The reason why the awards ceremony was missed by many was due to the timing of the slides that ran during the banquet. I agree that they went too fast and that is the reason why the major awards ceremony started early. The slide show should be slowed down by doubling/tripling the time each slide is on the screen. Does anyone have a list of the winners from the 1997 National convention in Columbus? TIA

All. I have a very serious question...what category would I place my 1/72 scale AVROcar VZ-9 in?

And what exactly are the Theme awards? All it does is divide what ever it is up by date!?

I am asking because it did not state if the convention decal was a special category or not!

As stated in the rules the theme awards will be stand alone categories. What about the "The Past Presidents’ Award for Best Use of a National Convention Decal" award? will this be a stand alone category or will it be selected from all the other categories?

The last Biplane I built was the classic Hasegawa 1:32nd scale Curtis BF2C-1 as a young teenager back in the '70's! This Airfix kit is so well engineered. All the struts are molded into the proper angles and the outer struts were jigged by the X shaped sprue in between the struts. You remove them after you glue the wings together!. All the rigging holes are marked. I just had to drilled out (I used a #86 drill bit). I have had a lot of outstanding modelers here in the club that were a great inspiration to me to give it a try!

Clarence.... The rivets are just as they come in the kit. I just had to redo a few along the mating edges. I use Tamiya Extra Thin cement. What seams that needed puttying were done with Tamiya Basic grey putty. All seam work was then over painted with Surfacer 1000 to seal them. Interestingly the light at the base of the fin was a kit clear part but I instead put a drop of epoxy in it. It then sagged and formed the reflector and thus was painted chrome silver. I then just had to add another drop of epoxy too level it. The model was painted in Testors Model master ADC Grey and coated with Tamiya Semi-gloss clear and the panel lines were given a wash of artist oils thinned with Turpenoid! After that drys you just take a table napkin moistened in Turpenoid and just wipe off the excess! Scott

Tamiya 1:72nd scale Mosquito NF Mk. 30 Night Fighter., 416th Night Fighter Squadron, Twelfth Air Force, Pisa, Italy, Nov. 1944 It sports an Aries resin cockpit (modified for the AI Mk X/SCR720 radar system) and 20mm gun bay, Pavla two stage Merlin nacelles and Paragon exhaust shrouds. White Ensign Colorcoat paint with Barracudacals and Superscale decals. ......Command and Service Module) found that the SM assembly sequence to be screwed up? They do not tell you the (correct) orientation of part E8 and part C5 will not fit as it is designed. If you plan on installing the CM you must insert it (part C5) inverted with the center post up. and it wont fit as it is designed with out removing the tab, for which they don't tell you about! I installed part E8 upside down ans it would not let you install part E1 due to the notches in the end of the part. Install it with the punch out marks facing outwards! If you install part C5 as per directions you must install it on top of part E$ that shows a non-existent notch for the tab on the bottom of part C5. But this gives you no definitive alignment for attaching the CM. There is a hole in the heat shield of the CM that aligns with a post on the "back side" of part C5. But they don't show you that in the instructions! OK Rant mode off.......

Okay, I finally found someone who figured out the opening sequence. He said that it showed the aliens as the creators of the human race. It was indicated by the DNA splitting and dispersing in the water. I never would have got that. Rusty....the engineer taking the poisin was the out going leader of their race. he is expected to take his own life. Hence the quote by Charlize in the movie when she confronts her father..."A ruler has his reign and then he dies....". The substance he drank was a WMD that was designed to eliminated thier race as a way to hide thier existance and evidence of their presence. After he drank the liquid as you saw his DNA mixed in the water and produced the Human race. In the movie Prometheus the ship where they found the Engineer pilot on, was on a mission to carpet bomb Earth with the "poison" to eradicate what was deemed by the Engineers and a horrendus mistake and had to "fix". Only the WMD they developed escaped and decimated the outpost where they were developing the weapon.

I know this is old but there will be two more prequal-sequals to "Prometheus" The next film is due out in 2014-15 and continues on with Shaw's trip to the Engineer planet and what happens there. The third and final sequal will be a direct tie in between Shaws visit and Alien and the whole backstory on how the Engineer ship happened to land on LV426. All this hinges on Whether Ridley Scott deems the series good enough to continue, this also based on the profitability of continuing on with the franchise.

Hi Gentlemen I have read this thread with great interest as a car modeler, Nationals judge and someone that has been involved the running of 3 national conventions, and various other regional and local shows. So for a little background for those that do not know me or are familiar with my work. I have been building models since around 1965and I build the three "A's" Aircraft, Armor and Automotive. Over the years I have strengthened my skills by not concentrating on one genre. I apply basic construction rules to everything I build. I know many a modeler has asked me how I can build anything I want and they generally do well at IPMS. NNL and car shows. I tell them I do not get locked into one mindset when approaching a project. I feel that this is the case with most car modelers when attending an IPMS show. When we did the '2008 show I approached the local car club (Tidewater Automotive Modelers Society or TAMS) and asked for their input as to what they would like to see as far as categories. We brainstormed and wound up using the categories that they used with their show along with some of the categories from the area NNL shows. Things like "a NASCAR, Heavy and light Commercial, Curbside/Slam to name a few. We had an overwhelming response with the number of cars that were entered at the show. I also understand that the cost (for a national) show was exorbitant for most to attend. Most of the car modelers I know do not have a large budget for their hobby so joining IPMS (if just for the chance to be allowed to enter) and paying for the show itself is cost prohibitive for most. As for Judging, I have been grabbed at the door of many a show to be either a head judge or category judge. And most know I am willing to judge any subject. And yes I have been to a few shows where we only had three to five car judges and that made thing a bit tiring. Most of the apathy stems from the fact that most modelers would rather judge their buddies models lest he have his buddy judge his. So most will just opt out. Granted Car modelers are a different breed when it comes to build quality. Most will build 15-20 cars a year and be happy that they increased the finished model count in their collection. I understand that as most of us have more unbuilt models than built up stuff! I have judged a show or two where it came down to who finished the underside of the hood. We walked down the line and flipped the hood of every model on the table. Only 1 in 20 probably removed the punch out marks under the hood or even attempted to paint it! I plan on working with National and our planning committee for the 2014 show to make the car categories more palatable for us car modelers. I think if we pattern it close to NNL categories it would be more workable. I know I am rambling a bit but I wholeheartedly agree with what is being lined out in this thread and would like to see things changed for the better.

IPMS Tidewater in Hapmton VA has won the bid for the 2014 National Convention. It will be held at the Hampton Roads Convention center.
