  1. Joe, Keep in mind that the only things we know for sure are as follows: The Rustoleum/Model Master online catalog that I listed in the post that started this thread is the latest documented list of MM available colors that I'm aware of. Hobby Lobby has virtually eliminated MM enamels, but still have a wide range of Acryl colors. Hobby Town...at least in my location...carries all of the MM enamels, but every time you check the paint aisle there are more "discontinued" stickers. Also, Hobby Town...as do most if not all brick and mortar hobby retailers...order their paint from distributors such as Stevens International. If the distributors don't carry it, chain store retailers like Hobby Lobby and Hobby Town can't get it. This is, of course, not a 100% rule, especially where the resin/photoetch/decal aftermarket and paint manufacturers such as Tru-Color and Tru-North is concerned. Robert's post re:Rustoleum selling Testors & Model Master to PPG has yet to be confirmed. Finally, your stash may not last your lifetime. Chemical changes...generally forced by the EPA...have resulted in many paints going bad in the bottle before you ever open it. Someone at Hobby Lobby told me that they have paint that goes bad on the shelf before they can sell it. I, personally, have bought three or four bottles recently of MM flat black and had one or two go bad in the bottle before I had a chance to open it. Conversely, I have paint that I use on occasion that is anywhere from 30 to 50 years old and the stuff is still good. What paint brands? The earlier Model Master, small square bottle Testors and the late, lamented Pactra Scale Flats. Also the original formula Floquil.
  2. I can't find anything either, but it wouldn't surprise me. Keep in mind that Testors/Model Master is a very small cog in the RPM International wheel. RPM is a holding company that aggressively deals in acquisitions of other companies. Today, they also are rather aggressive regarding the disposal of companies under their umbrella that are underperforming. Put another way, it's all about financial performance. The goal today is to keep the shareholders happy, pay high dividends and maximize profits.
  3. And I would suggest that is the way it should be. On the Nationals level...heck, on almost any level...failure to drill out a gun barrel or automotive tailpipe is definitely not trivial. Picky, yes, but realistically, rationally picky.
  4. Robin, you're correct. Monogram produced a 1/48th B-24J during the 80s and it is still a very good kit. Shep Paine did a series of color sheets for a number of Monogram kits at that time and the B-24 was one of them. That's why I'm hoping someone has a scrapped or unwanted built kit that still has the canopy so I can finish this metal B-24 for my client and get it back to him.
  5. Thanks for the info. I'll check it out, though I still would like to acquire an injected canopy from the Monogram kit, mainly because the B-24 I'm working on is metal.
  6. Hi all, In the process of repainting and remarking a metal 1/48th B-24J, I discovered that a critical part is missing as the result of a burglary. The cockpit canopy. I'm assuming the canopy from a Monogram 1/48th B-24J would fit, so... If anyone has a scrapped Monogram B-24J that still has an intact canopy, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Don't need the rest of the model, just the canopy. Willing to pay a reasonable price. Richard
  7. You're getting just slightly ahead of yourself. 2020 is in San Marcos, Texas. Las Veas is 2021.
  8. Ed, I don't know what the problem is re: your Malwarebytes. The deep scan that Freeyellow performed identified two...and only two...problems. Both were files identified as Quiklink and were contained inside a Quiklink folder. The files were a redirect to Yahoo.com and evidently they weren't functioning because they did not activate when I did a test click on the link in my original post...the same one you used. In any event, both the files and the folder containing them were deleted and the site continued to function as designed. If anyone else has run into problems clicking on the posted link, I would appreciate knowing about it. If it isn't reported to me, I can't do anything about it. As for the problem you're having...since you are indicating interest in the CD...I would suggest two alternatives. One, open a separate browser window and type the actual URL, which is scalepublications.freeyellow.com/avhisref3.html OR if you are interested in purchasing that specific disc, send $15.95 (includes shipping) to me via PayPal, using the email address of tennexican@mindspring.com Hope some of this helps. Richard
  9. Hi All, Just want to notify everyone that Freeyellow found the redirect malware and I have deleted it.
  10. Thanks, Phil, for your recommendation. BTW, the revised version...which I don't recall if you've seen or not...has the image count up to 517.
  11. Ed, I've been in touch with Freeyellow (the host for my Scale Publications site). They found no malware alerts on the site and will be doing a deep scan as well. At this time there is no problem, so it appears Malwarebytes is being hypercareful. FYI, I went to the site again, using the link in this original post and had no problems. Richard
  12. Ed, That's weird. I just clicked on the link myself and it went directly to the page with no problems. Only thing I can think of is that your antivirus might be a little oversensitive. No two are exactly the same. In any event, I will contact Freeyellow tomorrow and advise them of what you ran into. Also, you might try it again in a few hours. I've also had the experience of being warned about a site one time and then no problem the next. Richard
  13. Robin, This Guide is now available in both epub and mobi (Kindle) formats from Smashwords. The URL to that site is https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/953586 All of my other Guides are also on Smashwords in both epub and mobi formats as well as Amazon in mobi format. Keep in mind that the entire focus of the book(let)...it's only 12 pages...is printing a PDF. Once you browse thru it, I'd appreciate you letting me know if there's other info you'd like to see included. I'll be glad to make the changes. And since I'm continuing to create new single subject How-To Guides, your opinion on other kit builds or specific information would be very welcome. Richard
  14. Just a quick note to let y'all know about my latest e-book in The Marmo Method Modelbuilding Guide series. This one is #9 and is titled From An E-Book To A Hard Copy (or How To Print A PDF). Most of us 'older' modelers actually prefer a publication we can hold in our hands and that's the whole purpose of this installment. Now you can save money on the e-book but print any part or all of it whenever you want to or need to. Anyway, you can find the full particulars here. Check it out and let me know what you think. BTW, it's only 99 cents.
