nursemandie Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 Great pics, but I have an observation. That aircraft appears to have been retrofitted with a later version of the P&W R-2800. I believe F4U-1s were built with the earlier engine with a dome-shaped gearbox. This aircraft has the bolted-style gearbox engine used on the F8F Bearcat and F7F Tigercat.
