  1. I hear Krylon Crystal Clear used a lot but I have yet to try it. I should get off the pot.
  2. It is coming along nicely. Those Pro-tech parts are nice but I always cringe at the price and I'm one who is not shy about throwing $200 at a hi-tech kit. A few less of those and you could fit that Model Factory Hiro DBR easily in the budget. Keep it comin'
  3. a little progress. I put some heat stain on the exhaust even though it wont be seen in the end. Got the Hobby Design upgrade parts in and WOW. This is one of four disk brakes. each is 22 PE and turned alum bits with separate callipers. Thanks for looking
  4. Nice. White looks great. I'll have to give scalefinishes a try.
  5. Nice start and some advanced techniques in play right away. I'll check in often.
  6. Really a fantastic job. I love the dust over gloss weathering. Funny that many like the thing I liked the least. The flattened tires... Seems a little over done at least against at pure white background. ($.02 from a builder with perhaps 1/3 your tallent.) I am very glad you started posting here. Welcome
  7. Really nice effect on the tires. How to? If you have time
  8. Thought I would post a few pics as promised. The kit. Tamiya Fantastic ! The Chassis. The model factory hiro conversion I built previously had a one piece chassis plate in whie metal. I though that I would assemble the three chassis sections together in this build as well. It made a nice difference to be able to assemble the rest of car around a one piece foundation. There were no build conflicts from doing this in the FXX conversion, I don't expect any this time either. The Body: the nose section is assembled (6 pieces)...but so many more pieces. It is preped for paint. I scrubbed the gloss off the plastic with a tooth brush and some Comet cleanser after removing the most minimal of mold lines. I'm excited about Audi Grey. The engine. A little start. Alclad steel over gloss black. Kit chrome on the exhaust. Thanks for looking.
  9. You know on American Idol when they say 'You could sing the phone book..." Yea, it's kind of like that only related to building models.
  10. Well, I'll start this thread even though I have not taken any pics. My next project on tap is Tamiya's Enzo. I built this kit with the Model Factory Hiro FXX conversion a couple years ago. I could tell it was nice on its own. This go around I'll build it OOTB (mostly). While there will be those that hate it my color choice it Light Grey (ala Audi). As long as it comes out glass smooth it should be eye catching. Thanks for checking in. Pics coming soon...
  11. Thanks to all who have checked in and bigger thanks to those who comment She is done!!
  12. I hear what is being said and I as well do not add thinner or thinned paint back into the original bottle. It would be impossible to know what proportion paint to thinner was in there the next time you went to use it. I'm referring to a full on pre thinned (2 part thinner to 1 part paint) bottle separate from brushed paints for the sole purpose of being ready to airbrush. Only the two or three most common/heavily used color of course... The specialy paint suppliers like MCW and Cobra colors (when he was in business) both automotive model paint suppliers sell thier product pre-thinned, ready for airbrush. I was wondering if there were others using this technique on a home grown level. Seems I'm in the minority. That's cool. I was just curious.
  13. I have started this habit of keeping air brush ready enamels on hand. I have Testors flat & gloss black in 3 oz jars thinned with testors thinner. Also some pre thinned dull coat (more to bring gloss down to semi-gloss) As far as shelf life goes... the gloss black is the oldest on my bench at about 9 months with no sign of deteriation. So I was wondering if others keep pre-thinned paints ready for use on their bench. Is this practice is only effective with enamels?
  14. The paint did come out very smooth. Thanks. No polishing required. It is testors enamel. The little square bottles. I take a 3oz jar (badger airbrush) dump in the whole bottle then refill the paint bottle with testors thinner twice and add it to the big bottle. No substituting a cheaper thinner! Finally since this paint dries slowly I have a drying chamber that really make more difference than you might imagine. It is a small electric de-humidifier in the bottom of a cabinet. I posted a pic of the one I use here before. I use this black all the time for alclad chrome base so I always have a supply of pre thinned gloss black on hand but I follow the same formula for any gloss color coat when using testors enamel. They have given me my two best finishes in my collection. Both laid down like glass from the start and niether required polishing. NOTE TO SELF: stop trying other techniques and stick with what works.
  15. head & tail lights. Im kind of fretting over cutting the vac windows & headlight covers : |
  16. MAN 1/43 is small my eyes hurt. Body paint & decals. it should be done pretty soon. thanks for looking
  17. How about I buy the industrial roll .03 thick (mentioned in my previous post) and sell you a 4x7 sheet for 7$ ??? Any other takers??
  18. I have looked for this in the past and only found sources selling rolls that cost more than I would pay but available in a variety of thickness. lead foil Is it possible to use the self adhesive product that seems to be readily available and remove the adhesive with laquer thinner?
  19. I look forward to seeing this one through. No doubt it will be impressive. Thanks for always sharing
  20. Just a quick mock-up with the wheels to check ride height. The back seems to squat. I'll have to sort that out.
  21. I have made some progress on the interior, cleaned up the body and assembled the wheels. Thanks for looking.
  22. So here is my latest project. I've got an itch for 1/43 a while ago so I'm scratching it with this nice little kit from Renaissance (France) This car is from the 24 hours of Lemans '97. The kit is mostly resin: body, chassis & interior bits. It has brass & nickel PE, some white metal and turned aluminum parts for a fairly detailed build in this scale.
