  1. I built this to give to my pastor who served as a maintenance officer with VA-105, the Gunslingers. I may add some "remove before flight" tags and add some wheel chocks later when I get it into final "presentation" form; but it's otherwise done. This was an extensive build that is chronicled up in the "Build" section of this Aircraft topic area if you're curious as to how much went into it, the problems that had to be surmounted, and any of the techniques used to do so and in building vacs. The squadron markings were home made since their are no VA-105 decals available in `1/32 for the A-7E (only the F-18 they now fly). The model has a lot of warts in it.... but hopefully he'll appreciate it for what it is, a gift to recognize his 20yrs of service. Questions, critiques, and comments welcome, as always! Gil

  2. So I was able to finish this up yesterday, AMT's boxing of the Otaki 70's vintage 1/48 P-51D. My original plan to use some Draw Decals markings for a Mustang features in "Empire of the Sun" was scuttled when the Draw Decals malfunctioned on me. So I used some Super Scale Decals from my stash combined with the Draw Decals personal markings. Aside from adding a decal IP and seat harness in the cockpit and replacing the kit's 1000 lb bombs with some 500 lb bombs from my spares bin, this kit was built OOB. I used primarily AK Real Colors and Tamiya lacquers for the main colors, with Humbrol and Model Master rounding out most of the rest. This was a pretty much trouble free build with only a bit of filler needed at the wing roots and on the bottom of the fuselage in the radiator area. The actual aircraft used in the movie... and my build with the mixed decals.... Thanks for looking... comments and critiques are welcome πŸ˜‰

  5. Have a couple photos of the actual aircraft from the Transient ramp at McConnell AFB in 1974. Decided to build model for my memory banks Fujimi A7E mostly out of box. Added wine lead for seatbelts and a rudimentary photo-etched Hud and some mirrors Microscope decals found last year (after long look time) Modified the tailplanes to reflect their motion capabilities and added brass rod thru fuselage to support them. Paints were all Gunze with GX 100 as the glossing coat Thanks for looking Comments always Welcome Cheers Bill D

  8. Thanks for the kid comments guys! Gil, this is my 4th Otaki base kit that I've built so far, and Id put it as one of their better efforts, at least among those four. I have at least that many more to go in my stash, so only time will tell in the end on that. πŸ˜‰ Paul, those photos are great! Thanks for them! I've seen P-51s at a few air shows, but unfortunately never got the chance to see this particular one.

  9. Osiris models are on demand 3D printed models of excellent quality. You can see the detail from the photos and they have some unique subjects as well. They do, however, have the striations on some of the flat surfaces from the printing process that would be relatively easy to remove, but a lot of detail would go with them that would need to be replaced so I opted to just leave them alone. To call them "kits" would be an overstatement. This one had only 9 parts, 10 if you count the extra launcher in travel mode. With all that said, here's the Humber Hornet with the first generation anti-tank missile, the Malkara. It was based on the Humber armored truck known as "the pig" which was used extensively during the Irish "Troubles". The Hornet was air dropable using six specially designed parachutes. It was used by airborne units and some armored units. The missile was not well liked as it took a lot of training for the operator to keep it on target, it was big and heavy and it was pretty slow to target which left the operator somewhat exposed. However, it did serve for 15 years before it was superseded by the Swingfire missile mounted on the Ferret armored car. You may notice in a few photos that the launcher is crooked. That's because it is not glued in place because I wanted it removable as you get a entire separate launcher and missiles in the travel position and I wanted to be able to swap them out. I just didn't check to see if it was straight until I saw the photos.
