ghodges Posted June 19, 2011 Report Posted June 19, 2011 Dangit .....I was expecting to see one built and posted here...... GIL
Mark Aldrich Posted June 19, 2011 Author Report Posted June 19, 2011 Gil, Me too. I can't find a build review....only First looks!
dhenning Posted June 19, 2011 Report Posted June 19, 2011 http:\\modelingmadness.com/reviews/mod/us/usaf/stewc17.htm I think that Finescale Modeler has a build up review as well. Still haven't started mine, but had the article nearby.
Mark Aldrich Posted June 20, 2011 Author Report Posted June 20, 2011 Revell of Germany make a nice kit! The plane (even in 1/144) is huge! I love the fact that they made the Fuselage in two pieces and it appears that there is a inner secondary fuselage as well. Might help in support. The best part was it actually comes with decals for a McChord (or as it is now called JBLM) plane. Was worried I would have to have someone make decals for me. Will be getting started here shortly!
Mark Aldrich Posted June 21, 2011 Author Report Posted June 21, 2011 Dangit .....I was expecting to see one built and posted here...... GIL Gil, Find a corgo type plane and join the group build. We can build them together!!
Ron Bell Posted June 21, 2011 Report Posted June 21, 2011 1/144?! Gil, I was sure you were going to wait for the Combat Models 1/32 scale kit.
Mark Deliduka Posted June 21, 2011 Report Posted June 21, 2011 I'm waiting for the 1/72 scale kit. The resin one is far too expensive for this old boy...
Mark Aldrich Posted June 21, 2011 Author Report Posted June 21, 2011 Duke, This baby is like 2 feet long nose to tail. Haven't measures it out yet but I will NEVER be able to transport it safely with out it's own box!
ChrisjpB Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 You are tempting me to pull out my kit and join you. I'm building the 1/144 Revell Germany C-121C Connie at this time but could probably find the room to start the C-17 too. I was in aircraft maintenance for 18 years finishing my last four on the C-17 before I retired in 2000. If I can help in anyway please let me know.
Mark Aldrich Posted June 28, 2011 Author Report Posted June 28, 2011 Chris, Jump down to the Group build. The connie fits the bill as as a cargo plane!
ChrisjpB Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 Mark, What I didn't say was I am modifying the C-121C to make a RC-121D which my Dad flew in as a radar operator in the late fifties. When I am done it will represent the type of aircraft he served on when he was assigned to the 551st AEW&Con Wing, Otis AFB, Massachusetts. It won't fit the cargo plane group build. Out of curiosity, what is your affiliation with the C-17?
Mark Aldrich Posted June 28, 2011 Author Report Posted June 28, 2011 Chris, Wow.....That brought back memories! My Dad was stationed (Me too) at Dow AFB. Did a Lot of time in my younger years with the FIS in very cold places! My affiliation with the C-17 is that my Grand Daughters Father crews on the C-17 here at McChord. Or as it is now called JBLM! Mark
ewahl Posted July 10, 2011 Report Posted July 10, 2011 Last week in Salzburg, Austria, I entered a toy store and found a few shelves with RoG kits and paints and tools. They had a C-17 in Qutar and UK marking choices in a different box from the USAF C-17A. At 28 Euros and a box I could not transport in my baggage, I had to take a pass. I also saw the C-121C kit there, which I have yet to see here in the US. The big surprise, however, was seeing an RoG kit of the brand new Boeing 787 in 1/144 scale. Same problems--too expensive and too big a box. Ed
