  1. I agree with Gil. Start with a medium gray. If you want a little wood color to show (for slightly less weathered wood) you can either do a thin wash of dark brown or you can drybrush with a light tan; however most of the colors you will use will be grays, dark, medium and light and maybe some white for highlights.
  2. Welcome. Glad to have you here.
  3. Can't help with the rigging, but that is a sweet kit. I'd do it if I had a trained rigging spider.
  4. I use the same, and for the same reasons. Your description of what you use, and when, is about as concise a way to put it as I have seen. Good job!
  5. Clare, You might have to look down a few entries on the blog. It is under "The battle of the barristers". There are two posts. When Jim and I decided to do this one of the first things I did was pull out your article from the Journal. I'll scan and post a copy of an illustration of Cane's markings. The only thing I may not be able to find on a sheet is the tail marking A yellow "swoosh" outlined in black. Worse comes to worse, I will mask and paint it. I was looking for an easy way out. BTW, Nice F-8 and I'd appreciate any additional insight from you regarding the kit. Look at my blog and you will see what I've already run into.
  6. I will look and see. If it is the Superscale/Microscale sheet, then it is the VF-53 CAG bird. NOt the one I am looking for. I can piece together all the markings (numbers, modex, etc) The only thing that I can't find a decal for is the tail marking.
  7. Well, I am lucky in that I have a big room in my basement that is my mancave. The modelwife is happy to have all my modeling stuff located in one room where she can close the door on it.
  8. I shoot the Future straight with no problem. However, IMMEDATELY after you finish spraying with Future, spray either Windex or straight ammonia thru the brush. If you allow the Future to dry in the brush, you will have to break it down and clean it thoroughly.
  9. Man that Lincoln bust on the UFO must have taken hours.
  10. Really nice looking. Would never know it is 72nd scale.
  11. Yep, but who wants to model an F-8 that has surrendered! I've already posted my blog update on the F-8. It is here: http://www.dknights.wordpress.com Where is yours?
  12. Does anyone know if any of the manufacturers do a set of 72nd scale markings for the F-8E aircraft of Lt Cdr Guy Cane of VF-53 when he got his MiG kill? If so, I'd appreciate knowing who makes them, etc.
  13. Two Mikes Resin might. You might post the question in their forum over at ARC.
  14. Try recoating the clear parts of the canopy with Future applied by brush. If the tape or paint solvent fogged the Future it is possible that anohter coat of Future will disolve and reset the original and get rid of the fogging.
  15. Only if you think he was right and the Pope was wrong. Why not hedge your bets and buy some indulgences, just to be safe. I have them very reasonably priced right now. I'll make it a two for one deal and throw in some carbon offset credits as well. You pay me now and I'll plant twice as much in my garden next spring. What a deal.
  16. Ron, Would you like to purchase some indulgences?
  17. Glad to help. Hope you enjoy it. Check out Ken Duffy's (Flankerman) build of the kit on ARC. You can pick up some good tips.
  18. Nice work. Can't wait to see it finished.
  19. Ron, You'll have to go to the Pope to get that level of forgiveness.
  20. For my washes I use tube oils, (Windsor Newton or similar) thinned with a lot of either Mineral spirit or Testor's enamel thinner. Obviously this must go over an acrylic base, either acrylic painit or Future over an enamel paint base. Washes with water as their base just never seem to work for me. They pool oddly. I have heard of folks using a drop of Windex or Dawn to help break surface tension, but it just never seems to work right for me.
  21. Oh Dick, I am so disappointed!
