adfogel Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Okay, here we have the old Monogram SBD Dauntless. I used leftover Hasegawa decals and the Hasegawa spinner for the prop. The dive flaps were drilled out and the bomb release trigger hole filled in. Lee
adfogel Posted March 4, 2010 Author Report Posted March 4, 2010 Next up is the much maligned (and rightfully so) Italeri Reggiane RE 2002. OOB and boy was it some work. The entire nose, cowling and bomb rack are molded askew and there is no real way to fix it IMHO. So, I just dealt with it. I feel very, very sorry for anyone who paid list for this...thankfully I got mine on the cheap. Lee
adfogel Posted March 4, 2010 Author Report Posted March 4, 2010 Thirdly we have the Pro Modeler Fw 190D-11. Straight OOB. I always wanted to build all of the Jv44 'Doras' and I figured now is as good a time as any to start! Lee
adfogel Posted March 4, 2010 Author Report Posted March 4, 2010 Here we have Eduard's Fw 190A-8/R2 'Profi-pack" kit. I added engine details, cut the cowlings and added details there as well. The rest is all Eduard. I really like these kits but they are particular to assemble...and it was not easy. Lee
adfogel Posted March 4, 2010 Author Report Posted March 4, 2010 (edited) This is a pair of Bf 109G-6s. White 3 is the Fujimi kit (of which I am a BIG fan) with the older Eduard PE set which I highly recommend for these kits. I knocked the inner flaps off while taking these pics...I'm such a klutz! Decals are kit-supplied. White 9 is the old Otaki kit with leftover Fujimi decals and Hasegawa stencils. Lee Edited March 4, 2010 by adfogel
adfogel Posted March 4, 2010 Author Report Posted March 4, 2010 Adn to wrap things up we have the 1/48 Tamiya Ki-46 Dinah with the Eduard PE set. This was a real pain of a build...took me nearly 12 years! I would work on it a bit and then just get so disgusted with it...swore me off from ever wanting to build a 2nd kit and I really like the Dinah! So, I have an old UPC 1/50 scale Dinah that I will build and hopefully it will be a much more pleasant experience. Lee
ghodges Posted March 5, 2010 Report Posted March 5, 2010 Well, this isn't the first time I've been blamed for things on this forum.....and also not the first time I'm PROUD to take the blame! Nice body of work Lee! As a fan of "moldy plastic" I can appreciate the work you put into many of them. I too love the old Otaki kits! They allow you to put something attractive on the shelf with minimal effort in a short amount of time. Thanks for posting the pics! GIL
adfogel Posted March 5, 2010 Author Report Posted March 5, 2010 Thanks for the kudos, Gil! I agree that most of the Otaki kits can stuill build up nicely and look the part (the Zero and P-51D are the iffy pair IMHO). Plus it was neat to build the two '109s side by side and see the differences both in molding quality and parts layout. Later, Lee
TimHortman Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 Thanks for sharing Lee - Nice work! Sorry to hear about your Ki-46 experience. I don't think the one I built gave me too much trouble, but it was quite a few years ago. (but I personally don't think you'll find the old UPC kit easier than the Tamiya!)
adfogel Posted March 7, 2010 Author Report Posted March 7, 2010 Thanks for sharing Lee - Nice work! Sorry to hear about your Ki-46 experience. I don't think the one I built gave me too much trouble, but it was quite a few years ago. (but I personally don't think you'll find the old UPC kit easier than the Tamiya!) Oh, I am quite sure that the UPC kit will be a bit of a challenge. I think that had I not added the flaps and such that it would have gone a bit smoother. Still, the canopies and windows had some iffy fit quality compared to what I am used to from Tamiya. I think I just lost my interest/inspiration to complete it for so long that I saw it as a chore to wrap up. I am glad that I did though. Thanks for the compliment and post up a pic or two of your Dinah...I'd love to see it! Later, Lee
adfogel Posted March 11, 2010 Author Report Posted March 11, 2010 Thanks, Charles for the kind words. It's funny...I never realized exactly how many '109s I had until I counted them on my spreadsheet. Apparently I am a BIG '109 nut and just did not know it! I've always been a huge fan for the older Fujimi series over the later Hasegawa series. I realize that I am in the very minor minority on this but oh well...I'll leave the "nitty gritty" to the Experten. I'm just a flunky. Later, Lee
ghodges Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 If you're talking about the 70's issue Fujimi 1/48 BF-109G, the one with the decal sheet that's as big as the box, then I'm with ya! There may be technically better kits available now, but that kit was IT when it came out, and the decals were better than anything ever seen before. I still remember how stunned I was when a friend opened his box for me! I still have a couple of remnants of those decal sheets too! Cheers! GIL
