  2. I agree with the above comments and also mention that those numbers you got are because you never advertised this Forums as a place to go and socialize with fellow IPMS members and share your work! All those numbers show is that the organization did not care enough for it's members to advertise and push this Forums so others like me could share our work and socialize with friends in the organization. Now that you are shutting this down; you're shutting down my opportunity to stay in touch with friends like Gil, Kevin, Gary and others who frequent these boards here and aren't on any other Forums. Sure I could see them at as Nationals but at this rate with all the Nationals only going to the east and central part of the country, I'm cut off from ever attending another one so that is an option that is also eliminated. For those who wish to stay in touch; I've posted three links to the best Forums I frequent and would love it if you could join me there on at least one of them. Otherwise; it was nice knowing you and given the lack of west coast Nationals for the foreseeable future; it might be time to reconsider my membership here since I won't ever have any more access to my friends here anymore. Not that I have any status or importance to this organization, but I still value the friendships and camaraderie of this organization that I will soon be losing through the loss of these Forums.

  4. Before it’s too late, I want to thank Eric Aitala for his skillful and even handed oversight of the Forum for so long. It has been an important and useful and easy to navigate sight for our membership. Significantly, you have maintained order and civility- to a degree not often seen on the Internet. Well done! Respectfully and gratefully, Nick Filippone.

  12. I guess we should all leave the Internet then! That thing is a REAL mess!
  13. It is, but FB in general has serious issues in terms of general content / AU slop, privacy and such... E
  14. Actually, the IPMS/USA Facebook page is very well managed, thanks to Eugenie Ray and her team. It's a good place to interact around IPMS things.
  15. Ah the unregulated mess that is FB.... I dont bother. And I created the Page and Group. E
  16. IPMS-USA banter and pix forum activity is alive and well on FaceBook....!
  17. Bottom Line Up Front: Building a Gunpla is for sure out of my lane. For those that don’t know, Gunpla is the kit, and Gundam refers to one of many TV shows. In other words, Gundam is animated Gunpla. This is the second Gunpla I have built. The first was a simple small kit for an in house model contest for my local club. Gundam Barbatos is a much more complex build. Having said that, assembly was straight forward as long as the instructions are followed closely. It turns into a nice kit, if you make a mistake, like I did, it is easy to recover from since no glue is involved. It is a fun build that doesn’t really take that much time to finish. Highly recommended for Gunpla modelers or for those modelers looking to try something different. For those looking for an enjoyable build, this is a good option. Highly recommended. 23. I'll stand by my comment..... true, your service to our country shows a willingness to put yourself at physical risk, and that is in no way cowardly. However, there's also intellectual courage which is sometimes just as hard (just ask the ONE juror in the murder case in Mass.) and I believe the Eboard showed NO intellectual courage, and in fact CHOSE to bypass any chance for negative feedback by not telling the membership about the decision at the IPMSUSA business meeting in Ft. Wayne, so I will call the decision cowardly at the very least. If you're offended..... so be it! I guess you can always kick me off this forum if you feel the need. Gil H. #10803

  26. Much of the recriminations could have been avoided by the simple expedient of informing the membership up front and ahead of time. One person’s “ legacy application “ is another’s familiar comfort zone. The march of time and technology is apparently inexorable, but that is not an excuse for leadership insensitivity. Nick Filippone
  27. A few members have commented unfavorably about our decision to move away from the Forums section of the website. A few of these posts have been personal attacks on members of the Board. White I don't mind being criticized for decisions made by this Board, calling out Board members as cowards is offensive and totally inappropriate, particularly as several Board members are former military who put themselves in harms' way in actual combat situations to serve this country. That being said, I accept the responsibility for not bringing up the fact that this decision had been made during our annual Business Meeting open to the membership who attended the Fort Wayne National Convention. Rather than being part of some grand conspiracy, it did not make the agenda - I will take the hit for that. Lest anyone think that there is some grand conspiracy at work here to silence people, we asked Webmaster Eric Aiitala to run some analytics on forum usage, and the chart below paints a very clear picture of why the vote went in that direction: Forum usage is limited to an extremely small subset of our overall membership. At its highest level during this year-long period, the forums were used by a maximum of 19 people on two particular days during that year - that's 0.37% of our membership, on a peak day. The core decision for IPMS/USA is that the forum is a legacy application that does not serve the purpose we need, and takes cycles and money to upgrade. We would rather have our staff focus on more valuable and relevant objectives, particularly for the larger core of our membership. This doesn't mean there won't be a future member only forum, but the current technology is not something we want to continue with, and this will free up resources and man hours to find a more suitable solution. A reminder that our IPMS/USA Facebook page, monitored by a volunteer staff, is available to all. John Noack President, IPMS/USA
  28. I have several links to some amazing forums that I frequent. while they aren't IPMS specific, these are Forums much like this one where great work is shown, they feature many magnificent models from great Masters as well as mediocre modelers like me and are exceptionally welcome to all SPAM aka Scale Plastic Aircraft Modelers: https://www.spamodeler.com/forum/index.php?sid=19d010bd8d9bbfbe4285a22f7ef271b9 Don't let the name fool you; they welcome all genres of modeling. It's a smaller, yet more homelike Forum that welcomes all. Modeler's Social Club: https://modelerssocialclub.proboards.com/forum This is a very down to earth and friendly Forum with some incredible masters among them. And this one, Modeler's Haven Online: https://mho.freeforums.net/ This is a very active Forum with strong participation from many European modelers who have tremendous skills. Very friendly and welcoming. These are my top three recommendations for the best Forums to frequent. I may not be the most popular, well known or talented modeler in IPMS; and many here might not even know me, but those who do and wish to continue to follow my work, take my tours and keep up with my productivity; you can find me on all three of those Forums. I post on them quite frequently. I do hope that those of you who want to continue using a Forums will come join up at least one of these. When you sign up; tell them the Duke sent you!
  29. All these look fantastic! I'm glad I got to see them.
