Revell B-47

This build came about because I watched the old movie "Strategic Air Command" with Jimmy Stewart. I wanted a B-47 but not a major project like the old Hasagawa 1/72 kit. I found the old, read 1953, Revell kit as a Revell Germany special re-release and plunked down for it. Well, I got what I didn't want, a project. The kit shows every bit of its age. very poor fit, little to no detail, raised decal locators, etc, etc. I decided that it was only suitable as a desk model like you'd see in the background of some officer's office in a movie. It didn't come with the traditional Revell swivel stand so I had to out source that from Atlantis. After filing, sanding, puttying, priming, re-sanding, re-primering, again and again, it didn't turn out all that bad for a desk model. The most amazing part was the decals. They were some of the best I have ever used. Easy to handle, settled down, no silvering. Great stuff. If you look closely at the one photo, you can see I painted the blob simulating the first pilot to look like Jimmy Stewart. 😉 And by the way, he really was certified to fly the B-47.

That's certainly looks better than it should with what you get in the box! Nice build of a great plane and an appropriate tribute to Gen James Stewart!
