BWScholten Posted August 13, 2024 Report Posted August 13, 2024 For me the question is: What part of the job was taken from him? IIRC there was a short-lived desire to have him run the Journal (or maybe just the editorial) past the E-board prior to publication. Was it something similar to that? or something else? The public resignation letter from Chris is reason enough to ask for an explanation. That said, I am willing to wait until after the board holds it's next scheduled meeting.
ghodges Posted August 13, 2024 Report Posted August 13, 2024 Keep in mind that Chris COULD have elaborated more as to the precise reason(s) he resigned, but chose NOT to do so. I'm sure he has his reasons for leaving things as vague as they are. Many of us could contact him directly through various methods, but I believe it would be asking him to tell more than he's decided he wants to at this time, or he would have already spelled out more than he has. Who knows.... he may come back here and explain more in the future. As for me, I'm awaiting the Eboard to explain HOW they will go forward with the Journal in his absence. Perhaps they'll also give their side as to why they felt they had to ask Chris to do things he couldn't abide. Gil
Ron Bell Posted August 13, 2024 Report Posted August 13, 2024 I have found that in any disagreement, there are always at least two sides. Note I said, 'at least' as many times there are even more factors. Let's not start making assumptions quite yet as to who is at fault, if, indeed, there is any fault to be found.
SkyKing Posted August 13, 2024 Report Posted August 13, 2024 I’m still waiting for a reply from the EBoard. So far … crickets.
rsteinbrunn Posted August 13, 2024 Report Posted August 13, 2024 Having been an IPMS/USA member since 1969 (IPMS/USA 3345) I find it dismaying to see Chris resigning. Without taking sides, and knowing all stories have two sides, and without polarizing anyone's perspective, I would like to go on record as saying: Chris and I have collaborated on over a dozen articles for the journal and he has always given his utmost. The quality and accuracy of the articles he edited always made me feel like I wanted to contribute more. It takes some time and effort to write and photograph an article, but I have always felt rewarded by the final product. For anyone to contribute 18 years of his life to a purely volunteer undertaking deserves the highest kudos this membership can offer. For my self, I wish Chris clear skies, no turbulence, flight director engaged, and more time with his lovely family. Chris was Navy while I was Army, but I have always been able to overlook this character flaw of his (grin) and I encourage him to keep the blue side up. (Attitude indicator joke) --Bob Steinbrunn
Ingraham Posted August 14, 2024 Report Posted August 14, 2024 Chris, we're going to miss your outstanding work on the Journal. I've used recent issues as recruiting tools and your work/seeing what I've been missing is a leading reason why I re-upped after a hiatus of many years. All the very best, my friend, for whatever comes next--besides all the time now freed up for your family! Looking forward to our next session in Hampton next year.

JohnRatzenberger Posted August 16, 2024 Report Posted August 16, 2024 I am going to simply thank both Chris and John for their work, advice, and friendship, over the years. Job Well Done !!
dvonalmen Posted September 23, 2024 Report Posted September 23, 2024 Chris, Thank you for all your hard work. No one can understand better than I can after my 17 years in that position. You and John redefined the Journal bringing it into the 21st century and making it a pleasure to read. You both will be missed. As for the offering of a discount on membership...it is a celebration of the 60th Anniversary of IPMS/USA nothing more. Don't go reading between the lines thinking something is wrong with the society. Now as to content in the Journal and the covering of all genre of the hobby. This is accomplished with members of the Society providing articles of their interests to the Journal staff. They can only print what has been submitted, so if your genre is not covered in the pages of the Journal (or IUJ) it is not the fault of the Journal staff (volunteers) it is the membership. So submit articles for use by the Journal. Again, Thank you Chris and John.
Bert Posted September 24, 2024 Report Posted September 24, 2024 I've never seen a 60th anniversary celebrated. A 25, 50, and 75 all the time.........Weird.
