OK Joe, what kind of clear coat on this did you use? Are the pics just with the paint or are they polished out also? You've got a great touch with no orange peel on it, it seems. Nice job. Bill

Another "small" aircraft I see. That is looking good so far. Are you going with the white top and day glow wing tips? I was just wondering, since the 104 had colors like that and you have the paint open and such. I continue to marvel at your torrid pace on these vacuform kits and the fantastic results always. Joe, What kind of thread are you using to cut this plastic? Is it a heavier type of regular sewing thread or more of a carpet thread? I've never tried that but it would come in handy in some builds I'm sure. Do you have a lot of control with curved corners and such? Inquiring minds want to know. Bill

Gil, Great job on that Vac. Love the paint scheme. I am not much of a fan of the Revell kit decals...but. If you do decide to build this kit it goes together very well with just a few nits to pick on it. Joe, thanks for the kind words. I really like BMF; it really jumps at you when its done. It's been too long. A small update. The red is painted and I have started the BMF. So far so good. Questions, comments, funny stories all welcome. Bill I really like Bare Metal Foil.It has that sheen that is still different than any Alclad or metalizer paint. Bill

Let me start this out by saying I do not build car models. I think the last car I made was in 1974. But here I am posting this. The Hobby Town near me had a model contest on June 18. The owner had a few cases of damaged AMT Chevy "Super Shaker" Impala 409's (108 kits to be exact). The boxes were bent or a little crushed but were in good shape inside the box. He would not put them on the shelves due to the fact of their appearance. I got a call from him asking if our club would be interested in a couple of these kits at a discount. I went over and talked to him and he decided to think about having a same type model contest. The kit had to be built strictly out of the box, no additions of any kind. There were a couple of options in the kit so you could at least change it up some. He opened the contest to us at the club, to which I contacted some of the other nearby clubs to see if they would be interested in joining in. It was opened up to any customer also. All you had to do was buy the kit for $10.00 and bring it back by/on June 18. There were prizes for the top three autos. Judging was by popular vote by the stores employees. There were 75 kits sold and only 11 cars were there for the contest. Since my club helped figure out a few things for the contest I decided to get one of the kits also and try my hand at building a car model again. I spent $10.00 on the kit, $2.00 for a damaged rattle can of spray paint and then $3.95 for a bottle of touch up just in case (yes I needed it). Under $20.00 all day for a model can't be beat. So here it is, warts and all. Not out over my skis but a little out of my comfort zone. It was still a fun build plus I learned a few new things. Comments welcome. I used bare metal foil for the chrome trim. I painted the Chevy bowtie logos on the trunk and hood with clear red, blue and amber. The paint is Plum pearl by Testors with Tamiya white Primer for the interior. The purple was polished with Meguiare's plastic polish to a nice shine while getting rid of most of the orange peel. A black wash in the grill area wiped off with q-tips. I painted the steering wheel and the top of the center console a wood color to make it a little more interesting inside. Again thanks for looking. I think the Beach Boys would be OK with this one. Bill

Nice corrections on the bus to get it back to respectability. A suggestion for the ship painting for you...What if you taped the areas to be painted with clear "Scotch tape" and cut out the respective areas for painting? Just a thought. I'm really liking those two tanks you've got going also. Keep up the good work sir. Bill

I also found the decal sheet from the Revell kit if you want them too (USS America AE V-33, complete set). They look to be in pretty good shape but no guarantees.

Bob, If you want, you can have the sensor for the "C" nose from the Tamiya kit if you want it. I am going to be making the "D" version with the extra lumps on the sensor. Let me know if interested. I can send it out to you whenever you need it. Bill

Bob, I have the Tamiya "C/D" kit. I believe there are two different "dorks" for the type you wish to build. Let me check it out. You can have the extra one if you want it. I'll check tomorrow and follow up here to let you know. Bill

The cockpit is relatively small for the size of the plane. I am pretty happy on how it turned out. Thanks for the encouragement. Bill

Here are some shots of the hangar deck and base that this ship will be anchored to. I need to mount hte planes yet but this is how I am going to show this deck space. All it needs are some tow tractors , fork lifts, etc. Tie downs to complete the scene. The base is walnut that was custom made for this thing. There is a spot underneath for the wiring and battery and the switches to adjust the lighting. I want to thank my fellow club member Ed for making this for me. Hello all, After having my question answered I started on this model, the Revell F-89. Here are some pictures of the plane as it going together. I have been having a great time building these older Revell and Monogram kits lately. They go together well, the shapes are right and the detail is fantastic. The kits do not take millions of man hours to get a decent looking replica either. If you have modelers block or AMS on your current build, pull one of these off the shelf and build one OOB. JUST FOR FUN! Here are some in progress shots. More to follow soon. All comments welcome. Bill I added belts and buckles to the seats. The seats are pretty good replicas of the actual ones. I drilled out the holes on the rear foot rest. I used clear parts cement on the dials to give them the "glass" look. You get different panels for either choice of model. These are the "J" panels as that is what I am going to build. I added wiring to the back of the rear panel. you can make the "D" or "J" model and the relevant armament is in the box. Fuel/rocket pod tip tanks, fuel pod tip tanks, Falcon and Genie missiles complete your choice of weaponry. I put a lot of weight in the nose so it will sit on its landing gear. It did not need a lot of puttying, just in a few spots like the radome fuselage area the most. This might have been self inflicted. This is a large aircraft. The wings and such are just slid in for size comparison sake.
