OK, time for a "stimulus package", as with the flurry of recently deceased, top notch, authors, this film stared one of the "Great Ones" in acting, who "passed on" recently. Broke my heart to hear of this, the good ones are dropping like flies............yes Mike, that was a clue................ -
EARLY PEEK AT UPCOMING STAR TREK VOYAGER PROJECT!
papasmurf replied to papasmurf's topic in Space, Sci-Fi & Fantasy
I've used ultra thin, self-adhering foils, on certain interior blocking segments of a few projects Ed, I find them rather labor-intensive, and prefer airbrush applications for efficiency, and complete saturation, without the possibility of "missing" a spot. Also, in the long run, anything "glued" as a surface blocker, can become "unglued", especially if high voltage CCFLS and their Inverters, which produce heat, are involved. I have found that ACLAD metallics are quite good at light-blocking, although a tad expensive. Not knocking the technique, as it's quite good for blocking Laser light, which will go through most paint blocks (except thickened white), but it's not my "preferred" method. I think it boils down to what works "best" for you, and is a very "personal" choice. Costs, time, and lighting source, should be taken into account, when choosing which method will yield the desired results. It's nice to point out both these potential methods, for those considering techniques, on their first few lighted attempts. Oddly enough, I was eyeing a "Death Star" re-release kit, just last week, and considering building one up for the Studio, which has dozens of Ships hanging from the ceiling! The light blocking process also continues on the exterior, after a primer coat has been applied. Wisps of flat black airbrush sprays, over "spots" or "seams", are the "last touch" before starting primary color applications, once those corrections are covered with a second primer coat. There are other techniques as well, interior "compartments" or "chambers", focal housings, liquid & sprayable rubber compounds, all sorts of methods and products are available to builders these days! Thanks for sharing Ed, I'm sure some members, now have a better concept, on how this can be done, and the many methods to be considered. Good post! -
EARLY PEEK AT UPCOMING STAR TREK VOYAGER PROJECT!
papasmurf replied to papasmurf's topic in Space, Sci-Fi & Fantasy
Well golly!!! Thanks Ed! Yep, those light leaks are a major issue, ruins the illusion even if you got 99% of them fixed, tough to get them all. Takes time, and sitting in a dark room, with much patience and determination. I've started using night vision gear, to spot these, as the thermal/optical signature of even tiny leaks, are pronounced through this specialized vision gear. A good application of plastic friendly primer, 2 coats of black(flat), and a final silver or aluminium coat, all over the inside of Hull, and any lighted sections, will keep the "glowing" plastic away, and keep light intensified inside, where you want it. This applies to enamels, as I rarely use acrylics, which I find less durable, and versatile, in these types of builds. -

Now detailing interior, of the kit-supplied Windows, with Outer Space Outfitters back lit panel kit. This adds a nice touch of realism to the Voyager's overall presentation, and some dimensional augment for the viewer. I sell the kits at www.strangestuffstudio.com , on the Product Page, if you'd like to add this detail to your Voyager project. I don't recommend it for novices however, it's a bit tricky to get it all lined up correctly, and then later, to touch up some tiny light leaks that are going to need attention. -

Well, he is "kicking butt", I'll admit that, knows his movies darn well! But so do a few other players, so far........ And if any rule changes come along, they will apply to everyone. I wouln't penalize a good player, for showing talent in the game. Play nice Smurflings, or I'll feed you to something nasty............ "ANYONE ELSE WANT TO CHANGE RULES?" -

That's what I recall, had it checked, all good Mike. Dave mentioned something about a fourth guess, must have been referring to another player. It is a moot point, no worries. A "Usurper", was nearly devoured, to make my point on accuracy............hehehe ! -

Sounds "sort of", like some Robert Silverberg, loves "irony" in his books. Loved "The Seed(s) of Earth" by him, and although I read it over 30 years ago, it comes to mind here. Only remember that it "Hit Home", on the subject of "weirdness of potential reality". -

Sorry, missed this first time around Dave. Stats-keeper, was that Mike's fourth guess, in that round? I don't recall him making that many, please double-check, thanks! That would disqualify round, and no one gets points, hope not! -

Holy Toledo Dude!! Ok, let me address these...first off, it's filming time that causes the time spread on BSG episodes. Traditionally, filming occurs in the Fall and Winter months, Spring and Summer are "slow times" in the media biz. On the current status of the series, I don't know if it's really "Earth" or not, we'll have to wait and see......... When Arthur C. Clarke died, I felt your pain, so I understand that post completely..... I do watch some of the episodes you mention, of those shows, but Dr.Who is the best, in the set you mentioned, in my smurfy opinion. Torchwood is a bit bizarre, and not "tightly wound, a bit offbeat to me. Jack's "gay" side made me wretch.... Eureka has it's moments, but failed to grab me completely. Kind of "predictable", again, only my opinion. SG whatever, although a super run, for that long, has gotten "old hat", Atlantis as well. Haven't seen the new Indianna, but "Iron Man" was freakin' cool!!! Hope for more of that, from this new franchise!! -

Do yourself a favor, read Harlan Ellison's story, about a future, where specially equipped cars, battle it out on the highway with all sorts of weaponry, aptly called "Vroom"! You'll get a real "feel", in a "mental picture" sort of way, for the "Car Wars" concept! -

Our next image for our game players, no clues at this time. Could be a blockbuster, or an obscure film from another Country, you decide... -

YEAAAAAHHHH! MIKE ROCKS MY WORLD, YET AGAIN!! YES MIKE,"THE OMEGA MAN" IS ONE OF MY ALL TIME 10 BEST SF FLICKS!! AND YES, THE "REMAKE" STUNK, IN MY BOOK, NOT WORTHY AT ALL! Outstanding work as usual Mike, well done!!! Had a feeling either you, or Dave, was going to get it on that clue, not surprised at all!! OK, clues given, the obvious "grainy and low level color brilliance" of 70's stock film. Visual clues, the ornate room decorations, where Dr. Neville finds bodies, during his routine "hunts", for the "Mutants". Led by "Mathias", played so very well, by Anthony Zerbe, of "Deliverance" and "Cool Hand Luke" Fame!! Also, some of the Doc's "Utility Belt" was shown, a bit of features and those "Body Suits" he wore a lot. I'll whip up a new image, before end of day, busy in Studio right now!! Very well played, another one for the "Mikester"!! -

Pohl is an amazing talent!! I remember a very bizzare story, from a collection of his works, in which he wrote about God, being this huge "Alienesque" eyeball, so disturbing!! Nah, it's cool Mike, this thread is meant to be a bit "Gonzo", and unpredictable, nice tangent post!!!
