  1. You would probably have to do some modifications, but Plastruct and Preiser make 1:200 architectural figures.
  2. For acrylic paint, I really like Tamiya. I use their thinner to thin it for airbrushing and then clean the airbrush with Windex (with ammonia D). The problem with Tamiya paint is their color range. If you are looking for a specific FS or RLM color, you are mostly out of luck. In fact, other than WWII Japanese colors, everything else usually requires some mixing of multiple colors (per their own instructions). On the other hand, ModelMaster has a really good color range, but can be a bear to clean out of your airbrush. Use the wrong chemical and the paint turns to sludge.
  3. I am insanely jealous. Have a great time and send back lots of photos!
  4. My two nits probably don't occur too much anymore, but; (1) manufacturers that bag the clear parts in with the rest of the parts trees so that they can get scratched (2) using tinted clear plastic for all the clear parts in an auto kit. Windshield, headlights, etc...
  5. Rusty, it looks like you are looking a year too early. The 7th is on a Wednesday this year. In 2014, the 6th is a Wednesday.
  6. Were you satisfied with how your camera windows turned out? Very nice build Gil.
  7. I think, like you, that my fascination with a particular aircraft increases when I read the history of the aircraft and the stories of the pilots that flew them. I am also a sucker for the unusual, so I love to see anything that shows odd/non standard markings on a particular aircraft. Finally, I enjoy slice of life photos of any modeling subject (aircraft, armor, ships, etc) that might make an interesting vignette or diorama.
  8. Thanks! Not to highjack your build thread, but it sounds like it would work great to cut a white backing for decals that are too transparent. Plus cutting shapes for masks. Anyway, please proceed with the buildup of the C-121.
  9. What is the device/machine you are using to cut the window masks? (Fourth picture up from the bottom)
  10. Very nice! I always enjoy the unusual subjects. And built in the proper scale too. :)
  11. This should be able to get you started. http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10028599
  12. August 6 - 9, 2014
  13. I am very fond of these Tamiya products for working with plastic kits. The router runs at a slow enough RPM to minimize melting the plastic. Plus, Dremel has a collet set that can be used with the Handy Drill & Router which allows you to use all the Dremel bits. I even use a wire with a loop on the end chucked into the router as a paint stirrer. And on top of that, they are kits, so once completed, you can take them as completed projects to your next club meeting... :D http://www.hlj.com/product/TAM74042 http://www.hlj.com/product/TAM74041
  14. There is also this beauty in 1/72 from Fantastic Plastic. http://www.fantastic-plastic.com/RukrIcarus-CatalogPage.htm Or there is the crashed Icarus kit from Federation Models. http://www.federationmodels.com/ Navigate to "Model Kits" then "Skyhook Models". The Icarus will be the first entry.
  15. A similar question came up at the Nationals concerning a car that had flocking on the seats. The answer from the current (previous?) head automotive judge was that it is still OOTB because flocking is a finish, like paint or decals. By extension, I would see Bare Metal Foil as a finish and would be allowed.
  16. If I remember Chuck Holte's report correctly, the website will go live in mid September. Most of the important data should be available then.
  17. Dude, that is an incredible paint job! Are all the skulls hand painted?
  18. I have currently received four bid proposals for consideration to host the 2014 Convention. I am not anticipating any more bids, but it is possible that someone may come in at the last minute and submit a bid. The four groups and respective host city are, in no particular order; IPMS/Gateway - St. Louis, Missouri Mid-Carolina/IPMS, IPMS/Gamecocks, IPMS/Piedmont Scale Modelers - Columbia, South Carolina IPMS Tidewater - Hampton, Virginia Chattanooga National Convention Committee - Chattanooga, Tennessee I will make no comments on the contents of the bids. The review team is examining the bids and we are looking forward to the presentations on Saturday, August 11th at 10AM. We'll see you in Orlando!
  19. Official, no kidding, these are the dates, are August 14th - 17th. Hope to see you there.
  20. Thanks Dan. The airshow is a bonus I wasn't expecting when I planned on attending. I can't wait to see the N9M fly.
  21. Dan, With the airshow going on this weekend, is parking along Kenny going to be a problem for the show? Thanks, Mike Ronnau
  22. Very nice model. How did you make the two panels on the secondary hull (where the pennants on the port and starboard side are located) recessed? The AMT kit has those panels proud of the secondary hull.
