myself, however, that's what I was taught years ago when it came to airbrushing and it has worked well enough for me. I used an old Testors/Hawk SBD dauntless kit ($.99 at KB toys!)....HTH
