campingramps Posted May 20, 2011 Report Posted May 20, 2011 Hello fellow modelers! My name is jim Pedersen and I live in Garner, NC. (Home of Scotty on American Idol) I am retired and have just recently returned to modeling after an absence of oh, let's say A LONG TIME. I am one of those '50's and '60's modelers. Remember? AMT and Johan cars and a lot of ships. Back then it was buy the kit, build it and the heck with detail. I had quite a few white cars sitting around. I returned to modeling about 6 or 7 months ago after standing in my garage and looking at all the models I have taking up space. First one I grabbed was my Curtis Jenny and I was hooked. Have built 12 aircraft since then. Now, I know you'll say '12 in only 7 months?' well it wasn't until the 11th one that I found this sight and Modeling Madness and I realized I am way off base. I hope to pick up some good tips and advice and, hopefully, my models will, eventually, be show pieces. Hope to 'talk' to you guys in the future. Thanks for listening and Good Modeling.
Mark Aldrich Posted May 20, 2011 Report Posted May 20, 2011 (edited) Jim, Welcome!!! Can't wait to see some of your builds. Mark Edited May 20, 2011 by Mark Aldrich
campingramps Posted May 20, 2011 Author Report Posted May 20, 2011 Thanks, Mark. May be a while before I am brave enough to post anything. The ones I have built are no where near the quality of the ones I have seen you guys build. They are Amazing! I may post my PBY or Stuka since they are my best but don't hold your breath. Thanks again.
Mark Deliduka Posted May 20, 2011 Report Posted May 20, 2011 Hey Jim, I consider myself a Little League player on a very Big League field, but I still post mine. You may not feel you are in the league at all, but there's no reason to be embarrassed or ashamed of your work. We all started the same place. Heck, I'm barely past the starting block myself! Welcome to the Forums. You will learn alot from everyone here, and it'll also be fun!
Mark Aldrich Posted May 20, 2011 Report Posted May 20, 2011 Woooaaahhhh.....We are all model builders. We are all in this for the hobby (having fun)(well me anyways)! I post because I like to share, but I also like hearing what other people think. I post on other websites too and many times, fellow modelers have caught something I missed or did wrong. That is what it is all about! Never be afraid that your model is not worthy! The only way to get better is to continue to build, ask questions, learn and apply! ENJOY!!!!!!
campingramps Posted May 20, 2011 Author Report Posted May 20, 2011 Hey, Mark thanks for the encouragement. I have already picked up quite a bit of information from this site that I am currently applying. I will say one thing, my painting of canopies and other glass frames has greatly improved almost to the point of awesome! And I have also learned that I must SLOW DOWN! I tend to get impatient and that leads to bad builds. But it IS fun. Will post some photos for, I hope, helpful critiques. Woooaaahhhh.....We are all model builders. ghodges Posted May 21, 2011 Report Posted May 21, 2011 Your last sentence says it all Jim! As long as you're having fun, you're doing it the right way, no matter the result with the model. Learn as much as you want, but don't feel like you HAVE to build like anyone else you see posting here. Glad to have ya aboard! GIL
JohnRatzenberger Posted May 21, 2011 Report Posted May 21, 2011 Hey, Jim -- Welcome from the coastline !!!
aAzZ09 Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 Welcome aboard, Jim, from a fellow modeler who started building kits in late 1955. I'm still at it, with a couple of very short hiatus times in between. Hope to see your work soon. Happy Modeling, Mark Fiedler (aAzZ09) IPMS# 14333
