Making models in the barracks - Virginia
Circuitrider replied to TJNavyAG's topic in Welcome to the Forum!
Thanks TJ. To the collective hivemind who may stumble upon this post (I may cross-post this dependent upon reaction), let's put our heads together and see if we can come up with some creative ways to help this young man practically, and within regs, stow his model building gear!! Submit what ideas you have and let TJ tell us if it'll work. -
Making models in the barracks - Virginia
Circuitrider replied to TJNavyAG's topic in Welcome to the Forum!
Hey TJ! Welcome! We are glad to have you. You asked about storage...what are your barracks room space limitations? In other words, where do you stow your stuff? -
Glad to have you, Eugene! Congrats on the retirement! I've got about 8 years until I pull the pin...not that I'm counting or anything. Welcome!

Welcome Chris! Honored to have you join us!

Yep...what Ron said. I'm glad because my original was 666. No, not really. 😀

Welcome aboard, George!

Hey Jeff! Welcome! Gil hit it on the head. Historically correct markings are allowed as I interpret the rules (click above in the header >Browse >Guidelines). And, yes, you may post your own website! Dive in! Glad to have you aboard!

Amongst all of the comments made, this one sentence may be the most cogent, well-thought-out, and reasonable relating to the issue at hand. Kudos.

Quoting from my response to this same issue a few weeks back: "Googling IPMS reveals the following - Integrated Physicians Management Services; Iowa Podiatric Medical Society; Integrated Personnel Management Systems; Integrated Platform Management Systems; International Property Measurement Standards...I could go on... Similarly, our brothers and sisters over at AMPS deal with the same issue. Google "AMPS" and see how many different things pop up. As this world gets smaller the more we will come to realize that the book of Ecclesiastes is correct when it says, '...there is nothing new under the sun.'" So there's another journal that goes by "IUJ"...so what? So should we demand that we stop using IPMS because there are other entities that use the same acronym? Should we begin to complain and castigate the EB for having the temerity to continue to allow the International Plastic Modelers' Society to be known as the (gasp!) IPMS??? Good grief, folks...come on! If you hate the new journal and the changes (including the name), that's fine, but this particular line of reasoning is moot.
-
There are also other entities, phenomena, ailments, etc. named: IPMS, PMS, AMPS, CA, PVA, PS,...and on and on... Not berating or being argumentative for the sake being argumentative...I guess I just don't understand your point.
-
Ron, To which logo are you referring? The Journal, as far as I am aware, is a publication limited in distribution to the paying members of the the IPMS only. I feel that the official logo of the IPMS, which is generally the most publicly visible and is also visible on the cover of the most recent journal, does an excellent job of representing the organization. Tweaking is needed as stated, ad nauseum, by those who control such things as is their open and frequent solicitation of input for tweaks for the journal at a widely published email address reserved specifically for that purpose. For those latching on to the "IUJ" moniker: Googling IPMS reveals the following - Integrated Physicians Management Services; Iowa Podiatric Medical Society; Integrated Personnel Management Systems; Integrated Platform Management Systems; International Property Measurement Standards...I could go on... Similarly, our brothers and sisters over at AMPS deal with the same issue. Google "AMPS" and see how many different things pop up. From the IPMS FB page: For everyone that is still receiving the IPMS/USA Journal: We're getting multiple posts about the color of the text, the layout, the readability - so instead of posting multiple posts about the same issues - we just want to re-post the official response posted by Ro Annis, Publications Director of the journal earlier this week: "Hello All. I am the Publications Director of the IPMS/USA Journal. The lighter gray text was a design decision we made while putting the new magazine together. I didn't realize that this would make it so hard to read and once I got my copy I realized that we will need to change this going forward (even my wife had a few choice words for me regarding this). Ultimately, this is my responsibility. I have set up a separate email address (iujfeedback@ipmsusa.org) where you can direct your constructive feedback. The new team worked hard to get this issue completed in order to get back on schedule. At this moment we are assembling the Nats winner's issue."

NEW Journal Format-Print difficult to read

Question Resulting from Reading 2023 Financial Statement
Circuitrider replied to Highlander's topic in Ask the IPMS/USA
If you aren't already familiar with it, the info below might be helpful regarding financial inquiries. While many might find it advisable to have an E-Board member monitor to the forum, I don't see it recorded anywhere as a requirement. Hope this helps! 🤣😂🤣 Indeed!

😄 I will admit to knowing only a few of those, but yes! My realm was relegated more to the trauma, critical care, SCI, TBI, and CVA types. Understood about the type/name.
-
Lol! Understood. Worked as a medical professional for many years, a realm with an incredible, but often necessarily incessant need for acronyms. But still...the irony in this case... I've seen at least one response that mocked the "IUJ" name as a contraceptive-like. 😁

Just got my copy of the new Journal and must say that, with the exception of the light typeface (which has been addressed by those who control such things) and delay, I like it. I like the layout, the look, and what I consider to be a more linear presentation. It looks more like what I pick up when I grab a publicly available model magazine at the bookstore. One member’s opinion. I also find it wildly ironic that we who belong to an organization known by the initials IPMS, would dig deeply enough to find a professional urology journal with the same initials as the new journal and take exception. For those who don’t get my reference, PMS is a widely used acronym that refers to Premenstrual Syndrome. Glass houses and all…

I'll take a stab at this from my limited knowledge... It could be but, as has been alluded to previously, the issue has less to do with function and more to do with workload when that verification criteria is applied to a wildly popular social media platform like FB. Yes, the membership of IPMS is a finite number but spammers aren't going to stop their attempts to access the platform just because it is "closed". I'll readily admit, however, that this would probably be more adequately addressed by one of the FB mods.
-
They can and some do, but most don't. However, it would still necessitate an specific, individual inquiry to ensure membership and that the membership is current and has not lapsed.
-
...further, and so on... I am, and have been (quite ineptly, and with much help from Eric Aitala and a great group of moderators) the Forum Administrator for the past few years and can tell you that this is correct info. Not only are there few participants, there are few people (and a WHOLE lot of spammers) seeking to join, and I have to evaluate each request with an inquiry into the membership database. I don't mind it at all and enjoy helping in some small way. But, if the scope was increased to encompass a popular social media platform, this is a task that could quickly become daunting and dare I say almost impossible for someone with a fulltime job.
