ghodges Posted August 30, 2021 Report Posted August 30, 2021 Built this one for a co-worker who crewed P-3s in the Navy. Built OOTB; but I did have to make the bat tail art and paint the wing walks since the old kit decals were pretty well shot and I could find no aftermarket decals for VP-24. Now on to that 1/32 B-17E! GIL 2 1
Mark Deliduka Posted August 30, 2021 Report Posted August 30, 2021 Beautiful job Gil! I have one of these in the stash right now. (actually two; one is Japanese) Once I finish some of my other multi-engine aircraft, I'll have to try and build one of these. I hope your co-worker enjoys it. Way to go Gil!
nmertes Posted August 31, 2021 Report Posted August 31, 2021 I'm with Mark. Very nicely done. I also have 1 in my stash with plans to mark it for VP-30. I spent a couple years with the squadron while they were at Patuxent River 67-70 as a still photographer.
Dakimbrell Posted September 1, 2021 Report Posted September 1, 2021 At least you got the rudder on right. 😁 Dak 1
jlent Posted September 2, 2021 Report Posted September 2, 2021 Hey Gil - Wanted to congratulate you on a great job with the P-3C Orion--well done, indeed! My brother was a photo mate assigned to VP-5, "Mad Foxes," out of JAX--very impressive unit. I have the Hasegawa kit in my stash with the decals for his squadron. Look forward to the build. 1
VonL Posted October 16, 2021 Report Posted October 16, 2021 Another nice one, Gil! Well done paint-in-lieu-of-decals. My brother flew these with VP-19 (the Big Red). Kit decals for that colorful scheme are shot, so I may try one of their rare, lo-vis versions. He flew them with those markings for DESERT SHIELD 1990. The plane in the foreground appears to have the (then) new 3-tone gray camo. The one in back appears to have the older gray & white paint scheme, with a grayed-out tail-emblem. I've never found any other pix of these birds...have you?
ghodges Posted October 17, 2021 Author Report Posted October 17, 2021 (edited) What a coincidence.....I did that scheme when I built my 1/48 ID models vacuform P-3C...but I had to paint the bird on the tail, as there are no 1/48 P-3 decal sheets! GIL Edited October 17, 2021 by ghodges 1

ghodges Posted October 19, 2021 Author Report Posted October 19, 2021 About 2.5ft....just a bit bigger than a 1/48 B-17 or B-24. Gil
VMF211 Posted October 20, 2021 Report Posted October 20, 2021 WOW!!!! Both of those are stunning, well done!
