  1. But 1/72 scale IS the 'real' armor scale! After all only the best and bravest try it. All other 'just stick to' the 1/35th scale models.
  2. Couldn't play it. It even crashed my Firefox when I tried to close that tab.
  3. Thanks James! I do my best!
  4. My worst kit I ever built was a tossup between the Maquette Ka-60 helicopter and the Maquette C75 Stratoliner. Gee, I'm seeing a pattern here. Both were models that required you to assemble all the parts and then carve/shave/sand all the extra plastic off to reveal the models. I'm surprised they came out as well as they did! Best kit I ever assembled, hmmmm, Can't remember offhand although I do have a memory of one that I expected to be tough yet was so fast, easy, and fun to build that I was amazed. Gonna have to trek through my Hobby Room to remember which one it was. Best model/job I ever did, hmmmm...... Maybe the Academy Stryker in 1/72 scale; although I may change that later. I'd almost have to list best armor job, ship job and aircraft job I did. Gonna have to decide which ones they are. Worst job I ever did: Heller 1/72 scale E3B AWACS. I had to fill the wing roots with 1/4" sheet styrene doubled over just to fill the gaps. Several nacelles kept breaking off, landing gear breaking off, a lot of other parts breaking off; and this is all before I put the radar dish on! Finally, I just glued all the broken parts back on without trying to cover the fixes. Paint is the wrong color: I had to strip and re-paint it nine times! Finally I was running out of the correct color (for the third time! Not counting all thew white I used and re-used!) so I just reached for the nearest gray, shot it on, several days later I re-shot the white, and called it done!. Color's all wrong, white is cracked with all kinds of spiderweb cracks. Clearcoat also cracked in places.... man I could go on... I'll try to get more accurate answers later. Good topic here. I like it.
  5. Well, speaking as one of the Type I "fun" modelers from James Corley's list; I build the old models for nostalgia's sake as well as for fun. I also build them because I remember them in my old childhood friend's collection and always wanted one in mine. Some I rebuild to compare to the originals still on the shelf or ceiling to see how far I've come. Another reason I build them because sometimes I just haven't the income to buy new kits; especially the high priced ones coming out of the Far East. So, while I'm not able to buy too many, I'm able to build a bunch. My stash has slowly been shrinking faster than it's been growing. Still, to me, building the oldies is a great trip down memory lane. Gotta love the oldies!
  6. That is awesome I just hope they are not too expensive. Resin stuff gets pretty pricey sometimes. I've been trying to tell people that 1/72 scale armor ain't dead either. All I ever heard from so many people was that Braille Scale is dead so why develop more? So, at the 2007 Nats, I brought in 86 Braille Scale armor models, almost all had been released in the previous two years. I then asked a few people who'd spoken before, "If Braille Scale is dead, how come there have been so many new releases in the past couple of years?" There were almost twice as many new releases in Braille Scale than there were in 1/35th, according to one other person I spoke with then. Anyway, I'm glad to see that the industry is starting to realize it. Now if only the companies would come out with some M-109's, M-47's M-41's, M-5 Stuarts, ZSU-23-4's, Universal carriers, Centurion and Chieftain tanks....... but I digress. Back to your regularly scheduled programming. Thanks again Dave for posting this! Mark, have you a link to that source? I may want to pick up a couple things from him. For now though, I'll be getting a couple more Dragon model Shermans to use my Cpl Overby's Motor Pool M-50 and M-51 Sherman conversion sets on. John, thanks for that link. I'm still waiting for the one on the Braille Scale Forums on Missing Lynx since about 95% of those pics on your link are 1/35th scale. Good pics though! Thanks again for posting that. Okay, I've rambled enough... Back to the show.
  7. I'll be anxiously awaiting your list!
  8. Awesome! Alot of masterful work there. Many of those I'd love to see shrunk to 1/72 scale. Speaking of which, have you got any of them to show?
  9. I would love seeing all their 1/72 scale entries along with all the other photos. Every time pics are posted, they get forgotten.
  10. This Gallery looks just like the one used on the LEM. Same layout and all. Gee, I'd better refrain from posting here once permissions open up. I could flood these galleries. I already have on the LEM!
  11. Dave thanks! I actually did give the Tiger I a yellow/green/brown camo pattern, but then I over-brushed it with a green-tinted wash to get that color. Most interesting I thought. Thanks for the compliments and I'm sorry I didn't reply earlier!
