VonL
LT Chuck Childs was the pilot in command of a lead crew of 96th BS, 2nd BG, 15th AF. He recently published a memoir "35 Missions Through Hell" that provided all sorts of useful details to make the model accurate. Their crew also flew hair-raising 'special ops' missions known as 'Lone Wolf.' Chuck later flew in the Berlin Airlift and is currently president of that reunion org. Chuck and his wife Grace are shown below receiving the model at the Black Hills Veterans' Writing Group: http://battlestory.org More detail on Chuck's story there. The 1/48 Monogram B-17G was refurbished from a beautiful build by Mr. Tom Berger. Mods included a Paragon H2X radar, Koster Cheyenne tail turret and markings comprised of home made decals and hand painted unit/formation markings. What an honor to present this one. VonL
Thanx for the kind words, gents! I was kinda proud of the weathering effects under and around the engines...just enough crud. Wish that showed better in the pix.
