  1. Vellejo paint retarder is what you need I paint exclusively with acrylics for the same reason you do wife doesn't like the smell of enamels , there are some tricks to paint retarder thoe don't use the bottle amount of retarder put drops on to your personal preference also paint retarder thickens paint so be sure to leave room in your paint cup for extra thinner . paint retarder for acrylics solves many problems it keeps it fromndrying in your airbrush , makes paint stay wetter longer for hand paint and when it slows the drying process I gets rid of a problem I had a long time getting figured out rough unrealistic bumpy paint . that's about it you can find it on amazon I have a 60 ml bottle I bought a few years ago and I am not even half threw it it does not take much . welcome back to the hobby and have fun .
  2. Oh my I think my heart just skipped a beat when I saw this it looks real.
  3. Thanks to both you guys for the comments and to ewahl I really don't know the kit box was pretty torn up and the directions didn't say and I thought adding the dent to the fender was a nice touch to thanks for noticing I am around a lot of farm trucks and there always pretty dented .
  4. Hey guys i have been waiting for some paint for my bigger model so i decided to build another thrift store pickup it is a ford old style truck i painted and weathered to be a farm truck the kit was easy only took me three days but it had 2 pieces missing the tailgate and a metal logo but it was a fun build, i dont normally build cars or trucks but for 2 bucks who could resist here it is any criticism is appreciated .
  5. Some of you guys requested more of my brothers work so here it is a topspin repaint from transformers 3 , before pictures are on top of after pictures .

  7. Acidently hit post continuing I will pay the prices if I have to but it would be nice if it was cheaper .
  8. Wow ! This topic has gotten big and I am gonna take off track, a bit I agree with almost all of you guys but there is some stuff I am going to bring up, here I go one of the people who posted to this forum said he would spend 300-400 dollars for a 1:48 scale b-17 from tamiya dam go big or go home I guess and if you have that ability go for it but as for me I can't afford that the most expensive kit I have ever built was a 40 dollar tank from tamiya that I got as a gift most of the expensive stuff for the hobby I get I got over a long time like a year or two or as gifts from my extended family . after all the cost for the model I am about to build the kit ,paints ,glue etc I never spend more than 50 dollars on my hobby every couple of months because thats all I can afford I wish I could buy the metal tracks or aftermarket equipment but if my wife found out I spent our bill money on that stuff she would kill me. And I am always I the mood for a deal we shop at thrift stores for allot of our clothes you find a lot of good stuff I keep a eye out for models or stuff I could use for modeling, I found a ship for 5 dollars with all the peices I bought it took it home looked it up it originally a 80 dollar model for five dollars
  9. I read these forum post on the airfix forum and one guy hit right on the head about how modeling is a self taught hobby and nobody is teaching the newbie the basics . I started modeling five years ago when I got into model building I knew nothing about it I didn't know how fill seam lines , applying glue without making a mess or adding decals the first model I did was a piper super cub and it looked bad I did eventually improve by my third model it looked presentable but nothing close to what I'm building now the only way I learned was trial and error. when I joined this forum about a year ago my skills improved dramatically it helped a lot when I could ask questions of more experienced modelers find new techniques and tips . the sad thing is the only way I heard about IPMS was I happens to bump into a older modeler while at hobby lobby who was building the titanic I showed him some pictures of my models he showed me his we got to talkin and he mentioned this forum long story short here I am. we should try to find and get new modelers to join this maybe give a discount or join up with hobby shops to get emails of people who are buying modeling stuff to send them a invitation and maybe some tips from the forum needless to say we need to try as hard as we can to get younger people to star this hobby or in a 100 years it might not exist anymore .
  10. Hairspray chipping looks great how did you get that effect with it I must be doing it wrong.
  11. You can usually email testors or humbrol ask them to match the color tell them the paint you are looking for is the tamiya brand and add the fx number and they will tell the name of the paint they have that matches or a close match it has always worked for me hopes this helps
  12. OK where did you get the metal barrels I might try this
  13. I see what you guys mean and the fenders looked great on both a question for Mr Aldrich what is the metal barrel on your model for how come you don't use the kit barrel and how do you make sure its in scale.
  14. Thanks for the awesome tips and i would like to see some of your battle damaged models if you don't mind posting pictures.
  15. Hey guys I was looking at models recently online and I have seen some with battle damage they look really good I have tried to practice on a older model but it came out lookin like crap so any tips on how to make realistic battle damage on tanks , planes and ships would help .
  16. Thanks gil I was hesitant to make them muddy as much as I did I usually only add a light dusting of dirt but I thought what the hell there grunts they get down and dirty . Thanks for the comments I like crticism in any way it helps me know what I could do better.

  20. My father was a navy corman and was attached to a marine mortar platoon so he gave me alot of help in how to set them up and how they operated. Thanks for the comments I dont know any other modelers so it nice to have other modelers to judge my models any criticism is appreciated.
  21. Wow !!! Okay I dont mean to sound rude and I really appreciate your help but you just tried to explain physics to a chimp ( me being the chimp) this really goes over my head is there anyway you could shrink this down into how to photograph models for dummies type thing . The camera I use is a fujifilm very expensive digital camera my wife got for Christmas one year neither me nor my wife really know how to use it I wasnt really raised around technology all that much so the camera mainly gets used for mh models and pictures of our pigs :-)
  22. Hey there guys I mainly take picturs of my models in natural light I think it looks better especially if you can angle it to make your background look like it matches but it tends to you hide some detail anything I could do differently if so could you give me some help .
