JohnRatzenberger Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 like when you were a kid .... In this case, we were having a Matchbox / Ted Taylor Tribute GB on UAMF and I decided to do the Victor K-2 tanker, which Ted did the instructions for. Well, what's a tanker without something to fuel-up ? Enter a Matchbox Lightning and 2 Revell non-Matchbox repops, some after market decals, hooks and fishing line ... And we have a RAF demo at an air show ....
ghodges Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 VERY cool display John! Do the refueling hoses tend to keep them in formation and prevent yawing? GIL
JohnRatzenberger Posted October 7, 2013 Author Report Posted October 7, 2013 Thanks, Gil ...A picture is worth a thousand words, or in this case, one NO .... I did some adjusting of hooks and lines until SWMBO informed me I was one hole shy of redoing the ceiling ....Part of the issue is the light weight of the models -- the refueling lines put slight pressure on the left side of the Lightnings and cause them to twist .... I have it angled such that people entering the room can be suitably impressed but then aren't allowed any further :)
Mark Deliduka Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 Nicely done! I did something similar when I hung up my KC-135. I put it slightly above and in front of my B-52D so that when the angle is right, it looks like they are refueling in midair as well. Then the air conditioner turns on and they start swaying back and forth ruining the illusion... Great idea John, I love it!
Mark Ford Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 John,Way Cool!!!! Brings back memories from my teenage years.....I had the Air War (WW II) over Europe in 1/72 hanging from my bedroom ceiling. Something like 30 models :blu-plane: .Mark

Having flown tanker and receiver refueling in the KC-135, trust me, the swaying back and forth only adds to the realism!
