Ron Bell Posted March 31 Report Posted March 31 Many denigrate Matchbox kits as overly simple and toylike. For the aircraft ones they add in overly done panel lines. However, there must have been a different sort of designer that worked on their biplane kits 'cause they are pretty nice. Well engineered, they go together easily and as the Brits say they "look the part". Maybe not the most detailed, but pleasing to the eye. Plus they did kits of subjects other companies wouldn't touch such as the Stranraer and Heyford and this one, the Siskin. It's OOTB and the rigging is stretched sprue. 1

Although I understand it to a degree, I think many "modern day" builders are missing out on one aspect of modeling when they ignore older kits like that while waiting on a "new tool" version. Oddly enough, the same compliment can be said about the Aurora 1/48 biplane designers when compared to their 1/48 WWII fighter models; the biplanes where MUCH better engineered and more accurate! Good to see you've lost none of your sprue stretching skills! Gil
Mark Deliduka Posted April 2 Report Posted April 2 Magnificent build Ron, I also love the old Matchbox kits! They are sorely underrated. You sure did a sensationally masterful job on this little bird. I love using stretched sprue for my rigging as well. Easy to use, and easy to glue in place.
