Thanks Chris. The train is the Hobby Boss kit. They've also done a Br-52 locomotive, and a WC-360 locomotive; both of which I've also built. The Br-52 was even more complex than this Br-86. I do hope that Hobby Boss comes out with some more locomotive and other train cars (like flatcars), especially armored locomotives. We'll see. Stay tuned for more.

Happy New Year and welcome to the newest edition of Maddog Manufacturing's newest works in progress for the year 2014. I got a slightly slow start, but then I'm trying to get caught up on a couple of older models that have been sitting around for far too long. I'll start with the aircraft I've been working on. This is my Yak 28 that I finally took down; sanded off the cracked paint until it was smooth, and then coated the whole thing with Future. After the Future dried, I shot another coat of Tamiya bare Metal Silver over this. There's still a few blemishes, but I'm sick of this thing still sitting on my workbench, so I'm moving on. Here it is all ready for decals: Speaking of decals, I finally got up the nerve to start applying the decals to my DC-6 Super Cloudmaster. I started with the tail colored decals and then moved on to the fuselage. You can see that the nose does not want to sit down. Later I'll try to apply some decal softener to see if it'll lay down without very many wrinkles. I'm also going to see about getting that same orange color in paint to see if I can use it to touch up anything that needs it. I already do need to touch up one decal that lost a part of itself on the tail when I bumped this thing. Here it is so far. I stopped here because I want to apply a clear coat over these before I go on. I'll probably cover this thing at least three times in clear coats before I am done: Moving on to my armor side of the factory, we find the Stuh 42 showing more progress. I got the upper hull all finished up here: Here is the cannon for this beastie: Next I added the gun mount to the inside of this lower hull. The main gun will snap into this mounting here: This is simply a 'mockup' of all the major assemblies all dry-fit together to give you an idea of how this is looking so far: Next I pulled out my Br-86 locomotive and shot some paint on the lower chassis: Lots of places to touch up. I later did just that, shooting into every nook and cranny I could. I then set it aside and after it was dry, I hit every patch of unpainted plastic I could see. While that was drying I shot paint on the boiler and the cab, as well as the coal bin. After that dried, I shot some Panzer Dark Grey over parts of it to modulate the color a bit. I overdid it some so I later toned down the grey with some more black misted over it. Here is the locomotive dry fit together so you can see how it looks now that it is painted: This is almost ready for decals and some finishing touches. And that is the start of my New Year's model production. More to come soon. I'm trying to get as much done as I can before I start my next job on the 6th of January. Can't wait! Thanks guys! I've been practicing and experimenting with the powders, trying to find some thing that is acceptable enough. I think I'm closing in on something... whether it's the right thing or not; time will tell. Chris, you are right, we are blessed. I love the great variety of Braille Scale subjects, but I still lament the great holes in the potential subjects that nobody seems willing to do in our scale. Hopefully someday.

Well I don't know my biplanes very well; someone else who knows them better can identify this more accurately. If I had to hazard a guess; it almost looks like a Curtis Jenny with floats added to it. Don't take anything I say seriously; like I said, I don't know my biplanes very well.

He did some good stuff! Really nicely done! And he may be into Legos now, but the seed has been planted. Someday he just may return to models.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the support. Mark, I also have a model of the fixed gear one. That had been built about three years ago. Thanks Bill, this was a tough fight, far tougher than it should have been. And yes, I will be pulling it down to fix it once I find something that I know I can apply properly! Every time I look at it that mess on the side is going to bug me till I fix it! Yes, Jim, this is tiny. The fuselage from propeller to tail is only about 3 1/2 to 4 inches long. Once I get it fixed, it's gonna look good next to all my other civilian aircraft.

Thanks Gil! Most of what you described re: applying directly to the model, I had tried. I couldn't do it to save my life! Then again, that was not the easiest place to apply anything, but I appreciate the tips. Maybe someday I'll have a go again, meanwhile, I'm keeping my eyes peeled for some wet-transfer numbers and letters. Boy you said it! That's a very accurate description, especially considering that this simple little thing took me eight months to finish!

Happy New Year everyone, this is my post showing my last model finished in 2013. This is the ModelCollect 1/72 scale Russian TOS 1 MLRS, or as they call it: "Flamethrower". They call it that because it lobs rockets that have Fuel Air Explosives in the nose. As you recall, if you've been following my Manufacturing Thread, you've seen this fresh off the factory floor. Here it is after the crew took it for a spin to test it out: Here you can see it after they parked it next to my other TOS 1A Buratino that I had built earlier this year: Now that is some serious firepower there! That's all I have for you now. Here's to a more productive New Year with a lot more models finished. I need the room that is being taken up by so many boxes! I'm going ahead and declaring this thing finished for now. This is the old Arii Cessna 172 floatplane in 1/72 scale. I had gotten it for a mere $5.00 and was hoping to make this look really good. From the beginning, this gave me all kinds of trouble: Prop getting lost, decals shattering, white paint needing to be stripped and re-painted etc. Finally, I got the red stripe decals I needed and some dry transfers to add the registry numbers to the fuselage. Well, this has revealed to me how badly I suck at dry transfers! So, I put on what I could and now I'm calling this thing done because I'm simply tired and fed up with dealing with it! Once I get some new water based decals, I'll remove these bad numbers and letters and replace them. Until then this thing is going onto my shelf as a finished model: I even had to scratch build the rudders on the backs of the pontoons since they had broken off and disappeared. You'll notice that one side is even missing the '9' because the stupid thing folded up and disappeared. And there were only two of them that size on the sheet! Thanks for looking in, any suggestions for this thing are welcome. I still can't get over how such a simple, easy little model with so few parts can be a hundred times more troublesome than Dora!

