Very cool looking bird. The MRC 1/35 kit is going to be my next build (I think). I have the Zacto model Resin and PE set to update it. Bill -
EJ, In the photography forum under "on the bench" there are more pics from when I started this kit back in 2014. I will add some other pictures soon. I used the Squadron "USS Wasp In Action" book for reference and internet photos. I don't know if thatSquadron book is still available. Thanks for looking. Mark, Thank you. This took on a life of it's own and I'm glad it is over. I enjoyed most of the time on it but it did get to me after awhile. Thanks Tony; always appreciated. Bill

COMPLETED! Here are some pictures of my USS Wasp that finally got finished since starting it in 2014. There are pictures in the "On the bench" from the beginning of this build. I thought that this would take me about a year to build when I first started it. A lot of things put this build on hold for long stretches of time. I would work on it here and there every couple of months. I always wanted to get it done and I felt the model poking me in the back of the head when I would start something else. I would go back for awhile and then just stop for long stretches. I finally realized I was about 85 to 90 percent done after getting the island completed last February. I spent three months putting PE on that section with nothing really to see that would change how it looked to me. I finally stopped and took a real hard look and was amazed at all the little detail that was added. I couldn't see the forest for the trees up to that point. After stepping back and really assessing what was left to do I just hunkered down and went at it. I got burned out on making helicopters and putting decals and details on them. I added lights to the hangar deck and wet deck. I added more PE on this ship than on all of my other ships combined. Was it worth the time and monotony? MOST Definitely. I am really happy how it turned out because it came out how I pictured it to be when I started it. It took it's toll on me but it made me a better modeler because of it. So here are some pictures of the USS Wasp LHD-1 Any and all comments welcome. Bill

Looks like Ben Grimm's pet from the Fantastic Four. Very nice work on him (her?). Bill

Where's Snoopy when you need him! Nice work on all of them. How did you do your props? They look great. Bill

COOL! I like the paint scheme too, along with the "Roo's" on the side. That really has a high silhouette for an attack copter. Bill

Thank you gentlemen, This was a great pallet cleanser for me. It was pretty much out of the box with no real vices. Mark, There are so many different paint schemes I've seen for this plane. The white one was for the testing of the plane and then would have been on it if it would have been on nuclear alert. From what I've been reading about it though it would have ended up like the Tornado with all of it's different camo schemes. Since it wasn't put into production the sky is the limit for how you could paint it. There are a bunch of schemes on line with decal to match. Go for it. It is a really cool looking jet...even in white. Bill

Very creative display. The ship looks great also. Nice job again, Kevin. Bill

Nicely done! Aged just enough. Bill

I had a heck of a time trying to tint the canopies. Everything that I tried just ran off and pooled up. One of our club members, Richie experimented with a bunch of concoctions and finally got something to stick and was the right color. He used white glue and clear paint and all kinds of VOODOO Magic. Whatever it was it worked great. Thanks Rich! It feels great to get something done finally. Bill

Here is the Airfix 1/48th TSR2. I added a CMK cockpit and SAC metal landing gear. The SAC gear addresses one of the problems with the kit. The kit gear is splayed out about 3 degrees and the SAC gear corrects that. I added some hydraulics and brake line to them also. Since all of the TSR's flew in a white test scheme, I wanted something that looked a little more menacing. I painted mine in a tactical wrap around paint scheme of MM Dark Sea Gray and MM Dark Green. The tail I painted up like a show bird from the #16 Squadron, The Saints. I always liked there little guy with the halo. I found a picture on the web and it was thee perfect size for the large all moving tail. I adjusted the fuselage contour where it meets the top of the wing. The CMK cockpit really helps this kit. There are other parts that could be addressed by resin, but I chose only the cockpit. I don't think any putty was used for construction. I had a great time building this thing and boy is it big. Bigger than an F-111. Any comments good, bad, indifferent, all welcome. Bill

Great job, Kev! I think top hats should make a comeback. I like how you have the snow on the hat. Bill

Nicely done sir! Great pit you painted up; the resin parts really dress that up. Bill

My hat is off to sir! Great pictures and explanations for the way you do what you do. Keep it coming. Bill
