John Heck Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 Finished my first model in quite some time. Now to keep the momentum...
Dick Montgomery Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 What a terrific effect with the mud! Great job! Now...quick! Start another kit right away!
Mark Aldrich Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 John, Excellent Work! Keep it up. Have the "Duke" rub some of his momentum onto you! Mark
Ron Bell Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 I hope it went together easier than their 1/72 scale version. It was amazing. No two parts fit together. That is if you could figure out from the instructions what two pieces actually went together.

John Heck Posted April 6, 2010 Author Report Posted April 6, 2010 I hope it went together easier than their 1/72 scale version. It was amazing. No two parts fit together. That is if you could figure out from the instructions what two pieces actually went together. It was a decent fit. The details were soft in some areas and the hull is allegedly a full .25 inch too short. For me the biggest problem was the universal mold offset. This caused all the small bits to be out of round. The antenna mounts on the 103 were articulated and not included. This made swiping them from other kits problematic. But for eight bucks It was a fun ride. I am currently defiling the Trumpeter (not-Trumpy) C1 Ariete with applique armor. It is quite an improvement on the 103 kit in all areas, except for Swedishness. John
Mark Deliduka Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 That is great John! Awesome job. I am also building this tank as well in 1/72 scale. So far I haven't had the fit issues that Ron mentioned; mine has been coming together quite well. Congrats once again on a superb model.
MikeMoore Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 Really nice overall, but I'd have to agree with Dick...nice job with the pigments, especially the fade from wet mud to dry dust. Mike Moore
John Heck Posted April 9, 2010 Author Report Posted April 9, 2010 Really nice overall, but I'd have to agree with Dick...nice job with the pigments, especially the fade from wet mud to dry dust. Mike Moore Thanks Mike. It's actually all paint. John
MikeMoore Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 Thanks Mike. It's actually all paint. John All righty then, in that case, how'd you do it? I've had Tamiya acrylics get a little gritty when they start drying before they hit the model, but I don't think I've ever seen paint THAT gritty! Mike

Yes I did add stuff to the paint - textured and non-textured gel medium and crushed tea for a used tea bag. I then pained the light and dark sections. John
TimHortman Posted April 11, 2010 Report Posted April 11, 2010 Great work John! Thanks for sharing. Love the mud!
