ghodges Posted April 28, 2014 Report Posted April 28, 2014 Terrific looking T-bolt! Did you paint the checks, or are they decals? GIL
aAzZ09 Posted April 29, 2014 Author Report Posted April 29, 2014 Many thanks! I painted them Gil. That job alone took 25 hours masking and painting. I always liked the T-Bolts of the 78th Fighter Group with their distinctive "checkerboards" on the cowling. Sometimes, I like to see how far I can go on an old kit. Best, Mark
mightymax Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 Mark I would say you took that one all the way on that finish. Just beautiful! Max Bryant
aAzZ09 Posted May 9, 2014 Author Report Posted May 9, 2014 Thank you Max. I'm working on another old Monogram kit right now, an F-86 Sabre. I hope it turns out as planned. Best, Mark Mark I would say you took that one all the way on that finish. Just beautiful! Max Bryant
WildBill50 Posted May 9, 2014 Report Posted May 9, 2014 Hey Mark, What was used on the natural metal. I like the finish along with the cowling. Nice job. Bill
dmorrissette Posted May 10, 2014 Report Posted May 10, 2014 Very cool. I loved checkered cowlings Dave
aAzZ09 Posted May 22, 2014 Author Report Posted May 22, 2014 Thank you Gil, Dave and Bill for your nice comments. Bill: I used Testors Model Master Aluminizers on the finish, Non-buffing and buffing aluminum, with Dark Anodonic Gray for the propeller hub center (and the landing gear) mixed with aluminum for the spinner half, with Magnesium for the some of the panels here and there. Masking tape didn't hurt it as it did for the old Liq-A-Plate I used many years ago for a P-51D Mustang. I'm trying Alclad II Metalizers for an F-86 I'm working on now. I hope to have some pictures ready soon. Best, Mark
