The 1/48 Clear Prop F-86A is finished! This is a good kit with decent fit and plenty of detailing compared to most every other 1/48 Saberjet kit. Most importantly, it's the first true 1/48 "A" model Saberjet with the V windscreen, smaller elevator-fuselage shoulders, and a slatted early Saberjet wing that will make accuracy nuts happy since there are no slat wells. On the down side, it is much more fiddly to build, especially the landing gear, as compared to other F-86 kits. One more note on this build.... I drilled out the kit's closed gun ports since I was unwilling to wait until a later release that included them or buy the alternate aftermarket parts available. The markings for Eagleston's Saberjet are from an old Cutting Edge sheet that I was still able to order from Dave Klaus on his website. I also painted all of the black/white 4thFG ID stripes.

I finally have a "modern" state-of-the-art" slat-winged early Korean War Saberjet to go with the 1/48 F-86A I built about 40yrs ago by kit-bashing the old Lindberg F-86A windscreen and rear fuselage; Monogram F-86F front fuselage, speed brake wells, and tail fin; and Entex/Marusan F-86D early Saberjet slatted wing.

Didn't someone just release a Sabre A?  If so, the universal rule of kits applies -- "As soon as you scratch/modify/jigger a venerable kit to create a modeling miracle, somebody will release a version that contains all modern quality and accruacy."  As my buddy, who did a magical job on a U-2.

Beautiful F-86 Gil. Looks like a bit less effort than the past. Nice to see progress from the manufacturers.

Cheers

Bill