  15. Was any decision made for 2022? Not that I'll be able to make any of them...and that includes Texas. Blast!
  16. Michael, you are correct. It is the end of an era and sad on multiple levels. I knew Ed jr and his father and met his mother a couple of times, though I never frequented the shop that often. There were plenty of other shops back then that were closer to me. Tolson's in particular. It's sad about the way Ed jr is ending, sad for the closing of yet another brick-and-mortar hobby shop and sad for the gradual shutdown of an era that many or most of us belong to.
  17. Hi all, I assume we've all heard about the forthcoming 1/48th P-38G/H from Tamiya. If y'all are looking for a slew of P-38 reference material in one place, including 517 photos, I would remind you of my Lockheed P-38 Photo Gallery CD-ROM. It even includes some 40 photos of the XP-58 Chain Lightning. You can get all the information here. Oh, yeah, shipping is included in the price.
  18. Ralph, Everything you say is true. But it's the transition period that kills you, particularly when you have to get almost all your paint by mail. Case in point, I needed one lousy bottle of Model Master Steel for a Cadillac Ambulance I'm building for both a client and a magazine article. No time to wait for mail order...never mind $9 shipping for a $4 bottle of paint. I needed it now. I found what I needed at a not so local Hobby Town and it was the ONLY bottle of the stuff they had. When it comes to my modelbuilding guides, I will have to incorporate a section in each of them discussing the changes in paint availability as well as where to find what they need. Do I need to carp about all of this? Well, yes and no. Yes because it directly affects me financially and timewise. And no because this is simply the way the free market works. If it doesn't sell or sell well enough, it doesn't survive. In other words, it's just business. But that doesn't keep our personal ox from being gored. How badly each of us is gored depends on our individual requirements. Where Model Master is concerned, the pertinent question now is just when the Model Master line in particular and Testors in general are no longer recognizable names. IMHO, MM will be lucky to make it to January 2020. As for Testors? They'll probably continue to stay around, but their focus will be on crafts and of virtually no interest to the serious modeler. Just my thoughts.
  19. I've used MM since it's inception as my go to paint for my business. Can't remember when they first created it, but I suspect some 40 years or so. Since I will have to switch to TruColor, my paint costs for commission work will probably double. As for what it will do to any ebooks I create....
  20. I mentioned this in my post today: the new Testors website on the Rustoleum site only lists 62 acryl colors while this list shows 76 being discontinued. Worse, at least some of the website colors are also on the discontinued list.
  21. In case you've been checking the Testors.com website and wondering why it hasn't been updated for God knows how long, here's why. The current Testors website is located on the Rustoleum website at https://www.rustoleum.ca/product-catalog/consumer-brands/testors/ and if you're still a user of Model Master Enamels, you aren't gonna like what you find. As of this moment, here's the categories that are listed for enamels and the number of colors available: Model Master Enamels Flat colors: 27 Gloss colors: 2 Semi-Gloss: 1 Figure Enamels. Believe it or not, they also lumped naval enamels under the figure enamels heading. Figure colors: 6 Naval colors: 4 International Military Enamels WW-II US & United Kingdom colors: 5 U.S. Military Colors: 7 WW-II Luftwaffe & Panzer colors: 11 WW-II Italian/Japanese/Russian colors: 3 Modern Armor/Gulf War/Russian colors: 2 Auto Enamels Automotive colors: 27 And if that isn't enough, there is one category of paint that is completely missing: Metalizer. Not only is Metalizer gone, so is Metalizer sealer, which is a perfect neutral clear coat that can be brushed over decals without having to spray the entire model. Things don't stop there either. Four days ago, Michael McMurtrey listed 76 acryl colors that were being discontinued. Today, the new testors website listed only 62 colors and some of those were also on the discontinued list. 22. Hate to tell you, Robin, but Squadron is no joy. It states "available to order', but when you try to add it to the cart, it states that the kit is out of stock.
  23. Does anyone have a Monogram AT-6 Texan kit they'd be willing to part with for not a lot of money? Need it for an article in a British magazine...which doesn't pay much. Later, it may wind up as one of my Modelbuilding Guides. Would be happy to mention your name as to how I found the kit. Why not use my own? Simple. I was burglarized a year and a half ago and didn't think they took more than a couple or three kits. Wrong! Went looking for the T-6 today and discovered an entire box...or maybe two...of classic Monogram kits missing!!! Anyway, any help would be appreciated.
  24. Beyond trying to keep myself breathing and functioning. I have a number of the old, square Testors paints that I brought with me when I moved to Fort Worth from El Paso in 1961. So they have to go back into the mid-50s. Believe it or not, the paint's still good!
  25. It appears that Pledge is continuing to change the name of what we have known as Future, with the latest being Pledge Revive It Floor Gloss Original. Anyone know if this stuff is the same as our old, reliable Future or Pledge Multisurface?
