Another 5 months and a small update. I have some pices finally painted to the point where other things can happen. This is a model that needs 5 other things done first to get to the part where you have to go. Small headway, but headway none theless. One of the things that I have been working on are the LCAC's. One gripe of the kit is that the skirts show them inflated. I am making one out of the box with photo-etch and such, and another one with a deflated skirt with the ramps down for loading in the wet deck. I took a "snake" of Sculpey modeling clay and wrapped it around the deck pieces of the LCAC and got it to where it looked like it was not blown up. I pushed down on the areas where the ramps would be lowered and then put the sculpture in the oven to harden. It didn't take long to cook it. Almost burnt it. I think it works for what you will see. I had to make it so it would fit in between the walls of the wet deck also. The deck with Sculpey bladder and the kit inflated bladder

Well, one hangar queen is on the shelf and completed. After waiting for ARMY decals for my Gallery 1/48th Marine CH-34, this is the result of that wait. Hoping someone would come out with decals was to no avail. Calling, E-mailing Gallery about buying a set of their ARMY decals from the model that they produce proved fruitless also. I waited and waited, then I had an idea. I went to my local Hobby Town hobby shop and asked the owner if he could try and round a set up for me. Two weeks later he called and said they are at the store to be picked up. Thanks, Steve (Hobby Town Orland Park, Il). Found out the distributor had to open a model up and get them for him that way. Anyway, with decals in hand I was able to get this bird done. Feedback appreciated..both good and bad. Thanks for looking. More pics in the "on the bench" forum. Bill Bill

I have the sheet of decals. I got them through my local Hobby Town owner, Steve. It took him some time also but came through in the clutch. Finished pictures of the languishing build soon...I hope. Bill

Another boat well done. Looks great Chris. I'd leave the rails grey since everything gets painted on a ship at sea, right? Otherwise you'd have to rust them up also. Just a thought. Bill

Hi Warren, I'd try opening the top seam of the fuselage back to that slot and shim it to the correct width. re fill the seam and sand smooth again. My dos pesos worth. Bill

Keep those pic's coming Gill. A question for you. Are you painting the radome on the bottom or are you leaving it black with the metal color. I've seen it in a buff color to the rear. I don't have a lot of references in that regard though. Anyway, the scheme looks great. Anti-flash looks great. Bill

Nice job, Warren. I have one of those with the Senior Span pod from cutting Edge. Yours looks great. It sure takes up alot of shelf space. I put the flow fences on the bottom of the stabilizers with plastic strip. Found out that they were on both sides of the stabilizers. I have to try rescribing some day. Bill

Joe, I really like your presentation of this. The shark has has the same lines as the the vehicle...or is it the other way around? Anyway, they both have the same look. What is the old adage, form follows function! It look s very functional. Nice recovery on the paint job also. Bill

The F-104N was just an F-104G that was loaned back to NASA. There were 3 of them loaned to NASA. They were initially nmbered 011, 012, 013. The numbers were changed to 811, 812, 813. 813 crashed into the XB-70 on June 8, 1966. The other two surviving N's were given the civilian registration numbers of N811NA, and N812NA. Bill

Their products were excellent (PE). I really think that their stuff was the best. I ordered the PE set for the Wasp last year but it took about 4 months to get it. They said they were having problems with one otheir companies who made the PE for them. They had two vendors but one was going to raise their prices ridiculously. They asked the other vendor if they could pick up the slack and produce both their sets plus the other companies also. They said yes but I don't think they were able to keep up with what was demanded of them. Sorry to hear of this. Bill

Thanks Jim. I haven't done a NMF in a long time. Usually it's done with Bare Metal Foil. I liked the Alclad alot. Very durable stuff. It was the first time using it and it won't be the last.

Hey Gil, I used Rub and Buff on the stabilizer of the F-104. I used MM Enamel Aluminium for the underlying base and the the R/B over it. I liked the way it looked when completed. Keep up the great work. Bill

Gil, That is really coming together. Are you basically sticking with Alclad for the finish or Tamiya paints? Also, are you doing the white nuclear flash scheme or solid natural metal? So many questions...Inquiring minds want to know. Jimmy Stewart would be proud. Great job. Bill
