schooner Posted December 6, 2016 Report Posted December 6, 2016 Hey Guys (New Student Here) What glue do I use to set the cockpit canopy onto the fuselage ? I can't remember (do 2 my ol' age ...lol) What glue to use ? I believe it different then the glue I'm supposed to use for the rest of the plane. HELP !
dmorrissette Posted December 6, 2016 Report Posted December 6, 2016 You can use Elmers glue for one choice Dave
PeteJ Posted December 6, 2016 Report Posted December 6, 2016 There are a lot of choices but my prefered is Zap Formula 560. It is a white glue that dries clear and tacks up quite quickly. It also cleans up with water. It is available in the R/C section of most hobby stores as it was first created for R/C aircraft. If you must use a super glue then Zap polizap with the silver and blue lable is best. It was designed for gluing cracks in the Lexan bodies that R/C car hobbyists use. I won't fog, but you need acetone to clean it up so be careful on clear parts. Also in the R/C section
SkyKing Posted December 6, 2016 Report Posted December 6, 2016 You can also use clear enamel/acrylic. Paint it on canopy edges with a fine brush then stick canopy in place.
TimDarrah Posted December 6, 2016 Report Posted December 6, 2016 Also Future floor wax can be used. It will take awhile to dry/cure but it works
jcorley Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 I prefer G&S Hypo Watch Crystal Cement: never fogs, very permanent
ClareWentzel Posted December 22, 2016 Report Posted December 22, 2016 Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive works well also. It gives a strong join. (Info picked up at our club meeting last night)
Gromit801 Posted December 27, 2016 Report Posted December 27, 2016 I'm a huge fan of Tenax 7R for canopies. Great capillary action, I usually fit the canopy or clear part in place and using a 00000 brush loaded with Tenax, I just touch it to the join.
Mark Deliduka Posted December 27, 2016 Report Posted December 27, 2016 That's interesting Jim. Tenax doesn't affect the clear? This is good to know.
Eaglecash867 Posted December 27, 2016 Report Posted December 27, 2016 I've had good luck using clear epoxy. It doesn't fog things during its curing process.
Gromit801 Posted January 2, 2017 Report Posted January 2, 2017 That's interesting Jim. Tenax doesn't affect the clear? This is good to know. I've never had it fog the clear, just use caution to keep the cement off the areas not to be cemented. 1
