Great result, Adam! That old Frog kit is actually pretty good, outline-wise, if lacking a lot on the detial front! You've made a very smart job of it. And, you're welcome!

Airfix Recovery set fire engine
PaulBradley replied to Ron Bell's topic in Cars, Trucks, & Motorcycles
Great job on all your Airfixes, Ron. Just goes to show, again, that these older kits can be turned into something good with some skill and application. You and Mike Grant are showing up the rest of us! -
Good stuff, Ron!

Oops, my bad - Jim's the one who keeps the lists....!

Welcome to the club, Ron! May I take the opportunity to invite you to join the Classic British Kits SIG? http://classicbritishkitssig.blogspot.com/

What aircraft do you have the most built on the shelf?
PaulBradley replied to ghodges's topic in Aircraft
Hmmm. I have 4 1/48 Spitfires on the shelf, with about another 6-8 to build. 4 1/72 Airfix Hawks, plus a Fujimi, all built. Of course, I have a total of 11 Hunters, ranging from 1/32 to 1/144, on display....... ;) 5 Canberras in various scales, plue one on the workbench at the moment. Scarily, I have 4 1/24 Airfix Spitfires in my stash - I have no idea when I'll build them!! I like British aircraft..... :D -
Looking for: 1/72 C-Scale Westland Wasp/Scout Conversion sets

You're welcome, Adam! I look forward to seeing photos of the completed model, and your Wessex for that matter! :) -
Looking for: 1/72 C-Scale Westland Wasp/Scout Conversion sets
PaulBradley replied to Scooter's topic in Aircraft
Mike's right - they are as rare as hen's teeth nowadays. However, all is not lost. I'll refer you to Model Aircraft Monthly, Vol. 6 No. 6, which has an article on how to convert the Airfix Scout to a Wasp using plastic card and rod, along with the Airwaves Scout/Wasp detail set. Airwaves also does vacform Scout and Wasp canopies - each is different. Those are available from Hannants. MAM 6/6 is still available as a back issue, for 3.50 GB Pounds, from the SAMI website: http://www.sampublications.com/frames/mam_backissue_in_f.htm Hope this helps! -
I'd advise caution - they always seem to be on the verge of going out of business. Their publication dates seem to slip a lot and I've heard from some folks that their customer service leaves a lot to be desired.

Nice one, Adam!

Well, if you can't come to a decision, send it to me. :P Smaller box than I'd imagined - I can't imagine the parts rattling around in there, unlike some manufacturers' kits.....
-
Try Aeroclub - they do a wide variety of props, as well as engines.

Many thanks to John for his efforts - he garnered many nice comments about the Whitley and Swordfish in particular! To add to Gil's point, I really hope that IPMS/USA finds space for more displays at future conventions. There was far more participation from IPMS/UK Branches and SIGs than in the competition. While the old doom and gloom arguments that "the US is much bigger" and "its tough to carry models on aeroplanes" are true to a certain extent, it is the will and enthusiasm of the individual modellers that can overcome these difficulties. I carried 10 models with me to Britain for the show, all for display; others made other arrangements to ensure their models were there. It can be done. As for CBK/USA, I'm still catching up from my trip, but I'll be reviving the blog shortly and we can start making our plans for Phx. I thought we'd agreed that we'd have "no theme" (though it will be organized), but I'm open to suggestions. :)

Thanks everyone, very helpful. Well, except Jim of course.... You naughty, naughty Canuckian! Just for that, I'll do it in Australian colours...!
-
So, I acquired one of these for a tenner. Looks good in the box, but what's the scoop on accuracy and build?
-
Another great Blitzbau finish, John. You guys REALLY ought to try this out - it's very theraputic and liberating to build a model like this, purely for the challenge and the sheer fun. We can all get bogged down with super-detailing and looking for perfection - this is the ultimate anti-AMS tonic. Take a look at some of the other builds there: http://gregers.7.forumer.com/viewforum.php?f=197 Sure, none of them are going to win any contests, but that's not the point by a long chalk. This is modelling for fun - remember that...?

Hey Gilbert, I can't answer your questions (You are talking about an Amurrican plane after all...), but I'll show you the Airfix F-111A I have when you come over on Sunday........ :o
-
...and a relatively inexpensive, relatively accurate 1/32 Spitfire series (The best fighter of WWII) wouldn't go amiss either!
-
True, but then there would be this to replicate...
-
Nuts! Missed the Herc! Nice shots Gilbert - here's some I took earlier in the day:

That's a New World Record for an Out Of The Blue answer...... Time!

C'mon over and see Jeff's build thread at: http://gregers.7.forumer.com/viewtopic.php...&highlight= Always instructive to see the background behind a model. Nice one, Jeff, and thanks for sharing!

Tempest Tailplanes On The 1/48 Monogram Typhoon? Help!
PaulBradley replied to Fred's topic in Aircraft
Fred, my apologies; it's CHRIS Thomas, not Andy Thomas, who you'll not be surprised to learn, is someone else entirely. -
Nice one, Jeff! The great thing about many of these old Airfix (and Frog and Matchbox) kits is that you can pick them up really inexpensively at shows. Modelling doesn't HAVE to be expensive!
