MikeH Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 After a 4 month hiatus from building, my basement is now complete and I can start building once again! (insert BIG happy dance here!) Here's my latest project -
Mark Aldrich Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 Mike, Is that the happy Panda dance or the "my porridge is just right dance"? Mark
MikeH Posted August 6, 2009 Author Report Posted August 6, 2009 Mike, Is that the happy Panda dance or the "my porridge is just right dance"? Mark The HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY, Phineas & Ferb title sequence dance!!!
JayMesawitz Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 I look forward to see some progress. Any aftermarket goodies?
MikeH Posted August 6, 2009 Author Report Posted August 6, 2009 I look forward to see some progress. Any aftermarket goodies? Nope. Just box stock and ready to rock. I'm a sadist in that I love decaling for some reason. I've got a Skyline GTR racer that I have the aftermarket goodies for. The Porsche just spoke to me this time.
MikeH Posted August 9, 2009 Author Report Posted August 9, 2009 After a couple hours tonight, the body got sanded, primed, and a single coat of paint left in the can. Now I have to wait for the other two can's to arrive at my LHS. I also liquid masked the wheels and shot the gold spokes. Oh, I also managed to snap the front grille sections while cleaning it for primer. <_< It just feels really good to have my work bench up and running again and a paint booth vented to the out doors so I can paint inside with out having windows open etc.
MattLeBlanc Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 Those wheels look great. The car ain't bad either!!
JayMesawitz Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 So your a paint the body first guy... I always leave it to last. I've tried to go the other way but it never happens. She looks good so far. One question...What is your preference for liquid mask? I'll be here for the rest of the build.
MikeH Posted August 10, 2009 Author Report Posted August 10, 2009 So your a paint the body first guy... I always leave it to last. I've tried to go the other way but it never happens. She looks good so far. One question...What is your preference for liquid mask? I'll be here for the rest of the build. Yup. Paint the body first. I've ALWAYS - even in my youth - assembled the wheels first and/or painted the body. Essentially it's inspiration to complete everything. As for preference of liquid mask, I like the stuff I bought at the LHS a couple years ago - "Liquid Masking Film" distributed by Bob Dively Model Aircraft Inc. It takes a while to dry, but works flawlessly in my experience.
David M. Knights Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 I love that car. Can't wait to see it done.
MikeH Posted August 11, 2009 Author Report Posted August 11, 2009 Well, here's what last night and tonight yielded. I've still got quite a bit of painting and washes to apply, but it's a start.
JayMesawitz Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 So far so good. At this pace you will be done in no time. I see that you have some of those cosmetic cotton swabs; pointy on one end flat on the other...They usually dont fray as quickly either but a little rigid.
Guest Bun E. Carlos Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 ANOTHER "BAD ASS" Car build!!!!!! I'll be watchin'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TimHortman Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 Wow - great job so far! I'm looking forward to seeing it finished!
MikeH Posted August 12, 2009 Author Report Posted August 12, 2009 Thank you for the kind words and encouragement guys. The rear chassis and engine reprisentation are done and a quick mock up...
Mark Aldrich Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 Mike, Can I get you to come over and paint my 1/1 96 Eclipse? No work needed......just paint. Mark
MikeH Posted August 12, 2009 Author Report Posted August 12, 2009 Mike, Can I get you to come over and paint my 1/1 96 Eclipse? No work needed......just paint. Mark Thanks for the compliment. Photography hides blemishes. I've got a few more coats to go on yet and sand.
MikeH Posted August 16, 2009 Author Report Posted August 16, 2009 I got time during the rainy afternoon to finish the interior.
MikeH Posted August 18, 2009 Author Report Posted August 18, 2009 It's not the best build I've ever done, but a great little project to get back in to the swing of things after 4 months off. The decals are Tamiya and I suspect they won't be the Cartograph quality I've become accustomed to. It's going to be a shelf model anyway, so if there's a blemish or three it won't be a big deal. LOL Thanks for following along.
MikeH Posted August 20, 2009 Author Report Posted August 20, 2009 All done. A fast project to get me back in the swing of things after a 4 month hiatus. The decals weren't bad. The problem children were the red strips on the front spoiler, the mirrors, and around the rear fin ducts. CoolBoss
JayMesawitz Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 Well done Mike. She looks more comfortable in her livery. (I don't know what that means) Our club theme this month is OOTB, can I borrow it next Thursday? Thanks for sharing. It's posts like this that keep some of us going.
