Welcome aboard Bob.

Again Very nicely done. Thanks for sharing this. Chris

Love it! Humor in modeling is always great. Love the little details in the dio. like the gram cracker box. Good job. Chris

Ken, Thanks, I will be posting as I go along. This week I have been very busy at work so not much progress to report. Gary, I usually use putty to add zimmerit. Edaurd had this set for the Tamiya kit. I have never used PE zimmerit before so I just had to try. Make sure that you have a good vented space when applying the PE. The large sections of PE require a lot of CA glue and I almost passed out from the vapors. Burns the eyes too. I do like the product. The scale is pretty close to scale. Something that is hard to achieve with putty. There are some areas that still require putty. The joints were the sheets of PE come togther and several spots around the Gun mantel. The large section of PE that had to be applied around the turret was a pain in the butt. Use lots of clamps. Overall I am really happy so far. The next test is to see how it looks painted up. Will post more soon. Chris

Don, Welcome aboard! Lets see, you have a 200+ kit collection, your model output is limited per year, you love research and history, you built models as a kid, took a break from it, and have returned with a new love and enjoyment for the hobby in your mid to later years. Yep you will fit in very nicely. Glad to have you aboard. I do hope that the few kits in you collection that are not aircraft are Armour . If you need anything, just ask. This is a great site and organization to be a part of. Lots of great people here more then willing to help out. Enjoy, Chris Graeter

Welcome Aboard George! Glad to have you.

Your doing a really nice job for somebody that doesn't know what they are doing,

Thanks, I just noticed from my pictures that I installed the commanders MG mount backwards. Will need to fix that. I may just improve it and make it out of brass rod. The shackels, barrel, MG barrels, Tow cable resin/wire come from JB Models. Here is a link. http://www.jbmodel.eu/
-
Since I was appling the PE zimmerit, I went ahead and continued on to the turret. The barrel is a Four piece turned aluminum and brass set from JB models. I did have to add putty in some areas were the zimmerit goes that was not covered by the PE.
-
Yep, to late. I have never used the Atak zimmerit. Will have to try it. Thanks Chris

Ok here is the Hull started. I have applied the Eduard PE zimmerit and have started to apply some of the PE as well as the kit parts. No real fit problems so far. I did have to scratch build the wire for the headlight. Also note the shackels. They work like the real thing. Bolt goes thru and the nut threads on. Pretty Neat.

This is a tip that was on Track licks by Jim Wechsler. JIm hope you do not mind if I post this here, but this tip is to good to not share. Thanks, Chris Graeter Taking a Bath I’m sure that those of you who have built resin kits and conversions know this trick. But for those of you who haven’t, I highly recommend you soak the resin parts in a bath of hot water (just below boiling). As you can see, I stole one of my wife’s baking trays and filled it using the kitchen sink’s instant hot. Alternatively, you can bring a pot of water to a boil, wait a couple minutes and then dump in all the resin. Then I will simply let it cool to room temperature. After that, I’ll take out all the parts and let them dry. Why do this? Simple, it’s quite common for resin castings to warp a bit as they are removed from the mold. But most resins have ‘memory’ of the original shape and if you heat them up and let them cool, a lot of the warping will go away. I don’t know if there is any warping in these parts but I’ve found it to be a good idea to do this regardless. It’s a small time sacrifice to avoid a bigger hassle later.

Hi everyone, This is my latest build on the bench. I thought that it would be fun to share the progress of the build as it progresses. The kit is the 1/35 scale Tamyia Tiger-I, I'm building the "late" version. Will be adding PE, PE zimmerit, Turned metal Barriel and MG's, and lots of other stuff. Ok here we go>

This just happened to me last week. I usually use just a small amout of CA glue when I attach PE parts. Well this time I was attaching large PE zimmerit parts and need to use a lot of CA glue at one time. The burning of the eyes was not the bad part (hurt like hell), it was the fact that I almosted passed out holding the parts in place while they dried and having to lean over the stuff (CA glue) until then. Learned my lesson! Oh and the cuts with the #11 X-acto knife over the years, the memories of being on a tube glue high when I was younger, all that too. -
Ok here is my current booth. It's made of wood not cardboard. Bathroom vent fan vented to outside. Rigged with lighting.
-
Henry, Before I had my model room, this was how i spray painted. Try this! Get a card board box. Buy a cheap bathroom vent fan at a home improvement store. Cut a hole in the top of the box and mount the fan. Tee off of your dryer vent with a dryer hose that will be attached to the fan vent. For power have the vent wired so that you can just plug it into and outlet. Its a little work but it works. Hope this helps. Chris

NOW That is a beautifyly said statement. Modeling, Burbon, Scotch, Diarama's, Perfect, and no mention about a stinken plane. Now I have to admit that when I was little I did build a plane once. I was able to resist the powers of the dark side and return to the heavenly world of armour. It was a dark period in my life, I don't like to talk about it much. :( Seriouly, Build whatever that makes you enjoy yourself and this wonderful hobby. Truth is I have been around planes more in my life then AFV. I know that I'm going to hear it for this, but building a plane, ship, or whatever does help build on your skills and gives you a better understanding of the different methods and skills that go into building different types of models. Enjoy,
-
Ah Mark you bring up a bad subject about the track. I used the kits indivisual links track. What a pain in the A#%*. There were times that I truely almost smashed this thing against the wall because of those dam tracks. Never again will I use them. The kit is a good kit other then the tracks. If someone has this kit or is going to get it, I highly recommend buying aftermarket tracks. Beleive me for your own well being , do it!!

Gary, Your in the Armour forum! Slow down with the try everything stuff, a.k.a. ships and planes. Try something like this, " Yes you have mad modeling skiills and I would love to see you try say a Russian AFV or a middle east country AFV, or a far east country AFV". But a PLANE!!! Yikes!!!
-
Gary, Welcome aboard. Glad to have ya. What do you like to build? Armour I hope. Chris
-
Duke, I agree, there is a simple yet very brute look to this AFV. I like all the different looks in this line of AFV, a.K.a. BMP-2, BMP-3, etc.. The russian got this one right. Glad you liked this one. Not a big selection for the BMP-1 in 1/35 scale. Chris
