Hey guys I need any tips you can give me on building ,painting and weathering wooden a steel plastic model ships.

hey guys i recently picked up a revell yatch america for a good price only problem is i have never built a ship before i usually build planes and armor so any tips on ships would help note the ship is made of so keep in mind with tips i need wooden ship not steel.

Well here it is a very small kit that has taken me three months a tamiya 1:35 scale german mortar team i really enjoyed this kit it was the first time i really took the time to appreciate and enjoy the time it took to build and paint figures , I am a novice at painting figures this is really the first figures i have attempted to take my time on and do right it took alotta help from you guys at the forum and school of youtube [ a name my family thought up because we learn how to do alott of things from youtube ] but i now finally have it done and the faces which were the hardest part for me because i have genetically shaky hands [ dad has it and grandad had it ] came out fairly good if i do say so myself . Here is a brief outline of what the story is behind this dio it is France 1940 one year before the americans entered the war the french were getting hit hard with the germans blitzkrieg tactic, a german mortar platoon hiking threw a field on there way to the front when they hear a voice over the radio from a forward scout sniper radioing in coordinates of a large enemy troop movement of 200 plus foot soldiers to there south the platoon sergeant grabs his map to see if there in range ... only a mile and a half to the targets he orders a quick setup of the four mortars under his command, one mortar crew sights in and fires one mortar to check there aim ... slightly off the scout sniper radios in new instructions ... again one round goes towards the target a brief silence and then they hear the scout sniper over the radio say direct hit FIRE FOR AFFECT.

I recently got revel yatch america an eightybdollar kit I got for five bucks and its still had all its peices.

Could it be a German model

Thanks for all your tips I have one question that no one seemed to say anything about ... How do you build city scenes ( Stalingrad,Berlin and various others ) how do y'all build buildings ,walls ,streets, bricks, metel fences and rubble any tips would help .

It sounds like there is a lota of these sterotypes and there not all not true !

Hey guys I am kinda a loner so not many people know I'm a modeler and seem quite surprised when they find out where I work they brought on some new workers andand over the course of about a month I was trying to get to know them , well the subject got brought up of hobbies and started talking there hobbies ( working on cars , rally car racing, hunting etc ) and it rolled around to me I told I built plastic model kit ... They looked surprised one of them spoke up and said you don't look like the kind of guy who does that, well I asked what a modeler is supposed to look like, most of them said a 80 year old man some said hurmitt ,odd or eccentric personality and a perfectonist I'm only 2 out of 4 a hurmitt I usually only go to work and an perfectonist . what your guys thoughts and opinions on where these stereotypes are coming from .

How do you build and paint them so fast

Sometimes they don't put up all the paints they have on there website so if you email them with the paint name and fs number you could find out what you want to know pretty easily .

thanks Neal I will probably use rubbing alcohol i already have it around the house thanks to everybody who replied to this topic it was a great help .

I will probably buy some tamiya paints and use tamiya and model master one quistion Tho I have always thin model master with just plain water and it always works great can you thin tamiya paints with plain water to take in mind I'm only a ranch hand and don't have a lot of money so don't recommend very expensive products if water won't work.

Hey guys I always use acrylic and lean towards model master for its color accuracy ,but they don't have the biggest selection paints I can't find anything on there new website and there customer service stinks so I was thinking about switching to tamiya acrylics but I would like some information before hand about rthe differences between them , are the tamiya paints historically accurate , are they more expensive than model master, do they have a bigger selection of colors and are they harder to find thanks .

Gil they are kit decals just not from the corsair kits I save all the decals I don't use so I got online and was able to find out what markings were on the black sheep squadron so I was able to piece together different decals and letters I saved from older models to give it the markings you see on the model . to Jim deck it is a good model but like you said it was very tough to put together the fuselage halves didn't fit right so it took some time and a whole lotta seam filling to make it fit . thanks for your comments.

hey guys i have finally finished my corsair with the work on the ranch taken up so much of my time have not been able to work on my model all that much but its finally finished and it depicts a corsair fighter bomber of the famous black sheep squadron in the korean war . it has some new techniques including hairspray chipping pastels and airbrush fading a real fun model hope you guys like it

Hey guys , I was reading the article in the new ipms magazine on the tamiya corsair and I read a part in the article and it talked about spraying hairspray over a area to chip it , I have never heard of this technique and would love to know how to do it advice would be very helpful. Thanks

Hello welcome , I get what your saying about time for modeling I work as a ranch hand we work 6 days a week and 10 and 12 hours a day sometimes more , I have been working on a 1:48 scale corsair for 2 months and just now got the fuselage together , anyway happy to have you aboard .
