Here was my inspiration. I think I came pretty close.

Here is the Revell SNJ-5 kit painted up in the unique paint scheme of Basic Training Unit Two, Corry Field, Pensacola Complex 1952. This scheme was one of several tested for high visual acuity in the training areas. This is also a plane that my friend flies on the airshow circuit. My family went to the Waukegon Airshow last October to see him fly. I was able to take a bunch of pictures of the plane and also was able to get my daughter a ride in it. That was something she'll never forget. The model was put together pretty much out of the box. The paint scheme is MM Auminum metalizer along with Glossy Sea Blue Enamel. The interior was painted Dark gull Grey with yellow chromate scuffs here and there. I added some seat belts to round out the interior. I used all sorts of decals to provide the correct "N" number and serial number. Decals from railroad sheets, a 1/32nd F-14 and a 1/48th F-8 were also used. This was alot of fun for me to build as I am going to be giving it to my friend as a "thank you" for taking my daughter for the ride. For more info on this aircraft and the airshow routine it performs go to: WWW.flyawarbird.com While painting the wing of it I got some blotchy areas on the blue paint and had some orange peel. I tried taking off the paint with lacquer thinner which promptly ate through the paint and also the plastic. As I completely destroyed the wing, there was little to do but start anew. I E-mailed Revell customer service and ordered a whole new 3 piece wing. The parts came within 3-4 days and I was back on track. Lesson learned. That was the only hiccup in the build. The fit of the model was fantastic and the detail is exceptional. Overall I'd rate this build as ***** stars. Hope you like it.

Rick, Here's a picture of my B-70. I painted it up and weathered it severely, like the pictures I've seen when it came back from M3 flight with large chunks of paint either peeled or burnt off. It's hard to tell that from this picture, but that's how it looks. That was another "FUN" build. This other picture shows the B-35 resribed and ready for paint. Since the picture was taken, the plane has been painted with MM Aluminum paint (not metalizer). It came out pretty good so far. I'm waiting for it to dry thoroughly now. I have started painting some of the Bomber group colors (yellow and red) on the gear doors, props and wingtips. So far so good. Update soon.

Very nice! Now give us the details...kit decals? Who' s paint etc. I keep thinking of getting one of these as it sure has beautiful lines. Also what scale is it? You did a great job and the finish looks marvelous. Bill

Here are a couple of pictures of my Hasegawa F-8E done up with the 2011 IPMS decals. I added some AGM 12C Bullbups from the Hasegawa Aircraft weapons set : B. I know that the F-8 never used these in combat but this is what the F-8E model was designed for. They look pretty cool on the finished model. This plane was set up for the ground attack mission using the Bullpups and the 8 Zunis. The kit was pretty much built OOB after the missiles and decal sheet, I used a True Details bang seat. FYI.. the decal placement sheet for the star and bar for the wings is incorrect. The placement should be out all the way on the wingtip not over the wingfold. If you look in the old "Squadron F-8 Crusader In Action"; there are pictures of the wing top of this squadron. It is also shown right on the cover. Of course I saw it too late as I had the book staring up at me about 18 inches away (why look at it, when it's right there). Anyway done is done. Overall a nice build. Hope you like it.

A whole convoy for a target rich environment. They look good so far, get 'em done. Re-supply from the air, I hope they are not to late to save the convoy. Nice job Mark!! Bill -
Hello all, Well I did some checking around for markings for my in service bird. While checking out the internet for ideas, I came across the nose art I had from a B-36 decal sheet (caveman riding a dinosaur). I checked around and found out it is for 15th AF, 92nd Bombardment group, 326th Bomb Squadron (Heavy) Loring AFB. Tail modex was a circle with a "W" inside of it. Squadron colors were red with yellow stripes. This is what I am going to work with for the 'wing'. There is a side view drawing of a B-36 in its markings in the old Squadron/Signal "B-36 in Action #42" book in the centerfold. All I need to figure out is what to paint which color. I'm leaning to painting the nose gear door red with yellow stripes and then painting the spinners red with a yellow spiral. I'll put the squadron patch (caveman/dinosaur) under the starboard nose by the bomb/nav window. I think this will set the plane off pretty nicely. I may try to fit a circle "W" onto this thing somewhere. Whadda ya think?

