Thanks Ed. It sounds like you're getting a good start on the armor side of things. You also seem to have the system down pat. I do thank you for this post too. I would not mind seeing any compliments about what you think looks good, and I'd be happy to answer any questions too, my extremely limited experience with 1/35th scale armor notwithstanding. I also would not have any problems with any of your observations about something that doesn't quite look right. What you see may be something I overlooked and I would be very appreciative of having it brought to my attention to fix or watch out for on the next project. Thanks again Ed. I look forward to seeing more of your work as well.

Thanks for the comment Dick, I appreciate it. I'm glad you stopped in to post. Thanks for the compliment Phil. I plan on just using the kit wheels. I know they are inaccurate, but I haven't the money to affor5d aftermarket wheels and so these are being built out of the box. Mine will also be done in a European three-tone camo pattern. Thanks again for the comments and I look forward to seeing yours done too.

I shoot Future 100% through my Iwata and then run straight water through it. No problems afterward. I have gone straight to painting with it after doing this. For my flat coat, I use a mix of 60-40 Future to Tamiya Flat Base. It makes it even duller. I've been doing this for more than six years and no real problems.

One More From The Duke In 2008
Mark Deliduka replied to Mark Deliduka's topic in Cars, Trucks, & Motorcycles
Thanks James! I agree. This was the first model that actually frightened me when I opened the box. I'm glad I overcame my fears because it is magnificent. We had a model display in the Buena Park Library awhile back and the local newspaper had taken pics of the models on display. One pic used on the front page announcing the display was my Christie fire truck. In the pic, it looked so realistic, one guy came down looking for the full-sized one! He was even more astounded when he saw the model. Thanks again for the great compliment! -
Hey, at least it'll be easier to rig than my 1/72 scale DH 2 was! Mine wasn't rigged accurately, but I got it rigged using 'invisible' nylon thread that was smaller than 2lb. test line. Feel free to check it out on my Thread posted below.

Thanks guys. Dick, I got three Shermans working and I gotta say Dragon makes the best Sherman kit out there in 1/72 scale. Thanks again for the compliment. Paul, I plan on making the Firefly all OD as that is the only color scheme offered in this kit. It has five or six decal options, almost all seem to be Polish tanks, although I believe one is for a British tank. I plan on using that decal set for it. Thanks again for the comments and compliments guys!

Well, it is the New Year and I might as well post the progress I've made on some of my projects since the New Year began. I'll start with the three Shermans I worked on at Hobby Day. One pic of the Sherman with wading stacks didn't come out so I omitted that photo. I do have one photo of all three together though. As mentioned before, these are all at the photo etch stage: 1/72 scale Dragon Sherman Ic: 1/72 scale Dragon M4A4: My apologies for the fuzzy pics. I didn't have a tripod at Hobby Day. Here are the three Shermans together: Later on the next day, I managed to get some more work done on some other models. I now have four Humvees at about the same stage of construction. These first ones are the two 1/72 scale Dragon Humvees in the Factory. One is the basic Humvee with TOW, the other one is the TOW Humvee with ASK armor on it: Next are the two 1/72 scale RevellAG Humvees. One is the TOW Humvee and the other is the ambulance: And finally, the last model is my Christmas gift from my friend Dave O'Barr. This is the 1/72 scale Academy Stryker that is almost ready for a basecoat of green: That is my progress I've made so far. I hope to have more progress posted for you later. Thanks for looking and comments are welcome.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE SCI-FI FILM OF ALL TIME?
Mark Deliduka replied to papasmurf's topic in Space, Sci-Fi & Fantasy
Good point Don. I always did wonder what the monoliths were, and I never really grasped the "sufficient technology is equivalent to being God" concept because when I saw the movie it was far too vague. Then again I was a youngster and I never read the book either. Still haven't. I do love following this discussion though. -

Thank you Ed. I am glad I was able to show all that is involved, particularly in this case. One reason I left the seam on the top of the boiler tank is because the reference photos a friend sent of the actual truck shows that the seam on the top part of the boiler tank is very prominent. But you are right. I did strip much of the chrome off of the rest of the parts and re-shot it all with Chrome Silver paint. That was tough. I did enjoy building this OOB, and wouldn't think of adding any other a/m details to it. I do have to add: this was the first model that ever frightened me when I opened the box, due to the number of parts inside the box! The only other kit to do that was Tamiya's 1/350 scale USS Enterprise. Thanks again for the wonderful comments. -

Sounds good. Here are the nine best pics showing my progress. This first one is the front radiator and chassis assembly. Here is the closeup of the engine: This is all the red parts after I painted them all gloss red. I figured it was the best way to do it. The engine and driver's seat all test fiott together on the forward chassis: Here it is with the main tank attached, waiting for all the extra details. Here is where I added the decals to the main frame. They would not be able to be put on later: Here it is: Driver's station installed and pumps and manifold are installed: Close up of the pumps and manifold: And finally here it was just before I put on the final detail parts, hose hangers and brass parts: After that, it was done. I hope these help. Enjoy. -
Thanks Von. I appreciate it. As for the Kingfisher, I wish I had. I only have the one and I got it for $2.00 at my club's Distressed Kit Auction. Thanks again for posting

Thanks guys! Glad you like it. Chuck, I'd say total building time was about three or four months, averaging 10-12 hours per week on it. I had set it aside for several months because it was getting a bit overwhelming. Then, on another Forums I frequent, someone started a "Just Finish It" Group Build wherein you took a partially assembled model that had been languishing on the bench for 6 months or more and "just finished it" by the end of that month. This way, I was able to get it done in January last year. The main issues are the cleanup of many parts, especially the chrome parts; and the decals. I had the original AMT boxing of this model and the AMT decals were quite difficult to put on. One recommendation I have: If there are indicators in a step that show that decals need to be put on, then put them on at the end of that assembly step! After the model is finished, quite a few decals will not be able to be put on because of all the other parts in the way if you wait. If you'd like, I still have many of my 'in-progress' photos and more photos of the finished model if you'd like to see them. I hope this helps. Thanks again for the compliments. -
Thanks Mike! I'm so glad you like them.

Thanks Mike! One thing that might help, is that when you take down a kit to look at it, read the instructions. Then try putting as couple of pieces together. Do this right away, and then if you're anything like me, you will just want to keep going. Before you know it, you've already gotten a lot more done than you thought. As for the models in the boxes, pull one down and look at it. The look at the instructions and see where you left off. Then try the next step. Eventually it'll get the juices flowing. Looking at others' work also helps motivate me, along with positive comments about my work. The more positive comments I get, the more motivated I am to build and the more I get built. I didn't getmuch this past year; that's partially why I only finished 45 models instead of my usual 65-70. Mike, thanks again for your great comments.

My Last Model For 2008... Number 45 For Me!
Mark Deliduka replied to Mark Deliduka's topic in Aircraft
Thanks guys! I truly appreciate the great comments! I am so glad you like this one; I am quite proud of it, especially considering how small it is! Keith, I rigged this with some very fine, clear 'invisible thread' stolen from the wife's sewing table. It is smaller than 2 lb test fishing line and just as clear. I had to paint it all black to get it to show up. Gil, thanks. Although I kind of feel bad; I usually average about 65-70 models built a year. I hit too many slumps this past year to reach my usual average.
