catdude01 Posted February 9, 2022 Report Posted February 9, 2022 wonderful progress so far, I like the stowage and the tarps.
Stikpusher Posted February 10, 2022 Author Report Posted February 10, 2022 Thanks Pedro. This is one project that I’m sure enjoying for its lack of obstacles.
Stikpusher Posted February 10, 2022 Author Report Posted February 10, 2022 Todays update, gloss coat and decals on. pretty basic markings, blink and you’ll miss them…. next up, some pin wash in select areas 1
Mark Deliduka Posted February 14, 2022 Report Posted February 14, 2022 Looking fantastic as usual Carlos! Wow, this is stunning work!
Stikpusher Posted February 16, 2022 Author Report Posted February 16, 2022 Thanks Mark! I do love me some IDF armor. Too bad I can’t bring it into So Cal AMPS or OC IPMS…. I finally had some uninterrupted bench time today, so I finished up the detail work on the stowage by cleaning up the oil wash then adding some dry brushing effects. I also continued work on the crew figures… more to come soon… 2
Mark Deliduka Posted February 16, 2022 Report Posted February 16, 2022 Wow, incredible realism here Carlos! Who knows? Maybe you can get some time off and come to Orangecon with this. I would be thrilled to see this in person!
Stikpusher Posted February 17, 2022 Author Report Posted February 17, 2022 Thanks Mark. I do know that Penni enjoyed Modelzona quite a bit, and I did mention Orangecon to her, so who knows. I do know that we have lots of travel plans for this year, so who knows. Stranger things have happened. 😏
Stikpusher Posted February 19, 2022 Author Report Posted February 19, 2022 Tracks painted and installed Not much farther to go now… 2
Stikpusher Posted February 19, 2022 Author Report Posted February 19, 2022 Today was a good session. I airbrushed on the flat coat then did some of the detail painting that had to wait for that step to be done, such as the periscopes and vision blocks… Just a few more small steps to go before I call this one finished… 1
Stikpusher Posted February 20, 2022 Author Report Posted February 20, 2022 Well, after todays bench session, I’m calling the tank completed. One more session tomorrow and I ought to be able to wrap up the crew figures and do a proper end of project batch of photos… 1
EdCarr Posted February 21, 2022 Report Posted February 21, 2022 I really like how this one looks, Carlos! Love the sand weathering on the decals, the treads, and the gas cans. I was following this build a bit 🙂 Can't wait to see the crew with it.
Stikpusher Posted February 21, 2022 Author Report Posted February 21, 2022 Thanks Ed. Took a bit longer than intended, but the end results are pretty much as envisioned. I hope that the crew figures don’t disappoint you. My figure painting skills are nothing to brag about.
Stikpusher Posted February 21, 2022 Author Report Posted February 21, 2022 So my first project of the year is now complete. This is Academy’s 1/35 M51 Sherman, an Israeli/French upgrade to the basic M4A1E8. I built it mostly OOB, aside from adding a clear acetate lens to the spotlight (no lens was provided), some .010 wire for the antennas, and replacing the nylon mesh for the grouser compartment vents with some brass mesh - the kit stuff was horrid to try to cut to size & shape. Base color is Model Master Acrylic IDF Sand. I based the markings off what few photos that I could find of M51s in the Golan during the October 1973 War, where the Israelis had to bring these old war horses out of war reserve to assist the Centurions in stopping then pushing back the Syrian onslaught and subsequently driving towards Damascus. Thanks for looking, comments and critiques are welcome… 3
TheMongoose Posted February 22, 2022 Report Posted February 22, 2022 (edited) Superb! Love the shading and how you built it up along the way. An awesome tank and the background info you added along the way makes me want to pick one up for the stash 🙂 Edited February 22, 2022 by TheMongoose
Stikpusher Posted February 22, 2022 Author Report Posted February 22, 2022 Thank you Chris. It’s a good kit, but it does have a few weak spots. If you can find one for a good price, go ahead and add it to your stash.
Mark Deliduka Posted February 22, 2022 Report Posted February 22, 2022 Magnificent work on this unique tank! Your weathering on this is sublime. Way to go Carlos and congrats on finishing another one.
Bradley25mm Posted February 22, 2022 Report Posted February 22, 2022 Great job Carlos. Not to overdone on the weathering, just the right amount. The base really makes it pop. Congratulations! Chris
Stikpusher Posted February 23, 2022 Author Report Posted February 23, 2022 Mark & Chris, thank you. It may be a bit slow, but the year is off to a good start now with this one.
EdCarr Posted February 27, 2022 Report Posted February 27, 2022 Carlos, I really like it! Everyone touched on what is good about this build. The weathering is fantastic and the color differences on the stowage items and fuel cans etc make the piece very dynamic overall and plain and simply make the build enjoyable for the eyes to look at. I, too, fret over painting crewmen and the like. Perhaps using artist color pencils and/or pastel pencils or pastel chalks would be somewhat beneficial?
Stikpusher Posted March 27, 2022 Author Report Posted March 27, 2022 Ed, that’s a good idea to try out artists pencils for my figure work! Thanks for the Greta tip and for your kind words on this build!
rvazquez Posted September 30, 2022 Report Posted September 30, 2022 Great work Carlos!, those all additional details in the rear adn figures looks excellent!. Regards, Rodolfo
Stikpusher Posted October 1, 2022 Author Report Posted October 1, 2022 Thank you for your kind complements on this build Rodolfo.
