Has there ever been a list off all Nats Contest Results by year?
-
Denny Trimble and I were going to the Dayton Nationals back in the late 80's, and a chapter member asked me to take his 1/48 Apache with me to enter. No prob. He packed it, I made sure it was handled safely. Two flights later, and upon getting to our room, I found the Apache had a Hellfire knocked off a launch rail. I'd brought my tool box, and very carefully super glued the missile back on the rail, called the owner to let him know what happened. He appreciated what I was able to do. He was more appreciating later when it took 1st in class!

Efforts toward a west coast Nats
Gromit801 replied to SoupDoctor's topic in About the IPMS/USA National Convention
Frankly I'm surprised Sacramento bid again after the 86 nationals. They were raked over the coals publicly as soon as the convention was awarded, by Scale Modeler (vested interest), and lambasted again after the convention, even Gil got in a shot at the beginning of the thread. Chapters that will keep trying, is what we need. -
Actually my biggest model oops had nothing to do with a busted kit. It was the time I was carving on a piece, the #11 Xacto blade jumped. 11 stitches and a 4 inch scar later...

Lamenting the dearly departed in the Sacramento area: Hobbytown Highlands Hobbies (The best) The Toy Shop

Nicely done!

Since knowing what I was doing? The 1/48 Academy FB-111. In fact I gave a pretty scathing review of it in Update or Journal years ago. Horribly inaccurate for a large kit of a subject so old, and the stupid wing sweep toy feature.

What was your first model kit to build?
Gromit801 replied to Rusty White's topic in General Modeling
One of these: -
Feels like the art of scratch building has suffered. Remember before detail parts?

My first kits came from a drug store, and then I found Hobby Town at the corner of Watt & Whitney in Sacramento. 1/72 Airfix kits for 50ยข each. My dollar a week allowance went far. A wall of models, railroad and slot car stuff at the counter. It was bicycle distance, or a good stretch of the legs.
-
Then why don't we all stop building physical, model kits, and just model them in 3D on our computers.
-
Internet stores do me no good if I want to examine the produc first, or if there's paint or other supplies I need now.

Good list, and good points Richard. Agree with Williams Brothers, and add Bandai Otaki And hundreds of local hobby shops. This isn't a golden age, that was from the 60's through the 80's.

Due to living in rentals where I either had no room for a hobby bench, or the lease had a "no flammable liquid storage" clause, I had a forced hiatus from modeling for about 20 years. I have a house, a whole room for my modeling bench and supplies, and damn! Things have changed. So many brands that were my mainstay, have vanished. Here's what I really miss: Pactra Floquil Gunze-Sangyo Aquious Micro Scale/Superscale Monogram (as an independent entity) And if I wanted to go back further, I wish Profile Publications came back, along with Quarterly and Update. What do you miss?

The last handful of eBay grabs The box is buggered, but everything inside is sound. Back to my early teens.
-
Back to topic, G and H models need not apply.
-
Better yet, eliminate the toy aspect, and I'd the wings in one position.
-
Good old Testors liquid cement should work fine for the bonding issue.
-
Latest eBay snags. The package is the Eduard masks for the Hasegawa P-3C.

Ok, getting ready to paint this thing. The instruction sheet is all Japanese, and none of the reference material I have is clear on this. Can some tell me the FS numbers for the Gray/White (light gray?) color scheme?

Hold on there my young Padawan. You cannot claim to be complete without a Tu-22, and don't go claiming that you are covered with the Tu-22M, they are not the same plane, despite what those pesky Russkies may say. You too must deal with the old Esci kit, Hahahahahapshhhhh they're practically the same thing! i've done my research... close enough for government work :-D :gold-plane: Buck buck buck bakaaaw! well... ill have you know that I went and got the Tu-22 at Blizzardcon!!!! so there.... consider the bomber set complete! Don't forget this: https://www.scalemates.com/kits/258113-landm-resin-kits-tu-22b-blinder

Gromit801 replied to ipmsusa2's topic in General Modeling
Looks great, and very timely. I have to make some custom decals for my current project.
