Pat,

Depends on the track. Dragon DS is glueable by superglue and the old tube glue. Most others, I believe still need to be melted together.

Oh, shucks! Somehow I was hoping one of our genius members had (finally) figured out a way to glue those vinly tracks. Melting is just SO old-school! LOL!

Kudos to Dragon for making styrene flexible like vinyl, yet retaining the ability to glue the track together. NIRVANA!

AND......they actually seem to absorb paint so it isn't sitting on top waiting to fleck off when they bend!!!

The Dragon DS track is great. Glueable and takes paint well. I have been able to glue vinyl trank once. Took forever to set up with suerglue (CS). When the indiviual link tracks came out I thought that this was years ahead for us armour modelers. Some are great and some stink period. Dragons magic track is nice, but a lot bit of a pian in the behind. When possible (which is mostly the case now) I use Fruil white metal tracks or the DS track if it come with the kit. I will still use vinyl track now and then. Let's face it, the tracks and running gear on armour models is what sets a great model apart from a ok one.

Well, I'm just a 1/72 scale armor modeler, but the glues I've used on those old school vinyl tracks are either Gorilla Glue, or that PVA glue this is used to fasten PVC piping together. Never had a problem. In fact, the tracks ended up breaking in other places beside the join because they were glued so strong.

I agree about Dragon tracks. They ROCK! I've found that Trumpeter's black vinyl tracks also hold well with old-style Testor's orange tube glue.

Duke,

Is PVA the same as PVC?

No, PVA is PolyVinyl Acetate. PVC is PolyVinyl Chloride. PVA is white glue. PVC is rigid plastic.

I use thin wire, about .004 inch, to sew vinyl tracks together. You can usually hide the 'stitch' behind armor or up under the fenders.

Warning on painting the vinyl tracks, I did an old Airfix Panther and used some equally old Fujimi tracks on it. ('cause the Airfix tracks were just horrible). I painted them with regular enamel and used some enamel washes on them. Now, about 10 years down the line, they are so brittle that a hard glance will break pieces off of them.

David,

Thanks....we use Weldon 725 and 721 at work to glue our PVC fitting together and I was wondering if PVA glue was the same. That helped out.
