I had a set of circa late 1980s Medallion Resins for the Monogram 262 that I was about to chunk of but decided to save them for this effort. The inboard slat was okay as is, but he two outboard ones had to be lengthened to fit this kit. Made 'em fit, by golly!! The two outboard slats took time to make look more like an airfoil, instead of a glob of resin. With a razor saw, plastic and CA, you can accomplish most any update. Added cockpit and main gear wheel well detail, vacuformed a new canopy, which I masked with Tamiya Yellow tape. The Tamiya tape was OK but I liked the 3M Painter's Blue tape better. No residue to clean up!! Used some filler on seams, probably shoulda used more, and painted exterior with Testor's acrylic, RLM 81, 83 over 76. Getting the leading edge slants on took most of my time, the rest was very straight forward and fun!! Again, if ya want try some new technique and don't wanna trash a high dollar Tamigawa/Trump kit, this IS the one for you!! And if your experiment is successful, you'll have a very good shelf sitter that ONLY your IPMS modeler buddies would know the difference!! IPMS, this is a no-brainer for Make and Take!! Bo Roberts

If I were to guess, and that's exactly what it is, I'd say they are chemically EXACTLY the same. Now the pigment and formula of pigments may be different, that is, RLM 02 may be different colors or shades of color. If I were to guess. Bo Roberts

Hey Steve, Looking good. The Civilian versions had Hi Skid gear where as the OH-6 didn't. Cant' tell, have reduce the skid gear?? Got a Buddy that flew in VN. I can send you a couple pix, if you wanna. Bo Roberts

Well, remember these kits are E-Z Snapz and many serious model really want Tamiya/Hasegawa/Revell-Monogram to make one, me too. But the guys working on Pegasus' line know their stuff and I'm thinking they'll get it right!! It will be the basis for any modeler to strut their stuff and make a keeper. The 109E will be a -4. Their next scheduled release is a Bf-109E with BOB markings. Followed by, in no particular order; P-51D, P-47D Razorback and Bubble Top, and F4U-1 Corsair. Later in 2010 will come the P-40B/C in AVG markings!! If their coming kits are anything like their recent ones, they'll be very good!! I'm expecting the P-40B/C to be the best on the market!! Buy some of these kits and give them to kids to start their interest in modeling. At $10 retail, we all can afford some of these for an investment in future generation of modelers. You may want to keep a few and build them for yourself and practice new techniques that you wouldn't want to test on a $40+ kit!! BTW, these snap kits fit like a dream and the water slide decals are EXCELLENT. Cockpit detail is amazing. Bo Roberts

And to accentuate them with dark wash makes 'em even more gaudy!! I remember one very well done Monogram F-105 finished in the aluminum lacquer scheme that looked like a Tennessee road map when compared to a provided photo of the same real a/c at about the same scale distance!! It did look good, but unreal!! Bo Roberts

You nailed it; it impresses judges. And I might add does look good!! Kinda like looking at a heavy retouch of a picture of me, looks good but don't resemble the original ..... at all!! LOL!! Our Hueys had raised rivet on the tail boom and when the crew wiped the jet exhaust off of it, it did have the effect of 'preshading'. But only on the tailboom and vertical fin. Oh well, it's a hobby and I DO try to make my models look like active flyable aircraft and NOT one that's been in the junk yard for years!! Aircraft ain't tanks!! Bo Roberts

Finally got mine last week. These kits should be alot of fun. 23 parts total and will look very good when complete. Priced such that it won't break the bank just to build one and test new techniques! In the hands of accomplished modelers, one would be hard pressed to tell the Fw190 and Zero from Tamiya's when viewed from 3 or 4 feet away!! 'Course, they don't have smaller detailed parts as do their more expensive counterparts. So one will be raiding the parts box. Bo Roberts

These 48th E-Z Snapz kits are supposed to be on the shelves now. Their previous releases are pretty nice for snap kits. Some time and effort and they're little gems. Great for 'Make and Take' for sure. Bo Roberts

Does anybody know if these 48th scale metal replacement gear correct the splay of the Airfix kit gear??? Bo Roberts

Thanks one and all for your comments. The resin bits were a real pain, especially the trolley. You had to get four pieces aligned/test fitted BEFORE using CA!! I like plastic. And Tamiya will release one of these this year!! LOL!! Bo Roberts

Uh, beats me!! I just thought built kits I saw looked too puggy around the nose. I really intended to add more, but stopped there. I personally think it improved the sleek look of this beauty. Bo

Glenn, I used three different shades of black and even a black metal on the nose. Final sheen was obtained by shooting clear flat acrylic and buffing it to a sheen when dry. Bo
