VMF211 Posted September 14, 2024 Report Posted September 14, 2024 FINALLY!!!! Had this one as a little kid. My dad built it for me back in 68 or 69ish? Anyway, always wanted to build one but no way am I paying collector prices for it. THANK YOU ATLANTIS!!!!! https://atlantis-models.com/preorder-uss-bainbridge-1-600-atlantis-aurora/
Ron Bell Posted September 14, 2024 Report Posted September 14, 2024 They and Monogram did models of ships of that era that no one else did. I/600 is a good scale as there are many after market accessories available. Here's an old Monogram ship kit of that era to show that they can be made up into nice models. 4
Mark Deliduka Posted September 25, 2024 Report Posted September 25, 2024 Magnificent work Ron! I also agree about 1/600 being a good scale for ships. They are small enough not to take up much space; yet big enough to see and/or add details that are difficult on a 1/700 scale ship. I am so looking forward to getting that Bainbridge! 1
VMF211 Posted September 26, 2024 Author Report Posted September 26, 2024 Pre ordered mine a few days ago! Now I gotta get some etched rails for it. Does anyone make 1/600 3"-50s????
Ron Bell Posted September 26, 2024 Report Posted September 26, 2024 Tom's Model Works does the rails. https://www.tomsmodelworks.com/catalog/index.php For the guns, I would have suggested Shapeways but they went belly up recently. I checked Model Monkey and they have some stuff in 1/600 but not 3" guns. Maybe spend some time on Google looking for 3d printed parts or even on some ship modeling sites message forums. 1
VMF211 Posted September 27, 2024 Author Report Posted September 27, 2024 Yep, been looking as I really don't think I can scratch those.
