Thanks Mark!

Thank you. Yes it is really simple and a fun kit to build.

Ha! I was just learning about air brushes back then. I had a Badger air gun that hooked up to a compressed air can. That was my first airbrush. I made several nicely build models then but when I left for Basic and onward they disappeared. At the time one had to mix paint by counting drops of paint. I had an Imrie Risley chart which had paint matches.

Thanks, yes RLM paints are all over the place with very little uniformity between makers. I think I used Testors on this one. Close enough is good for me.

Ok. Then it was you. I forget the day I went, but I think you guys showed up real early. My son and I were there much earlier and a cop came by wanting to know what we were doing there. I told him there was a sale going on later and he was satisfied and left. I filled my van to the top and spent about $700. I know I came home with about 50 1/48 Hasegawa F-4 Phantom kits, each with different markings (probably for Japanese market). I had an eBay business then and sold all of the kits I bought that day. Now I'm that guy.

Oh man, I've only seen one other built up version. It certainly looks like an SOB second class. Well done.

Hey Nicholas, that would be great! Thank you very much. Here is my email: thevidgoo@gmail.com

That's it! Thanks

Hi Mark thanks. What site was this mafia using at the time?

Thank you Gil. Hey did you go to North Caroline several years ago for a huge auction of a kit collector who had passed away and left thousands of kits behind? I was first in line since I arrived at 3:00 am then another couple of guys and then Jeff Garrity from RarePlane Detective.

Ha! That's why I build verbally abused kits. I get tired of "crude, toylike, inaccurate, throw it away, give it to your kids, etc." comments.

Thanks James! It took some fussing around the nose and I think I added a pound weight in the nose 😉 to get it to sit right.

I have two T.O. 1.1.10 references but none show the SEA pattern for the F-4. One predates SEA and the other is from the 1990s and the F-4C/D is no longer in it. Anyone have a drawing of the pattern? I'm working on the Monogram 1/72 F-4C/D and would like to try to get close enough. Thanks! David

Simply amazing work Gil. It is a beautiful aircraft and your craftsmanship is superb. It so reminds me of the Japanese Dinah. Thanks for posting the build process.

Thank Carlos. Monogram kits are excellent value. I have a B-24J that I've been working on intermittently for a while now. Eventually I'll have to completely.

Here's is Monograms version of the Do335. First issued in 1974 this kit has re-issued many times. I built out of the box but worked on getting the seams around the upper nose and engine panels. I took my time with it and tried to make as clean a model as I could

Looking for a specific Testors Model Kit
thevid replied to Gregsed56's topic in Space, Sci-Fi & Fantasy
Ha! Yes indeed. If you ever saw the movie Contact with Jodie Foster there is a scene celebrating the event and it was exactly like that in Roswell. In this YouTube video the scene starts at 1:40. The couple in the photo were offering hypnotic help for those that had been abducted. -
There have been tremendous changes in molding tech but in the end it's the builder that determines the outcome. If I build one of those new kits with 10,000 parts I know I will not enjoy it and will probably lose half of them before I'm done. 🙂

Here's a simple out of the box build of Hasegawa's kit #MB-021. Only thing I did was add a clear plastic windshield and fill the fuel tanks with lead to give the model some heft and allow the tires to sit evenly. In the background is Airfix's control tower and Academy's B-17g. Photographed with a Nikon 950 coolpix. I think it would be an easy fix to replace the overscale headlight protectors with stretched sprue. I'll try that next time.

That is a fascinating instructional model. It better than any exploded (no pun intended) drawing. Well done sir.
