    Academy 72nd M977

Ah, Mark, you're making me blush. Actually, thanks, I appreciate the feedback.

    Academy 72nd M977

My review is now up on the site. http://www.ipmsusa2.org/reviews2/mil-veh/k...emy_72_m977.htm
  3. HEMTT looks good in the tri color. Did you mask that or hand paint?

    Airfix DUKW

Looks good. Built that kit years ago (like 30). I actually have the Italeri version and am thinking of doing a civilian version just to be different.

DToys does the resin conversion for the tanker, comes with the Academy kit. http://www.diener.co.kr/board.php?board=di...=body&no=79

    Academy 72nd M977

I have got to save up and grab the halftrack kit. Have wanted to convert one into an Israeli version for some time. Also had a buddy from England send me a Russian 12.7 gun to mount on my Syrian Panzer IV project. Could have sworn I had seen a conversion set for this some time ago and Condor does the decals.

    Academy 72nd M977

That set could work. I was thinking of a full set of barrels or possibly some Abrams ammunition pallets. The final model is pretty good size for 72nd scale being almost 6" front to rear so there is lots of room to fill in the cargo area. So far the only accessories I have seen for this are a set of resing wheels from Dtoys (but they only give you 8) and a replacement photoetch grille from Arthur Clark (links to both of these are in the review). The kit has a few other areas that could use some attention that photoetch (like Eduard) or other may help fix. I kind of hope they follow up with a tanker version.

    Academy 72nd M977

Finally finished this Review kit for IPMS/USA (review should be up sometime soon). Had a few problems and some areas could use some additional work or replacement (wonder when the photoetch will be out) but overall was a good kit.
  9. The 32nd scale kit is a reissue of the old Aurora model with the 24th scale version as new kits. I personally have been waiting for a good 24th scale kit so I don't have to convert the old Futura kit. Still may get the 32nd scale kit as would make a neat dio with the 35th scale Batcopter I hope to build someday.
  10. Welcome from another Utahn. Don't make the SLC meetings anymore but usually show up at the shows.
  11. So I had heard that this kit (one of the Revell Easy Snap small kits) was pretty close to 72nd scale so I used a 40% off coupon at Hobby Lobby and picked it up. Figured I would do a repaint, fill seams, etc. Opened the package and sure looks smaller than my FineMolds TIE so did a little research on the web which showed the "Reel" vehicle to be 9.2 meters long and the kit says it is 2.8 inches long. Quick calculation later the kit seems to scale out closer to 129th scale which is no where near my 72nd collection. What to do, what to do. So I said heck with it and snapped it together with no additional paint or putty (did use a little glue on some spots for added strength and now I have my first completed build for 2010 in just over an hours time. Kit has decent detail and Darth is in there too. One step closer to my goal of 12 builds this year.
  12. Looks good Mark. How did you handle all the ejector marks in the bed walls?
  13. I think that is too generous Mark. The average 72nd scale armor is about half the size of it's 35th scale counterpark. And with the newer kits, some of the 72nd scale kits seem to have just as many parts (which my fat fingers find very annoying). So, a 2 for 1 ratio should be enough for most but I can see you giving up to a 5 to 1 ratio. I know some guys who can put out 10 detailed 35th scale pieces a year. We have one guy in our club who used to bring in 3-8 pieces a month.
  14. Nice start Mark. I am also working on the HEMTT kit for review and have just a little left to paint and then final assembly.
  15. My LHS has the Vulcan Shuttle, UFO Mystery Ship (aka Leif Erickson) and the old Mr Spock with the 3 headed snake thingy. Probably will pass on the shuttle although it does have some Whiff potential. Will probably pick up the other 2 kits as I always wanted to redo the UFO as the Erickson and saw a neat build of the Spock kit in an old Scale Modeler where the guy did some slight mods to an arm and a leg and put him in a setting from "The Man Trap" that I have always wanted to do something similar.
  16. Thanks Mike, Can't find too many pics from that show. This dio has no ships in it. A PBJ, a couple Corsairs and a scratchbuilt PBY plus some trucks, buildings, trees, etc.
  17. Dang it. Hate it when you can't find something on the web. Several years ago I saw pictures of a WWII Pacific airbase dio done in 1/350th and I am trying to find the pics and story around it without success. The Whatifmodelers are contemplating a Teeny-Weeny Group Build and I wanted to show off what can be done in this scale. Thanks.
  18. I know Gil has probably seen this as he is represented. Every Year, ARC uses the first week of the year as Silly Week where they post articles of What Ifs, Humor, cars, ships, figures, basically anything that doesn't fit the "normal" aircraft theme. Being an avid What If and humor modeler I really look forward to this and have had some of my builds published in the past. This year they seem to have a bumper crop of articles and is well worth checking out. http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/ One of my favorites is this lass. Definitely a category we should add to the Nationals, picking Miss IPMS.
  19. I had a room for a year, then my oldest moved back in to save money. So I still have the desk in his room, I can't model in there. So I build in the kitchen and have to clean up when we have company (not that often). The stash in in the storage area of the basement but it is finally out of the boxes and on shelves.
  20. Looks great. I would love to get my hands on another 72nd scale version from the Hasagawa Betty kit. The one I have took a tumble and I couldn't find all the pieces.
  21. Steve, Hope you are bringing this to Phoenix. Would look great on the SIG table if you don't enter it.
  22. I like the idea of attaching the model to the base. Can be very helpful if you have a fragile nose gear and don't want to add any extra weight. One area where they can hinder you is in transporting them to the show. Depending on the size of the bases, you may not be able to pack as many in your box, etc.
  23. Dave, Which kit have you got? Looks like the Academy version comes with markings for Iowa and ND ANG, both appear to be in ADC grey. Maybe someone has a kit they could swap decals with you?
  24. If I can get my hands on one, a Revell 72nd F-22 for the Let it Snow GB at Whatifmodelers.
  25. I read the mock up at the show was 1/16th scale and made of balsa. "This kit will be available as the F-35A, F-35B, and F-35C, with all the various differences correctly documented. A complete engine, detailed cockpit, and weapons bay will be provided." From Internet Modeler.