  12. Interesting. I may have to try that someday. As a carpenter, I have some of that stuff laying around as well. And this really belongs in the "Tips & Techniques" Forum, but if you are protecting "state secrets" then I understand......
  13. Scooter, you can get an Allouette 316 from Airfix in 1/72 scale. It might even be the same kit. I built one already. The Super Puma can also be gotten in 1/72 scale from Italeri, and possibly also from Airfix; which most likely makes it the Heller kit as well. I also built one of those.
  14. Cool. My Saturday is shot, but I may get something done on Sunday. Looking forward to seeing the Beep.
  15. WOW! You called THAT a piece of junk in the other Thread?!! This is unbelievable! Makes me think it's time to hang up the Exacto blade! I'm speechless!
  16. Thanks Lee. Right now, I have a contact who has found kits of the other two stolen aircraft. I'm saving up to get them first. Then when I get them and build them, I'll think about getting the C-46. More to come.
  17. Excellent! Thanks Ed for all that info, and thanks Lee for confirming that one is out there. That would be awesome getting one of these. Imagine having a set of aircraft detailing the full line of transport aircraft developed over the years. This would be a good start. I'll keep my eyes peeled for one of those Commandos.
  18. Gee thanks Mark! Although, with only two posters here, I don't feel too 'worshipped' LOL! Thanks for the great compliment Mark! I'll keep them coming. I have three more on the verge of being done; hopefully soon.
  19. Thanks Lee! Hopefully I'll get a few more of these done soon. I need to clear the workbench for a couple of big projects.
  20. Cool. I knew the tracks were bad. I had a couple extra sets of replacement tracks set aside for them. Maybe someday....
  21. Thanks Charles. I have two, possibly three more coming in the next day or so. I'll keep you posted.
  22. Awesome! Thanks guys for the comments and thanks Clare for the pic. It would be great to get a C-46, but we'll see. Is the Williams Brother's kit injection molded plastic? I've never really heard of that company before. Thanks for letting me know about them and this kit. Hmmm... I'd love to get a set of extra decals to 'spice up' my C-75 like those decals do for the Commando. Maybe it's time to sift through my decal stash...
  23. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome once again to the Maddog Manufacturing plant where we will be rolling out four new tanks for my Army. I'll start with the finished tank from the Year of the Tiger Group Build on the LEM. This is Dragon's Tiger I "Gruppe Fehrmann" hybrid in 1/72 scale: Next up is a little something different. This is my Trumpeter Swedish Strv 103B 'S' tank in 1/72 scale: And a shot a little over the top: Last in the lineup are my two Russian T-55 tanks by Trumpeter. Here is the first T-55 with the BTU-55 dozer blade: And now for a shot of the dozer blade itself. I'm pretty proud of that: This last T-55 is the one with the KMT-5 Mineroller: That's all I got done so far. I'll keep you all posted on further developments. Meanwhile, thank you all for coming to another Maddog Manufacturing Open House to see the latest from the Duke's works. All comments are welcome.
  24. Wow, thanks guys. What great comments! Yes Clare, BLUE! That was the color call out that I saw and so that's what I used. LOL! I like it. Makes for a different appearance. I agree about the C-75 too. Now if I can only get a C-46 in 1/72 scale.... Thanks for the compliments. Thanks Gil! Glad you like them. The ball is still in motion; I have five more tanks almost finished. Hopefully in the next day or three Thanks Lee for the compliments. I agree, it's great that I can replicate the stolen plane. As for what happened at the '07 Nats, I took quite a number of models, among them were a 1/72 scale Aurora Pier Cherokee, a 1/72 scale Aurora Piper Aztec, and a 1/72 scale Eidai Beechcraft Bonanza identical to the one above. While I was packing up to go home at the end of the show, someone ripped the three aforementioned planes out of my boxes and took them home. I hope by now they are broken beyond repair. Fortunately, I have located replacements for the two Pipers at a reasonable and reachable price and as soon as I can pay for them I will get them built. As a side note Lee, I set a record for the most models ever entered at a Nationals convention, although nobody mentions it. I think it'll stand for awhile...
  25. Cool. If they show up, I'd be interested in purchasing them if the price is right. That is if you are selling.
