untilCome and see some of the best modelers in the state and their work. This will be a standard 1,2,3 scale model contest. Instead of the IPMS SLC club contest held every other year, we are moving to a statewide contest that involves all of the clubs and organizations in the area. Everyone is welcome. Location is at the Western Sports Park in Farmington UT. If you know the area, this is across the highway from Lagoon. So go enjoy some 'Frightmares' after the event. More details can be found at https://ipmsslc.org/contest-info/ Date: Saturday, October 10, 2026. Time: 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Location: Western Sports Park, Bldg. 4 151 S1100 W Farmington, Utah 84025 Clubs involved: IPMS/SLC, NUSM, UMAG This is a new venue that will have more room for vendors, etc. and with an emphasis on encouraging modelers from the entire state of Utah and beyond to participate, the venue is more central to both IPMS/Salt Lake City and Northen Utah Scale Modelers. In addition to the contest modelers will have a chance to visit Dick Engar’s Scale Model Museum on Friday night October 9 at 535 East 500 South in Bountiful, not far from the contest venue, where an auction will take please consisting of various unbuilt kits, particularly in 1/48 scale thanks to a recent donation. You can have dinner on your own and convene at the museum at 7:00pm. We will also have Vendor Tables available in the venue and these are available first come first serve at a very economical price: $30.00 per table if paid prior to September 1. Money talks, which means no table will be reserved for anyone until we have the money in hand. After Sept. 1 the fee will be $35.00 per table. We will have more room so prospective vendors can pay for more than one table at the same rate if they wish. Great job on a beautiful bird!! VERY unique paint scheme there! Some Hobbycraft kits are pretty good and the F8F is one of them. I was glad Academy re-boxed them.

My latest update on this P-47 project… I’ve added more weathering such as exhaust and gunpowder stains, dirt stains onto the tires and areas on the airframe that would get such stains kicked up by the tires… I also glued the navigation, ID, and landing light in place, removed the canopy masking… and added a bit of bare metal wear in appropriate areas… Just about done now… got a busy next few days ahead with family stuff, so it will hopefully be wrapped up by the end of the weekend. -
Beautiful F8F build! 👍🏼👍🏼 The Hobbycraft Bearcats are real gems of a kit. You showed how beautifully they can turn out.

I'm getting close to completing the Young Frankenstein series with Inspector Kemp. He represents the Lionel Atwill character of Inspector Keoh. For YF, the Inspector is played by Kenneth Mars. For the kit the likeness is excellent as with the rest of the models. The bust comes in 3 parts - the bust, base and arm. It also comes with some darts and a dart board to replicate the humorous scene. The first step is actually- what colors am I using? I was able to find a colorized version of the movie that shows him in a black hat and a very dark blue uniform. The ornaments on the hat are gold, but silver on the jacket. My first go round with paint (before I found the images) had him in blue with blue. But you'll at some point the hat changes to black. I also jumped back into an old Citadel shade for a base flesh color, and a first highlight. That's where I'll leave him for today. Check back. Thanks for looking. Moving on I started adding color to all his ornaments and such. First step was to mask off the sleeve to to put the silver bands on. Nice and easy until I took the masking off - then tragedy! The problem here is that I had to mix that dark blue color. Let's see how much paint I have to waste to get that color back. Yes, a wet palette should have been used. 😕 Taking a break from the good I turned my attention to the base. I suddenly remembered the old way model railroaders used to do their mountains just putting wash blobs of color all over until things blend. Right down my alley, and it didn't come out bad. After that I start with the darts. On that colorized version I'm guessing they had or saw what antique darts looked like. so I mimicked that. I also painted the dartboard, but since it's a pretty large accessory, I'm deciding to leave it out of the display. Doing a double check I was happy enough to call it done. Thanks for looking.

During the latter part of World War 2, as it lost its iron grip on the skies, Germany began to rely more and more on antiaircraft guns and weapons as its first line of defense against marauding Allied aircraft. What this meant in practical terms is that they had to range far and wide to find suitable vehicles to create mobile mounts for all sorts of weaponry, putting them on virtually anything that could move and handle the weight. The non-profit UK based group known as the Great War Aviation Society publishes their journal, Cross & Cockade International, four times a year. Issues are available in English as printed [Softbound, A4 (8.27” x 11.69”), 80 pages plus a centerfold, as well as digital copies (or both). A new magazine, Contact!, is now available in both print and digital download. Society also provides a free newsletter (sign up on their website) and occasionally publish WWI themed books like the Sopwith Dolphin monograph, which I reviewed earlier for the IPMS-USA. This UK Journal is the sister of the US Journal, Over The Front. The Great War Aviation Society also hosts a lecture series available through Zoom.