Hey everyone! Happy New Year! Here's a small update to close out this factory line for 2013. Not too much got done, but I managed to finish one, and another one I got so fed up with fighting that I'm declaring it done. Here's what is still in progress as of the end of the year. On my aircraft, I got the sidewalk on around the parking lot washed with a Burnt Sienna wash. Next up is to flock this thing: I also fought the ancient decals onto the airship itself. I hadn't any instruction or anything, so I just guessed at where these decals were supposed to go. I found out later when I found the box top how very wrong I was. Oh well, they are on there now and this is where they are staying: I also applied the dry transfers to the Cessna floatplane. This revealed to me how badly I suck at applying dry transfers. They look like crap, but until I find waterslide decals in the size and font I need; I'm declaring the thing done and moving on! You can see pics in my finished aircraft thread. Moving along to armor, here is my Russian TOS I MLRS all decaled, washed and drybrushed. She's looking factory fresh here: You can see here how I modified this so the launcher would raise: This one also got done already as well. After those pics above were taken, the crew took her out for a spin. I got pics of her after their inaugural drive in my finished armor thread. The crew was even nice enough to park her next to the other TOS I Buratino that I'd finished earlier in the year. Feel free to check it out. And finally, I started a new model: Dragon's StuG 42 for a StuG Group Build on another Forums. I didn't get far this year; only got the wheels, drive sprockets and idlers on the lower hull: And that closes out my Manufacturing Thread for 2013. It's been a great run, especially when I was building Dora; hopefully 2014 will see me increase my output to it's usual level. Thanks for the great ride guys, comments are welcome. What he said. It is also known as "Braille Scale" since rumor has it that anyone doing this scale goes blind from squinting at all the small parts. Another common tongue-in-cheek remark is that Braille Scale is dead because these small models are so small that nobody sees them when they are set down on contests tables. This also leads to the other tongue-in-cheek comment that Braille Scale models never win because the judges cannot see them to judge! Now before anyone gets upset, these are all comments made in jest; I myself have laughingly said them. I even made the comment about "I wonder if the judges will see my Dora well enough to judge her, she is in Braille Scale after all!" which got an great laugh from everyone around me. This is one of the Group Builds that we have done and the one with (so far) the highest participation. We do these Group Builds over on the Missing Lynx Braille Scale Forums every quarter; our next one will be "Shelf Queens". That one is expected to also have heavy participation, based on the number of people expressing the desire/New Years resolution to finish a number of models they have languishing on the workbench for far too long. I'll keep you all posted when that one gets done if you wish.

Well, I for one cannot see where you messed it up. It sure looks correct to me. You've managed to hide your mistake very well, at least to these eyes. In that respect, you do deserve a bow.

I saw my new one. It's a bit inaccurate as I barely use acrylics! I'm more of an Enamel kind of guy. The most frequent 'acrylic' I use is Future! LOL!

Dannie, I would love to go, but as of yet, I have no ride. Don't think I'll get one in time. I do have a truck, but with the gas mileage it gets, I'll be out of money before I get there and won't be able to enter. I was going to bring Dora too. I do plan on being at the other show in June; I have a fellow IPMS member who drives me down there. Still, if things work out; I'll try to make it in January.

Recently the Missing Lynx Braille Scale Forums held a Softskins Group Build in which approximately twenty people participated. Everyone knows the Germans love to engineer; or over-engineer as it were. Still, this was meant to escort ships like the Scharnhorst, Gneisenau or even the Bismarck and Tirpitz while they go after the transports crossing the Atlantic. In that respect, this launch system would be efficient enough. It wasn't meant to be a strike carrier per se; the fighters were meant to protect the surface vessels attacking the convoy while the dive- and torpedo-bombers supplemented the surface attacks. The dive- and torpedo-bombers were also probably meant to go after the convoy escorts to keep them off the surface ships so that the surface ships could take out more transports. When you consider it in this context, their system pretty well makes sense. Just my two sense from what little I researched while building my old Revell plastic one some years ago. I got a second one and a Minsk carrier to kitbash into a "What if?" Soviet carrier that I may someday do. Chris, I bow in the presence of Greatness! This is one incredible ship, and I can see many awards in your future with this. Next Christmas, I want Santa to bring me a copy of your abilities!

Holy crap! That is one of the most outstanding Marauders I've seen yet! Simply amazing; all the more so since it came from a Snap-tite kit! Grey hairs or no; you are a Master at BMF! Way to go!

I like it! I think this would be so cool! Maybe you can add Kitbasher in there somewhere; it could be a lower rank signifying someone that just 'bashes' something together (like I do! LOL!) or a higher rank signifying someone who takes two or more kits to make a Masterpiece. Gotta love the Lord of the Sprue! LOL! And if you want to give a custom title, well, I have one in my signature: Virtuoso of Miniatures. A friend of mine on another Forums gave me that one. I think it was Gil or someone else here who called me the Prince of Persistence. Right now I fall into the Model Master rank. and I don't think I am nearly the Master that everyone else here is! Can't wait to see this activated; this is gonna rock!

I've heard that is an excellent kit. I think I saw it built when Jim Wechsler brought his into our AMPS meeting some time back.
