  1. Thanks James, you are not kidding about the boxart. Check out the link I posted in the general modeling forum regarding Box art from the 50s and 60s. Or this one by Mike Machat:
  2. Thank you Mark! It's one of my favorite schemes as well. I'm going to do another P-40E in the same scheme with USAAF markings.
  3. I really enjoyed looking at these builds. Of course the Monogram is my favorite! Don't you remember back in 1960s that model companies all had dark green and green for the top color and light blue for the underside for German aircraft? Boy was I surprised to learn that there were indeed other colors. What did you add to the Monogram kit besides the wheel well?
  4. I was surprised at the fit of the parts, especially the wing-fuselage joint. I did not have to use putty at all. It is a credible representation from Airfix. It was made 20 years after the real one flew. Now here we are almost 60 years from it's issue. What are the latest kits of this aircraft available? I think MPM made one but that's all I know.
  5. When I started building this kit I decided to re-scribe the model and it went well for a while. As I progressed AMS got hold of me because I felt some of the panel lines weren't perfect and so I put it away. Then one day I just said phooey to AMS and started building as is. So here is the A-20 out of the box that AMS caused so much anxiety.
  6. Thanks Gil. It is a tiny kit which grew on me as I built it. The under carriage is a bit confusing and I basically guessed in which leg went where.
  7. If you like vintage modeling, models and box art, check out Mike Machat's YouTube channel. He is an aviation artist and also a model builder. In this episode he covers box art and at 9:00 minutes he talks about the Revell A3J box art. I've illustrated exactly what he is talking about. Check it out if you haven't seen his videos.
  8. This is a fun project which turns things around.
  9. Amazing work Carlos. The detail is excellent. On the real tank how does the driver see where he is going? Thanks for a very interesting build.
  10. I really really like the Dragon M-46 and the HAWK V-1. All your models are awesome but these two jumped out at me. The last 1/35 Dragon kit almost broke of building their armor kits. The one I was building had too many parts and took forever to finish.
  11. Awesome painting! I love seeing these Monster kits given their due. Well done sir

Damn! I'm not listening to Art Bell late at nigh anymore. That's a scary beast.
  13. Seams and alignment and clean work are the main things I try to attain, and as simple as that sounds it can easy to mess up. I build out of the box and If that's what the instructions say then that's how I will build it. Entries should be judged on what's there and not on what's missing or how it should be. That's my 2¢ worth.
  14. A favorite kit is the S.A. Bulldog which was first issued in 1973 in a bubble pack. It is a little gem. This one is my second attempt and I'm not sure I attached the U/C properly. Does anyone here know of any aftermarket decal sheets with complete stenciling? I want to build it again. The rear windows protrude out and so I sand them down flush with fuselage. I also did the same thing with the canopy I used Tamiya paints and kit decals. It does need weight forward of the CG cause it will sit back. Mine barely sits properly.
  15. I have an Epson V800 photo scanner and does up to 4x5".. If you want a lab to do it check out these labs. I'm a film shooter although I do have pro digital gear. In fact I just ran a test roll through the scanner of photos taken with a Brooks Plaubel veri-wide which shoots 6x9 negs. It's a $3000 camera a friend gave to me! Here's a simple test shot https://duckduckgo.com/?q=best+4x5"+film+scanning+lab&t=avast&ia=web
  16. Thanks! This kit is not as common as the Revell A-20 but it was issued from 1963 to 2008. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/airfix-385-boston--161698
  17. Scanned from a 4x5 negative. This is an Eglin AFB based aircraft.
  18. Thank you Bob. I really appreciate you comments. These kits are inexpensive, especially at shows. I always come home with piles of these kit.
  19. Those phantoms whether USN or USAF put on a really impressive show, unforgettable in fact. To see if they will fit simply trace the decal on a sheet of paper and put on the fuselage half. But as you know the USN never flew the F-4E. F-4J are plentiful, but you did not mention the scale. Testors made a Blue Angel paint. The paintr or the models should be easy to find.
  20. Classic Kit: Airfix A-20 Havoc (1962) This is the classic A-20 first issued in 1962. It is built out of the box with only a couple of additions, namely a shim on the dorsal fuselage halves. The top fuselage is too thin as molded. Also I added guns on the nose. It is marked with an old ESCI decal sheet. I did not use putty on the wing joins. Since the nose clear parts were worn and thick I decided to use thin strips of tape for the framing. I used Model Master paints. Any info on the real aircraft and pilot is appreciated.
  21. Thank you Gil. That Mustang's camo is quite complex. You are right this kit has gone missing. I see it in the Miss America racing markings now and again. It's the same kit.
  22. Thanks Mark. I agree with you that Gil's display show kids what they can expect. This really wants to make me contact the local libraries about such a display.
  23. Thanks, from my understanding the top was RAF DG and that's what I used, and I can't remember if I used Neutral Gray for the bottom. Maybe others can offer more insight on the colors applied.
  24. Oh! I thought they were 1/48. Very cool. I do have many 1/72 Hasegawa jets, especially the F-14 but as yet have not built one. Sigh. Yeah I like scrolling through past posts and see what others have done.
  25. Revell's P-51D kit #H31 is similar to Monogram's version from the same era except it does not have the removable panels. Detail is not as crisp as Monogram's version but it is a simple kit and builds up nicely. Here's my version built out of the box. I dipped the spinner in red paint for the pointy end of the spinner.
