Perhaps if we stay with the overarching BoB theme then the treadheads can do a Field Maintenance piece or a gun truck, the AC boys can do any number of subjects, the ship guys can do whatever it would be that was floating offshore, Figs have multiple subjects, even Autos guys have choices (No NASCAR with camo!). About the only group left out would be the Space guys.

Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase, "aggresive driving", and I agree. An 88 would be "intimidating" (Meaningful play on words if you're "nascar")

P-51 decals for scales 144 thru 24th?
Dick Montgomery replied to Dick Montgomery's topic in Aircraft
Thanks for the suggestions. I've forwarded the info to my friend. -
Perhaps its better if only a single build project is selected for the initial effort...we can split off and have several projects going at once when more people jump into this thread and wish to set up other projects. I've always enjoyed Battle of Britain models...I'm in Bill! May I suggest that if no other ideas pop up that you come up with a time frame and any other parameters you wish to toss in? I've got a Ju-87 that I'll work on. And Mark, if its BoB then one could do trucks or ground equipment or AAA that would have been used. Its a stretch but it beats a Cup Car with an 88 mounted on the hood.

Treadhead, You can always free lance a bit and put treads and a gun on the car!

How about a NASCAR subject? Sunday is Darlington...what better way to spend the day than watching the race and working on a NASCAR kit?

I use a higher thinner to paint ratio for Mr. C than with, say, Tamiya, but not 80/20. It has a rather short "usability" window once put into the paint cup. That might be due to the climate....generally hot and muggy and I airbrush in the garage.

I build paper models. I find that they "travel" well. I have a small tool box just for paper and it helps to pass the time when I'm on the road. Rockets and structures (buildings such as White House or various castles) are my subjects of choice.

A-37 Dragonfly...R U looking for one?
Dick Montgomery replied to Dick Montgomery's topic in Aircraft
Yes sir. I think its a nice kit. Not my cup of Coca Cola, though, otherwise I'd have bought that sucker already. Just thought I'd see if any IPMS Brothers would be interested. As far as I know its still on the shlef and awaiting a new home. -
A friend is working on a guide for an ABC (Adult Building Course). He wants to find a set of markings for the same AC that would be available for 1/144th, 1/72nd, 1/48th, 1/32nd, and 1/24th. Do you know of any decals that would feature the same aircraft markings in all of those scales?

Model kits that bring a smile to your face
Dick Montgomery replied to adfogel's topic in General Modeling
Adam... I pulled an old Airfix off the shelf the other day. Always liked the looks of the Auster Antarctic. I acquired the kit for fify cents or so from an estate sale, not in original box and minus the instructions. I've got it almost ready for priming and that should happen later today. I'm putting this version on floats. It's a fun build, not intended for anything other than the enjoyment of seeing an old model come to "life". I have to say, that after this 1/72 scale mini-kit I'm going to pick a 24th scale for my next airplane! -
Anyone looking for the old Monogram A-37 Dragonfly in 48th? My L.H.S. just got one on consignment.

Jamme, Thanks for joining up! Our webmaster is an F1 fan and runs a website dedicated to that area. Please contact him for more info. I'm sure you have found the threads that relate to the various kinds of models on the forum in which you have an interest. You'll find many of the modelers who post here share your particular interests.

Best kit?... That's tough because its very different than "most enjoyable"... Best kit would be: Dr-1 by DML in 1/48th Best job I've ever done: Tamiya Triceratops Worst kit: Lindberg Ju-88 Worst job I've ever done: Miss Budweiser by MPC or AMT...can't remember who produced it. That model kicked my sorry rear from here to Iceland. And to this day I don't know why....I just couldn't do anything right on it.

I seldom do 1/72 scale aircraft so I was not aware that Hasegawa made one of these things. This, as I noted in my post, is the LS kit. I bought this kit in an on-line estate sale and I think I got my $5 worth of fun. Not a difficult kit by any means even though the fit of the wheel well forward bulkheads is a bit sketchy, but who cares! This was a "kill some time" build! Clear parts will need some TLC. The overall fit is good, the detail is recessed, and I even used the original decals for the most part. Interior detail is "early airfix" or "early frog". I wanted to build this one to practice that camo scheme and get some quality time with the 'ol airbrush. I used an Iwata Eclipse and had very little trouble getting the webbed lines laid down. Don't know if the colors are right but I stole....er, borrowed, a scheme I found on the internet.

Just completed, this is the 72nd LS kit of the Ki-109

Waiting with great anticipation!

I guess we'll need to change your "handle" to 'Prop-Head"....unless you can figure out how to put some treads on this baby.

That is a very effective job on the instrument panel!!! Looking forward to more WIP pics!

Ron, I don't have an answer but I could recommend Google Images...perhaps there's a pic. Love to see the work in progress. Got pics?

Nice work! Very nice!

Leo, You might check some local schools to see if they have a need. Sometimes a former faculty member served in the Armed Forces and the school might find a model of a vehicle used by that serviceman. In the states some of our high schools have military classes (Junior Reserved Officer Training Corps, known as ROTC) and they are always eager to find sources of donations.

I've never tried the Brasso method. Sounds easy and coupled with the results that you describe it sounds like it is something I'll try. I'll hit the local store tomorrow to see if I can find a small can. And I think its time I replace my sheet of 12000 grit. One goes a long way since about the only time I use it is in conjunction with a canopy issue.

anyone here with info or intrest in old heller kits
Dick Montgomery replied to odwinn's topic in General Modeling
Just for the fun of it, check out the box top images of these Heller kits at http://ipmsusa3.org/gallery/v/box_art_album/ Drill down through the album for manufactureres until you reach Heller. Anyone having images not shown in this Heller Album can send them to me and I'll se that they get added. Include the kit item # (on the box ends) and the scale. Those items make up part of the image file name. -
Tom, Welcome aboard. Lakes Region is a very active club and I'm lucky enough to be on the distribution list for their newsletter. Lots of talented modelers there. I also like WWI 1/48th...latest was a Morane G. Kit was a challenge, Maquette, I believe, but it was fun. If you 've got some images of your work please feel free to share them with us.