Hi Mark, I have some B-36 Decals I am going to use. It was a decal sheet that came out when the Monogram B-36 first came out. I may modify the tail codes to put them out on the wings (Circle or Square or Triangle with a letter in the middle) like the old bomber codes, just smaller. I was also thinking about maybe putting something on it for a "Giant Voice" competition aircraft, What, I don't really know right now. Just a Thought. Some of the B-36's had some nice looking colors...red/yellow, Blue/white and such. Time to raid the internet. Some pic's soon. Until then...See ya's Bill

I love seeing models lit up. This looks very cool. Nice job on the build. Did the hangar bay come with this kit or was it scratch built? Bill -
Thank you gentlemen. This build just started by opening the box last Sunday. I was just going to peruse the plastic so to speak. One thing led to another and within three days I had the interior painted and had the thing pretty much together . I've been filling seams and polishing plastic for this lovely silver beast. I hit up a couple of seams with silver paint and rescribed some of the panel lines lost in the filling process. I am going to use MM Aluminum to paint the plane (not metalizer). Then I'll buff/ polish/ paint various panels. I'm going to make the plane as if it was selected for production and put into service (USAF 54?) along with the B-36. I'll put on some squadron colors, nose art and add all of the defensive .50 cal barrels in the turrets. This plane begs to be more than just a silver boomerang. More to come. Stay tuned. thanks again for the comments Bill

Here is something you don't see too often. I started the AMT/ERTL B-35 and got most of it together in a week. It is an easy kit with no drawbacks and some pretty good detail. As soon as I figure out posting more pictures there will be an update wit the whole wing together, filled and sanded. Much fun while waiting for the Hasegawa F-8E crusader to dry. Stay tuned.

Italeri F-4S VF-301 "Heater-Ferris" - 1/72
WildBill50 replied to DaveDeLang's topic in Photos: On the Bench
That is one of my favorite paint schemes for a F-4. You did a great job on it. I put that scheme on the very old Revell "J" model, back when that kit was out for my uncle. The only reference was one or two pictures I had from an Air Combat magazine. This bring back alot of those memories of trying to recreate that photo. I hand painted the tail markings and used red decal stripes for the arrow on the tail. Oh what fun. -
Very martainy(?)!!! It really captures the look of the "RED PLANET". Is the TWA ship lit up or are the little blue lights just MV lenses? COOL! Bill

Another photo. Thanks for the comments.

Here are a few pictures of the Monogram Lunar landing site. This was made by my daughter who loves space and sci-fi stuff. She built it out of the box but added more foil than what was in the kit. She used rollo candy gold foil and black bare-metal foil. http://i1130.photobucket.com/albums/m535/Phantom4C/LEMMomsenPerry016.jpg

Don't use lacquer thinner!!! Stupid me just tried doing this without thinking. Turned the paint into a gummy mess and melted the plastic also (must be a little to hot, duh). I just got done reordering the parts that I ruined. Try the other options and learn from the mistakes of others. Bill

Nice build! I just started doing this kit as an SNJ-5 Navy bird. I'm also buiding it for a friend of mine who owns one and flies it on the airshow circuit. I hope mine comes out as nice as yours as it is part silver lacquer and sea blue. I hate painting silver. Anyway great job. Bill

Boy, do those pictures remind me of my USS Momsen build. As Ed Wahl stated that was a build/paint from you know where. Anyway, I have been using MM Acryl without problems since they came out. I never had a problem. I never primed, cleaned surfaces. Now on to to Momsen. I painted that lower boat hull 5 times. I could not get paint to stick to it. After the 5th time I was ready to sink her with all hands on board. It then occured to me to to try something different. I painted the upper hull first and then the boot stripe. Leaving the lower hull alone this time, I used post-it notes above. Since I wasn't taping over the red this time I was able to finally cover the ship's hull. I finally got it together and it is now docked on my shelf. After this adventure in model painting I think I might have had a bad batch of Acryl Red paint. The upper surfaces were masked off OK with no tear out. The post-it's worked perfectly without worrying too much about to much adhesion. In conclusion, you might have just had a bad batch of paint.
